The inability to trade between the two character in my account is very a big stumbling block

I think that the title say all.
Currently to trade between the two characters in my account I have to pass through a 3rd character owned by some other player.

That require:
1) to have a trusted player logged in at the right time
2) in the right location
3) to be able to log with the two character in a reasonably fast sequence (and more often than not when I re-log I get the message "log in failed")

Essentially you shackle 3 characters to the same location for a fairly long period.

I have just gathered some stuff in the Nothrern Craghorns with my adventuring character. My crafter is in Hammerfelll.
The best option would be to have him come to Golgotha, take the stuff, craft whatever he can locally to reduce his load and them move south with a full load of semi crafter items to finish them in Hammerfell or trade them to other settlement members.

Instead I am forced to have my fighter leave his heavy armor in Golgotha and run to Hammerfell, hoping to find the right player to trade his stuff to him, so that he, in turn can trade the interesting items to my crafting character.

Very inefficient as my crafting character will have the freeholder or expert armor skill to benefit for the increased carrying capacity and will have strong back slotted, while my fighter character will have the normal fighter feats slotted.
This way I am forced to train 2 different set of armor skills on my fighter and reconfigure him for traveling/transportation. Fairly annoying.

Agreed, fairly big issue. Right up there with the lack of a company bank and a terrible AH.

If you set up deals, Us Golgothains are Honorable... we may be evil but we are lawful evil :D. But for the right price, we will assist others. AND if we are in business together, we wont be attacking you on sight :D

The AH drives me nut, I've been standing outside the AH in Hammerfall for two days now, but everytime I think of log on I lose the interest as I should do the clickfeast to find out what I can buy to bring up north ....

Now I seriously thinking of giving up trading and just go around and kill mobs ...

Shared storage for companies, shared storage for characters on the same account, all locally off course.

Since you can only share stuff that has been stored in the same physical place in the gameworld, this should prevent any exploits, right?

Wait a second...

I could be KEEPING the stuff I hand to company crafters? ;-)

Seriously though...

I'm guessing this is mainly an issue for those with Destiny's Twin, because other players are far less likely to split XP between 2 characters on an account.

DTers already have a really nice bonus over other players.

You want the company to discourage multiple accounts from hundreds of thousands of (as yet imaginary) future players just to make DT more convenient?

I'm picturing a new in-store item Destiny's Chest.

Unless the original idea has been modified, it was expected to be able to pay to train multiple characters on the same account.

Then there is people that has machines that have trouble handling more than 1 account at a time (like my old machine).

And, last but not least, a mechanic that will allow us to trade with our other characters can be used to trade with the characters of players that aren't currently logged.

As Tyncale said, "Shared storage for companies". It will be very important. Today it all done by direct trade.
The "bank" player isn't logged? You can trade with your company, you can't withdraw the crafting materials or drop semi-finished products for other crafter or finished products for the non-crafting characters.

It is not a DT against the others thing. It is having a useful function i game.

Is your computer not powerful enough to load two game clients at the same time? That's how I do it.

For settlements or companies large enough to have someone on all the time, that is a viable work around. I am lucky to see another player within 15 hexes of my settlement. I am trying to stick with the guys I signed up to but lack of basic tools enabling very basic play is making it very hard. I don't have access to other players a large amount of the time I play. So that isn't a work around for anyone who isn't in a well populated area. Admittedly that isn't going to be many, but with the already substantial advantage of getting to play with others, very small settlements are further shafted by those few not being able to be effective in what they can do solo due to basic systems not being present or in such poor shape as to be unusable.

Well, I'm not particularly against a *LOCAL* mailbox where your friends and alts can be sent stuff, just so long as it remains *LOCAL*.

But NOT providing that convenience will tend to cut into a company's sales of additional accounts to people who *will* pay for that convenience.

Also there's some sort of base or camp in the store already that will allow people to have shared storage (though I don't know if that item is in game yet).

Attackers or sieges being able to shut down a settlement's mailbox (but definitely not non-trivially) might be something to consider at some point, also.

Was. I have brought a new machine. It was mostly a problem of the video card.

Cool. yeah I basically load the client twice on the same computer in windowed mode, and shrink the window sizes down so I can see both side by side, then I just click between the two and initiate trades between my two characters.

@Doc, the problem is that you can only login a single character from a given account right now, so folks with only one account can't get two characters in game at the same time to trade.

Clearly, community banking (within one account or company based) was not considered necessary for MVP.

I do not doubt that it is on a list of things to do, and perhaps it is even one of their short term goals.

I expect that Shared Storage would win any Crowdforging Poll right now...

Actually I'd still rather have a properly functioning AH. With 7 day listings and the ability to only show what is for sale.

Smallholding or Base Camp.

scroll down after opening the link.

structures

Do we really expect GW to make their store offered $50 and $200 structures less meaningful?

Like many things, yes it might attract/retain more players, but what about those who already dropped that cash on those structures?

The smallholding shared storage will be multiple characters and can be used in the wild. That is a very different thing from account or company storage in a given settlement. It has plenty of advantages to retain its value.

Smallholdings get located INSIDE THE RING ROAD of a settlement according to the article. And it can be a resurrection point.

Sounds settlement convenient to me.

In fact if they can be deployed today, I'll buy one. (I already have multiple accounts that trade between each other, but a smallholding would be a big thrill for my fellow #PFOcontent creators in Golgotha).

Goblin Squad Member

I think the main advantage of those is that the owner gets to set access rights on the storage, not the company/settlement leader.

Goblin Squad Member

Smallholdings can be placed in a settlement hex OR in a wilderness hex.

I think I have seen one in testing along one of the roads: my character was born in Ossian Crossing and while trekking to Hammerfall he found this ramshackle building along the road. It was not accessible.

Smallholdings may be located inside the settlement ring, if the settlement permits it. If they are inside the settlement hex, they will share banking with the settlement. That is not their only choice. they can be put in almost any hex on the map, possibly excepting monster home hexes and badlands.

ahh. That actually makes it MORE appealing. :-)

But can we deploy them TODAY?

Goblin Squad Member

No. They're not deployable yet.

Most recent word was availability about 30 days after EE start, so probably late January/Early February.

As I am in a settlement with an AH I just list stuff at a very high price - and hey if it sells I made a big profit :D

Eve style contracts would solve this problem ... just saying
