Hi,
I'm fairly new to PFS (though I'm an old hand at gaming). There's something I don't follow.
The Chronicle Sheets for each scenario list the magic items that become available for purchase after you complete the scenario. But, it seems like you can buy any items you like as long as you have a) the gold and b) the fame to make the purchase (and you own the applicable rule source).
So what is the relevance of the items listed on Chronicle Sheets?
Thanks for any guidance.

You are allowed to buy items off the chronicle sheet without having the mormally required fame. Chronicle sheets will also sometimes list items that normally wouldn't be available at all, such as scrolls, potions, wands at higher than minimum caster level or wands with less than 50 charges.

The short answer is : You're right. The chronicle sheet loots are largely irrelevant. By the time you have the gold to afford an item you should have the requisite fame. Its kind of a joke at this point (you've failed so many faction missions you have to use chronicle sheet loot!) but they are getting better with more unique items and partially charged wands, and they've been pushing to make extra credit missions harderand bring it down to the expected 1.5 per mission rather than its current 1.9 per mission.

There is one useful thing which chronicles often have, especially for casters and that is partially charged wands. A fully charged level 2 wand is generally over 4000gp. That is a lot of cash. One with say 13 charges might only be 1300gp but have enough mojo in it that it will last you your entire career.

I had the pleasure to play Where Mammoth's dare not tread' last Saturday.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself (playing a Barbarian in that scenario was very entertaining).
When I received the Chronicle Sheet I noted what was on it. There was a Amulet of Natural Armor +1 listed.
In a 7-8 / 10-11 scenario.
For a long time Ive just nodded as similar threads have come and gone talking about this very subject, but I thought this time 'No.. this is ridiculous'.
What is the reason for putting an Amulet of Natural Armor +1 on a 7-11 Chronicle sheet? I cannot honestly think of a single reason why it should be on a sheet ( and im talking about these Tier levels here). The same goes for the Ring of Protection +1 and Amulet of Mighty Fists +1.
Now I would understand at lower levels (people might of been very nastily affected by lack of PP), but at 7-11 most of us have a swag of Fame. More than enough to purchase a Amulet of Natural Armor +1.
What the hell is going on?

Funny you should mention that example.
We just had 2 new players partake in a 7-11 scenario with pregens the other day. They decided at the end to apply the sheets to level 1 characters, rather than wait until level 7.
When we explained they'd have access to those items regardless of Fame, they were thrilled.

I totally understand and agree Matthew. There are even encounters where the only item listed is on the 6-7 tier of a 1-7 encounter. I do hope paizo does step up on making the item section better on the chronicle sheets. I have seen some awesome items pop up right when my pc had enough gold but under fame by 1. I would want better sheets or do away with fame in terms of purchase limit. Or redo fame to where you get special stuff like 10% off any magical item at 55 fame. Because fame becomes more ignored past a certain point.
Once you have a Ton of magical gear, upgrading it becomes more about gold totals and not fame totals. At level 10, I have enough fame to max out all my magic armor and stuff or their respected +5 but not the gold.
So fix the sheets and the fame.

Why? You'd pretty much have to throw all of your cash into it to afford it before you had the fame for it

Generally speaking if it's not Always Available, it ends up on the sheet.

Why not do away with Items on Chronicle sheets altogether? Or is that too controversial? Would it leave too much whitespace on the page?
The Fame system is the replacement system for putting items on a chronicle sheet for purchase. As a character gets more fame, they get access to more expensive items. More fame again, then so on. Locally , I have met very few (in fact Ill be honest, have me no) people who have ever bought an item from a Chronicle sheet. its almost like we drew from previously living Campaigns, added our own PP/Fame mechanic and just kept both going because by the time we realised , things had been established.
I bought a cheap CLW wand back when I first started (and didnt understand the buying with pp way of doing things).
Perhaps for Season 6, we could get rid of items on Chronicle sheets altogether.
I apologise for taking over the topic Supervillain, but something in me just snapped :)

Matthew: I have bought items off of chronicles, typically either partially charged wands or higher caster level wands or scrolls.
And, as mentioned, it is useful for someone using the chronicle on a newish PC.
BNW: 2000 is not that much, even at low levels, you can probably afford it before you have the 13 Fame needed to open it.
