Help with an Inquisitor Duelist build

Advice

Hello folks. joining a game in which the world will be all good. In any case as one of the only evil people in the world, i would like to be able to be more versatile. One of my thoughts in this is a Inquisitor Duelist. I would play an elf, so I just want to know how feasible this is, and if there are any things I should take.

This would be my first time as an Inquisitor, so all advice possible would be great. Thank you

Do you mean the Duelist PrC? That would be a very bad idea for an Inquisitor, as you want to stay single class for your spells and class abilities to progress.

I would take a look at the sanctified slayer archetype for something that would have the flavor you are looking for without the trap of multiclassing.

The inquisitor is already one of the most versatile classes. Multiclassing is not going to add versatility, but rather weaken the character. There is nothing the duelist adds to the inquisitor that equals what you lose by multiclassing. Too many of the inquisitors class features are level dependent to make this a good idea. Also delaying getting greater bane or other inquisitor abilities is actually going to make you weaker. The thing that makes the inquisitor deadly is synergy. Individually the buffs don’t look that strong, but they almost always stack with each other. Judgments by themselves may not look strong, but add in spells and bane and they become very strong.

Don't you lose many things from many classes if you multiclass?
My thoughts were based on two judgements that I think are amazing, and with duelist, I would get more attacks.

The two judgements I was thinking:
Justice (+3)
Protection (+3)

Also would go with evil(demon) domain.

As for the duelist, I was planning on using parry and Riposte most of the time. Finally, most of what I like about the inquisitor comes before lvl 10.

With the justice judgement going my Base attack would be

+20/+15/+10/+5
at the end

Grab 1 level of Swashbuckler (inspired blade) and you basically get everything good there is to get from a duelist style class.

I'd even suggest just going the route of amateur swashbuckler.

Yeah, this. Doing this and going full-on Inquisitor otherwise would be my default advice for this build.

Demon domain, judgements, number of judgements In use at one time and more all scale with your inquisitor Levels. So my advice is a swashbuckler 1/Inquisitor 19 as well. Your simply gettin too many layered bonuses to too many things to justify more than a single level of multiclass.

What you lose for 1 extra attack is 10 caster levels, 5th and 6th level spells, stalwart, greater bane, and the extra bonuses from judgments. Your Reflex saves improve at the expense of your fortitude and will saves. Reflex saves are the least important save of the game so that is probably a bad trade. Your actual chance to hit actually goes down with the judgment of justice because you lose slayer which lets you treat it as if you were 5 levels higher.

I do get what you are saying. But the thing that makes Justice supper useful will put me one point higher than I would be. In addition, I wasnt looking on a big caster, and going swashbuckler doesn't seem like the character, based on backstory.

I am either going to go with and Inquisitor duelist or a Bard duelist. For two reasons really. First, I can't use the swashbuckler, as well my DM vetoed it, and it doesn't fit the character. Secondly, I love the RP for the Duelist, and knowing the people for the party, it is a good bet.

I am glad you did explain what I was missing out, I did miss Slayer while reading the Inquisitor description in the APG. I will be upset to lose that, and I am glad you pointed it out. i don't think I will miss greater bane all that much to be honest, but yes I will miss Stalwart.

I really Am not a fan of any of the judgements aside from Justice, healing, and Protection, they don't seem to call out. I will definitely miss the extra bonuses.

But you are probably all right. I'm using limited experience, having only played a cleric and a tank, and not much really in the PbP's. I am newer at D&D and Patfinder.

Once again. Thank you. Your advice is very helpful. Reading your comments did make me question the Idea. and did allow me to think of somethings. Thank you all

Monk duelist... U can use int and wis for ac. Siangham

As if you weren't MAD enough...

Forgo str get a agile siangham and its dex/int/wis with finesse.

From a game mechanics point you are giving up a lot of power for some minor advantages that can mostly be duplicated or exceeded by spells. Judgments are often situational but when the right situation comes up they are very useful. Since you can select whatever judgment you need this is actually a really good thing. Having an extra +3(+7 total) caster levels to penetrate spell resistance is very useful when trying to deal with high level creatures. Greater bane combined with judgment of destruction will mean on the average a bonus of +14 points of damage per hit, that multiply on a critical hit. Since you are losing your third judgment you could have justice, destruction and one other running. You also lose 3 judgments per day.

As long as you realize what you are giving up its all good. In the end this is your character, and as long as you are happy with it that is all that matters.
