Wow... 2015 Memorial Weekend.... Four days instead of three.
Looking forward to it. Any idea of the local as of yet?

Sovereign Court

Next year it's Memorial Day weekend?

Yep. That might mean I can't make it though. Working hospitality means that I don't often get my holidays or weekends off.

I'm really disappointed, because that makes it conflict with the *other* convention I always try to make: Wiscon.

Sovereign Court

Ah, this is excellent news. The 4th is always busy (as it is this year - hope ya'll are having a blast!) Memorial day will be much easier to swing.

Much better weekend for me, even though it now overlaps my birthday. :)

Better for me - avoiding family stuff on the 4th as well as birthday and wedding anniversary.

Excellent. Conflict with bi-annual family vacation banished.

I wish they would avoid holiday weekends all together.

Better for me as well.

When is memorial weekend (for us foreigners)?

Memorial Day is the last Monday in May.

Thanks, Joana.

That's much more promising actually - fits in better with when we tend to visit the US. :)

Also, information about new AP much sooner? :D

Same hotel?

No, Double Tree in Seatac.

Liberty's Edge

Sounds great! And let's not overlook the fact that next year will be 4 days!!!! That's awesome!!!

The advantage of holiday weekends is that more people will be able to hang through Monday what with work schedules and all.

Grand Lodge

So we're talkin' 21-24 May 2015?

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2008 Top 6, Contributor

Friday, May 22 - Monday May, 25th.

Yeah, this is a better weekend! I will have to miss Friday day due to work, but will be able to do the rest without juggling other engagements and travel ... So thanks!

Worse weekend for me- school is still in session and we can't use our personal days in May. This might also affect folks with kids either at home or bringing for the con.

I agree with a poster up thread that it would be nice to avoid holiday weekends, but I also understand that the holiday makes it easier for some to make it.

Sovereign Court

Just found out the business event we usually have at the start of June that could have posed an issue may very well be moving to August. Keep your fingers crossed for me ... I'll be putting in the time off tomorrow. :)

That's wierd. It's Friday through Monday? I thought it was Thursday through Sunday.

Liberty's Edge

Starfinder Superscriber

It's been Friday through Sunday. The new addition is the holiday Monday.

(The things happening on Thursday were not official PaizoCon events, but stuff that folks put together just because they knew they were going to be in town a day early.)

Scarab Sages

Now the question is when will the Paizo hotel booking code go live... :)

Cant wait for the next one :)

It'll be at least Thursday to Monday, maybe Tuesday to Tuesday with early arrival and post-con :)

Suggestion: Start slots at 10 am on Monday.

Something I've always appreciated are the 25 hour days at PaizoCon. Since Friday starts at 7am (registration), Saturday 8am (games), and Sunday 9am (games), every day seems just a bit stretched out, making sleep go a bit further every day.

Could also space the slots out slightly more (maybe skip or push out the Sunday night slot), Banquet could be at 8:00 pm or at least 7:30. The 4.5 hour crunch can be frustrating in the longer scenarios.

I second this inquiry as I wish to lock in my hotel ASAP.

I notice you can reserve rooms at a $109/$119 rate right now (bed dependent). If we get *better* than that for the PaizoCon that's pretty nice.

That is the "Easy Cancellation" selection.

Dark Archive

I called yesterday and they said the room rate had not been finalized.

I'm also guessing that the change is better for Paizo's schedule, since PaizoCon won't be almost back to back with Gen Con.

This may be true but my concern is that it is around the time the Paizo staff will have either finished or about to finish the GenCon grind to get products out and off to the printers. As much as I love PaizoCon I would like a happy Paizo staff as well. I wish them all the best of luck this coming year.

Good point - I think we will all have to step up and offer the best Con games we can come up with, so there's a bit less pressure on 'em.

Maybe they plan to lighten the schedule a bit so the Gen Con rush can be handled earlier... (*fingers crossed*)

This is exactly why I've volunteered to run events in 1-3 slots each year. Next year I might up the ante a bit, with the additional day.

Its an extra day in a bigger venue. I doubt the schedule will be *lighter* for Paizo staff ;)

I meant the publication schedule that time :)

Kassil - sorry we didn't get to hang out this year! You're definitely a credit to us all, and your games are exciting and fresh! I'm going to really try and step up to the plate next year and offer something unique!

The other alternate to that, would be to allow those who have prepurchased tickets (most of us) to print a badge/tickets.. and then pick up swag bag/etc in between sessions as the weekend goes on.

I found a not terribly friendly website which kept "helpfully" sending me off to different double tree hotels. :(

Is it this one?

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Seattle Airport
18740 International Boulevard, Seattle, Washington, 98188, USA

I'm 99% certain that it's the below one

google map equivalent which matches the address above. Certainly that's the closest Double Tree (but not the closest Hilton) to the airport.

99% is good enough for me. Thanks. :)

Yep, that's the one.

Just noticed that this is also the weekend that the horror convention Crypticon is down the road at the Airport Hilton.

I am new to PaizoCon where is it and how can i get more information about it ....

Hi Joseph!

PaizoCon is in Seattle, Washington. From 2008/9 to 2014 it has been held Fri-Sat on a weekend anywhere from mid-June to early July. For 2015 however it will be on Memorial Day weekend, as a four-day event.

The 2013 PaizoCon FAQ is available Here - not up to date at all, but rules and such should be the same. The hotel is changing to the Doubletree by Hilton on International Blvd (I think).

Lots of examples of the awesome things to do there can be found in the forums Here. There are a few threads like "Convince me!" or "What happens at PaizoCon?", but generally speaking you can:

  • Get in 'lottery' games with Paizo Staff, Contributors, and other super fans.
  • Play (or run!) Pathfinder Society games, or Adventure Card Games.
  • Attend seminars on various topics of interest (Secrets of Golarion, Auntie Lisa's Story Hour, etc.)
  • Hang out with other fans, staff, etc.
It's always a great friendly atmosphere, full of people who love Paizo, Pathfinder, and Playing awesome games.

Hope to see you there next year!

P.S. The actual PaizoCon announcement/page and such will probably be up in September-October (normally up in Nov-Dec but it's earlier next year, so hopefully more lead time).

I've been to PaizoCon twice, and will probably be going next year given the new dates.

It's definitely smaller than GenCon, and as you might expect, for the most part the games are Pathfinder (or more recently the adventure card game). On the other hand, if you want to meet Paizo staffers, they make a point of being super approachable. And if you like PFS, there is a large presence, and for the last few years they've run a test version of the upcoming GenCon special.

In short it's a nice supplement to GenCon, with the added bonus of being much more affordable. If Pathfinder is your thing, you won't be disappointed.

I didn't realize 2013 was still visible. I'm taking that down and getting a 2015 up instead. It won't be very heavily populated until after Gen Con, but it will at least have dates and location.

Scarab Sages

I have to assume that this is a better weekend overall for Paizo. Bigger venue, extra day, more time between PaizoCon and Gen Con. It makes sense overall.

But personally, it's more than a little frustrating as it conflicts with three large cons in the bay area, including KublaCon. It's going to be a real bummer for the local PFS crew.

How far is this new hotel from the SeaTac Marriott, where Paizocon has been previously held? I'm a Marriott rewards member, so I'm inclined to stay there rather than at the Doubletree if it's close enough?

Definitely smaller is an understatement. Gen Con's attendance is around 55,000+. Paizocon's attendance is, I'm guessing, somewhere between 800 - 1200.
