Sleeping in heavy armor

Advice

OK, this is something i keep coming up against as a factor in having a heavy armor character, with endurance I can sleep in medium, and thats great, but what about in heavy:
What easy ways are there to avoid fatigue and get a good night's sleep without taking off my armor? Please suggest only things available VERY early game. The only thing I can think of every time is to go Heart of the Fields Human and just shrug off the fatigue, but there has GOT to be other ways by now.

Are you talking too early game to have magic armor? I'm guessing so but if not then restful armor is what you want. Minimum 1000 gp to get +1 armor +4500 for restful = 5500 gp needed. Also makes you only need 2 hrs sleep per night, so your companions will appreciate you standing a lot of extra watches. ;)

I don't know of any earlier-game way to sleep in it, but the Shrug On feat will let you put heavy armor on as a single full-round action, which is pretty close to having it on already, though you'll lose a few points of AC.

Good luck!

Yeah, either 1st level, or as a feat or class feature that you can pick up shortly after. (within the first 4 levels)

The first level spell Bed of Iron solves this problem.

That's more like it, i knew there'd be something like that, can't believe such an available spell has never been used in my campaigns before.

Know of any ways I can pick up that spell on any class? I know there's quite a few feats and alternate traits that let you pick up odd 1st level spells usable once per day... Know of any that can grab this?

Buy wand, hand wand to spellcaster, have spellcaster cast it upon you. Alternately, buy wand, then UMD.

Well you're likely to have a wizard. Pay for it to be in his book. He can cast it on you then.

Any other thoughts on avoiding fatigue for sleeping in plate? Bed of Iron is cool, but I'd love to know if anyone can think of any more.

Endurance + Mithral Plate.
Mithral makes it Medium and Endurance allows you to sleep in Medium and Light without Fatigue.

Not exactly cheap but its a doable option.

Keep Watch is better than Bed of Iron (unless you're trying to effect a lot of people at low level). You can stay awake while you rest.

Unless your GM is big on having your party attacked at night a lot, just remove it. Because your party might appreciate it if you took it off and bathed.

Keep Watch doesn't work well because if you are attacked at night the spell is gone or must be cast again (losing a slot for the next day).

Cleric with comminity domain, paladin with fatigued mercy.

Off topic question: If i'm wearing heavy armor and thus fatigued every morning, and I take the hedonistic drawback and that tells me I wake up fatigued aswell - So im DEFINITELY waking up exhausted the next morning - Can I cancel the exhaustion with heart of the fields?

If two separate things each make you fatigued, you become exhausted. Heart of the fields will let you ignore one effect, so you'll still be fatigued by the other (but at least not exhausted).

You could take the armor off and have someone cast swift girding if needed.

Damn, sucks i can't just cure the exhausted :(

Another nice idea, thanks!

I'll second Swift Girding. You aren't likely to need this sort of thing very often. A potion or two of Swift Girding is probably all you'll need.

Lame cursed oracle level.

As noted, Swift Girding or Bed of Iron can counter sleeping issues in heavy armor. If worst comes to worst you can get a chain shirt and sleep in that until the spells or wands there of become available.

Some armor is better than none and 100 gold is not that much.

That's a really good idea.

I know several players who keep a chainshirt for sleeping, we call them "battlejammies." or rather their characters keep the chain shirts, I don't think any of my friends sleep in armor.

One option to consider might be to wear medium armor plus an armored kilt -- the combination counts as heavy armor. When you go to sleep, you remove the armored kilt (leaving you in medium armor that your Endurance feat lets you sleep in comfortably) and lose only one point of AC if you have to fight during the night.

Understandable, but I think the intent is to wear the good stuff. And ... yeah, ideally you want Endurance plus mithril armour, although other options exist.

And I like 'battlejammies'. I'm now tempted to introduce it to our group, if we're on the road, at least until I get that mithril breastplate.

Heh battle-jammies are awesome, and the armored kilt is kind of cool, though not something I'd likely use.

Looks like heart of the fields really is the best idea for guaranteed level 1 fatigue immunity from plate. I'll likely stick to this unless we have a caster that is kind enough to reserve bed of iron for me, mainly because the idea i'm building on is playing a battle-host occultist who is magically sealed inside his armor, and cant take it off. Otherwise i think i'd go the battle jammies route, not in half because i friggin' love the name.

Found a way any class can get: Believer’s Boon
"Benefit: When you take this feat, choose one domain granted by your deity. You can use the 1st-level domain ability that clerics of that domain can use a number of times or rounds per day, but you can use it only once per day or 1 round per day, whichever is appropriate."

Combine with Community Domain: Calming Touch.

It may cost a feat and require a bit of wisdom, but it's worth it to have freedom from being human.

Another way, albeit slightly worse/requiring familiar @ level 3:

Emissary Familiar, Domain Influence: Community Domain: Calming Touch.

There is the Comfort enchantment:

Quote:

Armor of comfort sheds dirt and sweat as they accumulate, and remains as comfortable as weather-appropriate clothing regardless of environmental conditions.

A suit of armor with this enhancement always looks immaculately clean, can be slept in as though it were light armor, and does not cause a penalty to the wearer’s saving throws to resist the effects of extreme heat. In cold weather, it counts as cold-weather clothing. In addition, the armor’s armor check penalty is reduced by 1 (to a minimum of 0).

It's 5000 gold, which isn't incredibly low level, but not too expensive either.
