The Best Energy for blasting?

Advice

Which of the four basic energy types* would you say is the best for blasting purposes? Assuming you were going to use one energy over the others for whatever reason, which would you choose and why?

*I don't include sonics, because it's obviously the best one, but sonic damage spells are extremely uncommon; I can think of two or three off the top of my head.

Acid, as it hurts regenerators, is often conjured so ignores some SR

I can see the benefits of that, but there also seems to be a shortage of acid dealing blasts when compared to the other elements. That would seem to limit it's usefulness.

Depends on how you're getting your acid - as a Sorceror, for instance, your bloodline may allow you to change the type of other spells. Or there's the metamagic feat that let's you do the same.

Fire has the best damaging spells but cold has the most that also contain a debuff, Acid is the least resisted of the types and Electricity has the best melee damage spell for the first half of the game, Shocking grasp. They all have their particular strengths and weaknesses.

Lots of people advocate a dip a level of Crossblooded Sorcerer to get +2 damage per die in their preferred element and then switch to Admixture Wizard to be able to switch that element easily. Elemental Metamagics to change the type of damage do not change the type of the spell, so the bonus to damage will stick if you change it via that route.

If the question is purely which damage type is least resisted, I would say acid. There are a lot of critters which are immune to cold, fire or electricity. Acid immunity is relatively uncommon.

Really? I didn't know about that aspect. It actually makes it a not so bad feat, considering the 3.5 version didn't cost anything.

depends on what else you plan to do with it.

Cold rhimed with waves oracle can mess people up.

Acid i find frequenly has creatures with 5 or 10 acid resist.

I believed that electricity was one of the least resisted energy.

If I had to sort energy in order of most resisted to least resisted, I would have said :
- Fire
- Cold
- Acid
- Electricity
- Sound
- (Force, not really an energy, but blast spells can use this)

You need to swap Electricity with Acid. All Demons are immune to Electricity. There are a lot more Demons than Daemons [immune to acid].

But there are a lot of creatures that resist Acid, and almost none that resist Electricity beside demons and archons.

If you really want an effective blaster, a wilder from Psionics Unleashed is perfect. The psionic energy powers allow you to swap energy types easily, too. The downside is that you may not do much BUT blast things.
