DM Patcher's Reclaiming the Stolen Lands OOC Thread (All parties)

Play-by-Post Discussion

1 to 50 of 219 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | next > last >>

Welcome to the OOC thread! Please report here, as there are many matters that need to be discussed.

First of all, I haven't separated you into groups yet. This is because I wasn't quite sure which party members would have the best interactions with one another, and which ones were alignment-compatible. This is relevant, as you will decide what alignment your village is - it gives you different bonuses.

Second: Here is a map of the Stolen Lands. When the groups have been decided, each group will have to decide where on this map their village is founded. We can decide through agreement, or a random roll, which group gets to pick first, second and third.

Third: I mentioned we will discuss the second trait to be chosen. The reason I asked you to hold this off is that I was considering some campaign-related traits - ones that could increase leadership score if given the appropriate leadership role, or something like "Noble Parents", which is similar to Rich Parents, except it gives you more BP to spend for the village. I haven't made any of these at the moment, however, but ideas are welcome.

Fourth, I will need your email or some suggestion on how to share documents and information, so you can get the updated Kingdom building rules that we will be using.

Fifth: There's the matter of "who is the village's ruler" this is a separate issue for each group, but it still warrants discussion.

There was more, but my brain decided to malfunction. I am tired and stressed.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them.

Male Goblin Rogue (KM) 1

Woot! Korvin is definitely going to be in the "A" team. So whomever wants to be in that team, please sign up. He will be reviewing applications with a focus on butt-kickery.

Our fortress of awesomeness will be located on the small island on the farthest west lake. It is here where we will establish an amazing city alongside the river and what appears to be a road that runs along it.

On a serious note: What do the different colors of the landscape represent - specifically the green and faded green? Also, is there anything else we should note about the area?

Perhaps there could be a trait called 'shrewd investor' that gives you a discount when trading in gold for BPs? For example, instead of costing 4,000 gold per BP it would cost less per BP bought at a time (like buying bulk);

BP Gold
1 3900 (100G Discount)
2 7500 (500G Discount)
3 11000 (1000G Discount)

Something like that maybe?

The green areas are hills. The faded green areas are plains. There's also forests, swamps and mountains - they should be easy to discern. I will put in resources dependent on where you place yourself - the map essentially shapes itself based on what locations you pick. This is mostly so you won't hate yourselves for picking the wrong spot.

An interesting trait idea.

Alrich is ready for adventure, I just have to fill in some info on the sheet.

email:

shanewilson113@yahoo.com

I'm liking to be in a village on the two part lake, the middle of the three main lakes. I think the river travel plus fish on the lake (food) could be very beneficial.

Any other ideas?

As a note, I was considering having Alrich pick up gunsmithing later on.

What the heck.

Alrich's game!

I didn't look closely enough at the map to see the river leading southward .

Too bad Alrich does not have a lot of healing. :(

Male Goblin Rogue (KM) 1

You don't need to heal if you don't get hit =). Plus it's all about using wands anyway - That is if our grubby neighbors don't buy up all the cure light wounds wands from the kobold salesman. What type of role were you looking to fill with Alrich?

The "A" Team Roster:
Korvin
Alrich

I can't think of a name for it, but Korvin would like to have a trait that boosts the brewery building's stats. Possibly giving a bonus to the economy? This would directly relate to his family's secret brewing recipes.

Male Sootscale Kobold Witch/1

We can have three groups. The humans - 5. The half-humans (1half-Orc, 4 half-elves). The inhumans (2 goblins, 3 kobolds).

Or the A team works for me.

Male Goblin Rogue (KM) 1

You are always welcome on the "A" team =) It's been a pleasure RPing with you in the other games we've been in.

The "A" Team Roster:
Korvin (Goblin Rogue)
Alrich (Half-Orc Oracle)
Msosth (Kobold Witch)

"A" Team just needs a beefy, meaty, melee type and one other of any type.

Irikar if you join me we can fight back-to-back and side-to-side in the same square and flank our enemies! Muahahaha.

I think Alrich would prefer to have some sort of trait to boost his score for a religious position: something such as "respect my (religious) authori-tie" based upon the air of spiritual power that surrounds him or perhaps a bonus to BP for religious buildings (he has already dug a cellar where he is placing some remains to put the dead to rest and is creating a holy site).

Question: Could I switch Alrich's 14 Con with his 10 Dex? Or, is it too late for such changes?

This half-orc isn't overly thrilled about being in a party with four half-elves. Of course, he isn't overly thrilled with being in a party full of nonhumans either. Come to think of it, I don't know if he is all cheers and smiles about too many things. :D

I guess the religious force that would bind our nation together...

Look at the world around you. Many have passed before you. Bury them but remember them. Use what they have left and taught you as a foundation to stand upon and build something lasting of your own.

Other than that: healer, negotiator, and occasional support to the rogue by using detect magic and ghost hand (telekinesis). Not real good in combat because I chose to bump Alrich's charisma for spell use.

Hey - how did we end up with the tall gangly magus? There is a perfectly good miniature wizard over there jumping up and down with his hand raised. That way I will only have to cure cricks in your necks from looking up at the half-orc.

I use Slumber Hex on the magus and drag him behind a bush until after the A Team has selected.

Male Goblin Rogue (KM) 1

But I need someone to flank with if the Inquisitor doesn't come along =(. Oooh, maybe the wizard can summon stuff! And he has a small kobold army with him... hrmmm.

So, A Team, I did some initial planning on the city itself and came up with a little something: The Castle . As you can see, the castle and heavily fortified city will be on the island while the rest of the town will be along the coast. The planned location is here: Location =D

I think we could really make use of the plains surrounding the lake with an island by fielding some cavalry. I don't mean cavalry with knights either. I mean dig up some Celtara advanced firearms and start our own production of them so we can field a wild west cavalry with sabers, rifles, and pistols!

Just a thought. Sorry about getting so carried away. :P

...and we could have the ancestral catacombs beneath the fort! (with respect to the fort on the island)

Have had a couple of trips through France in 2005 and 2007 (second one for the rugby world cup) and there is indeed lots to see :) Lots of Chateaus in the Loire, Paris has a plethora of impressive old buildings, and the Basque region and foothills of the Pyrenees have a lot of old Cathar fortresses such as Chateau Peyrepertuse and Carcassonne.

The alliance of Brevoy and the River Kingdoms ordered the deaths of her royal family 100 years ago and the order still stands. The young princess has managed to evade her would be assassins, so far, using her charm and spontaneous magic. Some say it is destiny that protects her and guides her and others say she is a spy for Brevoy, sent to infiltrate pro-Celtaran groups. Amongst those loyal to the return of Celtara, a prophecy has begun to spread that, one day, she will resurrect Celtara from its century-old grave in the Stolen Lands. One of the few remaining Celtarian nobles in the realm, Elise has taken the opportunity to join a settlement dedicated to restoring the past. While her family’s fortune has withered away, she still retains a wealth of knowledge about the lost mysteries of Celtara.

Personality: Sincere, caring, and understanding, she makes every effort to help those in need, but her past has made her guarded in revealing anything about her heritage. She believes that sometimes fighting is necessary, but she prefers that others do the fighting for her. Quite often she refers to how weak she is, illustrating that she poses no threat. While secretly she enjoys gaudy clothing and jewelry, she prefers to wear common clothing, helping to blend in with the locals and not draw unwanted attention.

C. Orlosky - NG Half-elf Sorcerer

Male Sootscale Kobold Witch/1

A-Team is starting to look like my Heart of Journey's campaign. There the party consists of an ogre, a goblin, a tiefling(abyssal), an Ulfen, and an elf.

Slowly piecing together Sarrack Fwin-esklav my itinerant Kobold salesman, ably assisted by Fwin his filigree Tian weasel.

At present he has the Cauldron hex, Scribe Scroll feat, ranks in Craft (Alchemy, Leatherworking, and Trapmaker), Profession (Peddlar), and Handle Animal (plus Perception and Survival so he doesn't get lost in his wanderings).

DM Patcher - I'm assuming Sarrack's initial shop inventory will be based off standard 1st level character wealth? (which would be 105gp)

I just woke up - 27 replies, go me.

Mark Sweetman:

I have never thought of how to run a shop-based character. 105 gp sounds low... you can have max for your level, since you need an inventory and such.

@THE A TEAM!: I will have to bar a village on the two-part island in the middle of the three lakes for plot-related reasons.

The mini-island works, though once you expand beyond village you have a bit of an issue since the island is hideously small. Buildings on water, or under water... or just bridges and the rest of the city on the mainland.

... well, that castle would have a natural moat.

DON'T HOARD ALL THE GOBLINS/KOBOLDS D: NUU (nah, joking)

@Msosth: I am hoping the groups will be diverse, truth be told. My soul would die a little inside if I had to deal with a single-race group.

@Irikar: I think I have lost your email. My apologies.

Kezzin:

As I mentioned in the recruitment topic, I'll rewrite the feat so it doesn't have the irritating level 1 requirement - also, so it'll be on-par with other Paizo-related products.

@Korvin: Thanks for the new NPC. I need to get those shoved in a document somewhere - if you have them in a document already, I would much enjoy if you could email them to me.

So, current groups look like this:

Group 1: THE A TEAM (find a better name dude hurr)
Korvin (Goblin Rogue)
Alrich (Half-Orc Oracle)
Msosth (Kobold Witch)

Adoring the racial diversity here.

Group 2: ???
Calavas (Half-Elf Sorcerer)

If you could draft up which alignment your village likely will be, that would be swell.

For the sake of completion, here is a list of all applicants (not including NPC-Mark Sweetman) and their status.

List of every character:

Characters in a draft group
Group 1 - the A team
Lukan Swane "Swaney" - Korvin (CG Goblin Rogue)
Tirion Jörðhár - Msosth the Grey (NG Kobold Witch)
The Thing from Beyond the Edge - Alrich (Half-Orc Oracle)

Group 2 - ???

Players who have reported for duty in thread
Balodek - Nimeon (LG Half-Elf Paladin)

I'll sign up for team Bravo, ideally I'd like to found a LG village but I want us to get our team together and chatting before we make that decision.

DM Patcher:
How about if we make that my second trait? - something like:
Inheritor: "Uncle Frik-tic was good-better trapper. He get many furs from fearsome stoats and badgers to sell in town-market. Then one day pick fight with bear and got kill-deaded. I always good-loved nephew so he leave me push-cart and moneys in dead-note. Fwin tell me run away from safe-home and make more moneys selling stinkies and burnies. Is nice life, me not even miss mom-dad anymores."
You start with a pushcart and an extra 100gp of self-made non-magical products for making lots-moneys.

Which would give me 100gp of non-magical alchemy, traps and leatherworking stuff; plus the 105 gp that I could use for a few potions, scrolls and some minor gear for Sarrack.

One final question, are you happy for me to use the self-made costs for the gear I choose?

Mark Sweetman:

I like the trait, though I think it should be a little better. Rich Parents, for instance, gives you 900 gold and is also a trait...

I love the idea behind it, I just also think mechanically it is a bit weak.

Also, go ahead with using self-made costs. It makes sense.

Nimeon and Kalaya, welcome!

I'm cool with a LG village, but agree with getting the whole gang together before making that decision.

As a side note, am I the only one slightly surprised that the Ruler leadership role is charisma only? To a degree, I get it, but can't help but think of guys like King Solomon, who ruled with his wisdom, or Conan, who basically beat his way to the top. It just seems odd that the ruler is the only role that has no variety in what stat runs it, while everyone else has options.

@DM Patcher: What are the guidelines you have for creating NPCs?

Male Human Rogue 1 (Scout)

Lyle ready to go, I'll probably go to B-Team since A-Team already has a rogue. So Patcher are we making up our own traits for 2nd trait?

deb74vt@hotmail.com

@Calavas: I think the ruler's single stat is related to the idea that a ruler should be inspiring for his people. Which, as you mention with Solomon and Conan, isn't always the case. On the other hand, the existence of other leadership roles might also be the implication that the ruler is only the front figure, the face of the country.

I can imagine there being traits that allow you to use other stats for the ruler, but the fact that its single stat can affect all three statistics is possibly the balancing factor - besides which, I think it's great that Charisma gets its day in the limelight.

@Lyle: You can suggest your own trait - so long as it is relevant to the Kingdom - or you can simply pick a second trait that fits with the group.

Male Human Rogue 1 (Scout)

Are we just using the ones from the APG? or do we have other sources to pick from?

There's an enormous trait database here. So long as it thematically makes sense...

Male Goblin Rogue (KM) 1

I'll shoot the npcs over to you.

The island is not that small. Since the hexes are 12miles across the island would be approximately 2.5mi x 2.5mi. The island would be just a little over 6 square miles. Mont Saint Michel is on an island considerably smaller than that.

I should have added the disclaimer about the name only being a placeholder and not intended for gameplay purposes. We will come up with a name once we have all the members selected.

For the A-Team I was thinking it would be great to have a NG city. What do you guys think?

Korvin wrote:

Alright, I'll take your word for it. Sense of scale was never my forte.

I was jesting about the name. I hoped the "dude" would give that away.

The only alignment my character might have difficulty with is chaotic neutral, and of course all the evil alignments.

I've taken the Pioneer trait from the Kingmaker series, it seemed appropriate. Nothing fancy, just a horse which luckily I had enough gold to outfit, and the Knowledge: Nature skill.

So it turns out that quite a few of the changes to my character were reverted... I've gone back and refixed them, but I'm not positive I caught everything (had to redo equipment, stats, alignment, etc). How odd...

Anyway, Khalil would prefer a LG or NG settlement and will probably work towards being a Warden.

Yeh - they did an update to the server a day or two ago I think, and one of my characters also reverted, a real pain.

Male Sootscale Kobold Witch/1

Kinda clueless on the traits. I do not know the Kingmaker stuff well enough to help much. I suppose with my healing powers, I could have a trait which benefits the communities stability or loyalty by +1 or +2. Healthy communities are happy communities.

Other than this, there are numerous regular traits I could take to buff up saving throws or give me another skill. I do hope to avoid melee, so combat traits would not be very useful - for the game or my background.
_______________________

As far as the A-Team is considered, we need to decide to either have the high-charisma haunted oracle as our ruler, or one of the other two players. Right now we are looking a little soft on the charisma stat.

Jerix might be a good fit for the Charisma, and we definitely need a warrior or two.
