Maybe he has the same hidden motive as the Zoom from comics- this is his twisted version of trying to help the heroes, to get better at what they do. I always liked Zoom for that motive alone, and it might be a cool twist. This monster is the one I'm referring to. Unlikely, but cool.

He seems too murder-y for that though.

Zoom may have been sending out other metas to kill Barry simply to gauge how strong an opponent he was, before committing himself fully to battle.

Grey Lensman wrote:

Probably, after all she already has a different dad. Instead of being JEssy Chambers, she is Jessy Chambers Wells.

What if Zoom is the Black Racer?

Indeed. Zoom, so far, seems to very much have Savitar's attitude. Just without the speeded-up ninja flunkies.

Speed Demon! Man, that dude was whacked! I reread those early Wally issues not too long ago.

Good points all around. I may be giving the writers too much credit wrt clever plot twists.

Indeed. That's what I thought...

...right up until he manhandled Barry. And it doesn't explain why Jay is still alive. They stated he and Zoom had clashed many times. If Zoom is that much of a badass, Jay should not be alive.

Ok a synopsis for episode 1 of Legends of Today got released. Release date December 1.

This guy is slated to be Vandal Savage. He looks perfect for the role.

EDIT: HOLY S!@@. THAT GIRL CISCO HIT ON IS HAWK GIRL

Hammy, the link on Legends of Today suggests there's a serum for faster speed that gets tested on Jay. I'm guessing THAT'S what gives him back his speed. Could that also be the "speed formula" that empowers Jesse? I'd prefer it if it was a recited equation like the comics, but whatever.

To be fair, Wally was boinking his wife. I'm actually hoping some Velocity 9 and other early Wally stuff comes up in the show, maybe not season 2, but 3 or 4.

But yeah, Zoom feels like Savitar. Whether he is really Barry-2 or Henry-2 or Eddie doesn't matter.

So far, I don't think we have seen any character where both Earth and Earth-2 have gotten super powers. This lends me to think it is not Barry. Both Henry and Eddie seem like too obvious choices, so I'm guessing it is one of them.

Yeah, Wally could be kind of a dick in those early comics. I think he matured nicely, though, over the 20 or so years he was Flash. I still miss him.

And count me as another vote for Velocity 9. That would be cool. Although, at this point, I'd like to see a season 3 without a speedster as the main villain. Maybe Kadabra.

GRODD!!!!

Spoiler:
Good episode. We saw a lot more of Grodd, and he showed far more intelligence and power. I loved the red eyes - nice touch. I like the way they're evolving him. And that end, when they banished him to Gorilla City on Earth 2 - AWESOME!!! Although I would have rather seen the city on Earth 1, it was still nice to see something. Here's hoping they bring in Solovar.

I enjoyed seeing Henry again. I just hope they don't pull this too much, only seeing him when Barry needs a pep talk.

After hearing Joe's little speech to Iris about wondering how good a father he'd have been to an actual, blood-related son, and seeing her reaction - nice continued foreshadowing of Wally.

Alright Wells of Earth 2, you were less of a dick in this episode.

The bits between Kendra and Cisco were cool. Nice set up for the Legends of Tomorrow intro.

Cisco has gone from the character I disliked the most in the pilot to my now favorite. The dude is great!

And episodes with Henry are also always really excellent. I rather enjoyed his check up and analysis of Barry's x-rays.

Dal Selpher wrote:

The character definitely needed to evolve from his original, and now the actor is nailing it.

Scarab Sages

What I love about Cisco is that he could easily build an Iron Man / Atom level power suit to hero up himself, but he doesn't and instead helps others. Really looking forward to his Vipe powers growing too.

Liberty's Edge

What I love about Cisco is he isn't this.

Scarab Sages

Krensky wrote:

True. Although there is some resemblance between Carlos Valdes and that image. We'll see if he ever gets his own costume.

Liberty's Edge

Vibe in the comics is a reformed latino street gangster and breakdancer with vibrational powers and is basically one huge lazy racial stereotype.

No disagreement at all. I could still see the outfit showing up in some form as an in joke for those who know the comic version.

I think a Halloween party kinda like the Space Cowboy in Castle, would be appropriate.

Liberty's Edge

Well, they already subtly did some of that since the cold gun was supposed to be just in case and the comics Vibe can interfere with the Speed Force and that's why he's part of the contingency plan JLA.

I forgot to mention that this last episode also made me wonder if part of Zoom's power set is to instill lingering doubts and fear in people. Barry's flashes during his rehab and his fight with Grodd combined with his reluctance to get back in the fight reminded me of Jay, though to a lesser degree.

That's your standard PTSD. I mean Zoom DESTROYED Barry. Everyone would have flashes and doubts.

Indeed. Having another speedster's hand penetrate your flesh and do pretzel things to your spinal column would, I suspect, freak out most people.

Dang, poor Cisco just can't escape the friendzone.

Oh, and Jay to acting like a real jerk.

To be fair to Jay, I don't think a) he trust Harrison Wells and b) Speed Force is a part of the DCU. Chemical mixtures historically in DC...end up doing bad stuff to people. *cites Venom*

Good point. After all, Jay could have refused to help Wells, period.

Spiral,

I think the point is overuse of such chemicals in the DCU has proven to be...rather bad.

Jay becomes Zoom, time travels back in time to earth 2 in an insane attempt to stop himself by terrorizing his world while slowly loosing his sense of identity by battling his past self until the portal opens remembers that it's all Barry Flash's fault and round and a round we go.

That's just crazy!

It's Wally West of Earth-3! :)

I don’t normally watch (B)Arrow, but I enjoy these team-up episodes….

Spoiler:

I like Vandal Savage so far, but I’m fairly certain the history of the character was not intertwined with the Hawks. I’m hoping they’ll expand on him in the future – that he actually is an immortal Cro-Magnon, and the whole deal with the Hawks was just a way for him to gain more power.

I like the dude they got to play Hawkman.

Barry and Ollie fight well together.

It was nice to see Jay using super speed again, even if only for a little while. I can, however, understand his reluctance to trust Harrison Wells and some drug. Hell, for a minute there, his preaching about the Speed Force being some kind of gift made him sound like Max Mercury. And huzzah for future Velocity 9 stories!!!

I look forward to the second part tonight.

Ah yes, the original, and only (for me) Wally.

As long as they get someone cool to portray Wally West, I don't care if he's portrayed by a shaolin monk.

I enjoyed the team up episode a lot! Can't wait to see Arrow tonight!

Some old(er) DCU geek refresh my memory (I'm old, but I've never been an encyclopedia of knowledge on the history of the Comic-verse) :/

In my memory, I thought the 'Super Speed Formula' was an actual mathematical equation, (NOT a chemical formula) that, when spoken aloud, gave the speaker super-speed. (WAY back before 'Speed Force' became a thing) It was what gave the original 'Johnny Quick' his speed powers.

Even after the introduction of the Speed Force, I recall Wally-Flash getting it from Johhny and using it to gain more speed when he really needed it in one issue. (???)

I mean, I'm not mad or anything that they made it a chemical formula, it makes sense in the DCTVU, I'm just curious that I'm remembering it right.

???

I remembered seeing something about a speed formula and I found an entry on the Reverse-Flash wiki page.

The Jay Garrik Flash had a villain called the Rival; a fellow professor who developed a formula he called Velocity-9 that gave him temporary speed powers.

Johnny Quick did use the equation, but Jay Garrick's powers involved a hard water experiment.

We DO have one instance of a chemical formula working properly in the DC universe (comic, not TV) - Hourman.

Did anyone else notice last night?

They kept calling the formula 'Velocity -6'

But I could swear that when the camera lingered on the table, the beaker of formula was labeled 'Velocity 9'.

Or was I seeing things again?
(I always miss the episode, and have to watch it later at night on DVR, so I may have been tired & bleary eyed.) :)

They do have someone in mind already, but I can't recall the name. I do recall I was unfamiliar with the actor when I first heard of him in the role. That goes towards one of my few gripes about the CW - because their target audience seems to be...younger than me....I don't often recognize some of the young actors they get.

OK, so I did remember the equation right.

HAH! Take THAT old-timer's! (Erm,... Alzheimers,...) :P

HOURMAN! Yes! Him! That formula does/did work as intended. If only for short periods of time. (IE=HOURman) ;P

IIRC, he couldn't take it back to back either, he had to wait in between Miraclo pills. (Another hour I think?) Leading to interesting problems in the comics when his pill would wear off, but he still had bad guys to defeat.

There was a Speed Formula Equation used by Jonny and Jessie Quick. There was also what came to be known as Velocity 9 (and eventually Velocity 10), introduced in the Wally West Flash era as one of Vandal Savage's schemes. There was also Speed Demon and the Russian Speedsters (Red Trinity and Blue Trinity), who all gained their powers through various combinations of specialized steroids, cybernetic implants, special suits, and genetic tampering.

I have kids older than some of these actors.

Sad, but true. :/

I'm fine with using younger actors and not because it's a CW show or anything, but because if they can find talented actors who are younger they save money and can keep making these shows without blowing their whole budget on bigger names.
