What characters you tend to play?

everyone has a tendency of characters they like to play, having a quick look at my alliace sheet, it seems i like to play melee focus, male characters that are skilled, sophisticated and lawful (usually neutral cause i'd never get to play LE)

so what characters you like to play with? whats ya schtick?

Wizard. I would play one every time if I could. hands down.

Liberty's Edge

I tend to play female divine-fueled characters. Clerics/Oracles/Inquisitors. Next up, a paladin. I don't mind playing males, but I tend toward females.

If I'm building something new and don't know the group, I tend to try to make a character with as many varied abilities as possible -- I think partially to ensure that I don't suffer because someone else is bad at their role... (So, yeah, Bard or Inquisitor...)

However, that notwithstanding, I have made (do make) and enjoyed (do enjoy) playing all types of characters -- as long as I can get a mental "handle" on the characters and make them somewhat interesting/unique (by choice of race, deity, history, whatever..)

I don't get to PC very often so, if I've got a niche, it's never playing the same thing twice. I tend to make whatever character I'm playing next as different from my last one as possible. I might only get to run a PC for a few sessions once every 2-3 years so I'm kind of limiting myself if I always play a certain type.

Mostly rangers and non charisma based characters. Played a lot of rouges in the past. I also tend to like archery with several characters. I also like skills points but not social skills that much.

Either a Wizard type character or a melee type character. I can not recall playing many Rogues.

I like most, though I tend to favour rogue-ish types (rogue, inquisitor, etc) and spontaneous casters (sorcs/favoured souls/etc). Alignment-wise my preference is toward lawful and/or good.

On the other hand I tend to avoid bards (though I have played them, I'm not very musically inclined though), nature-y themed ones (druids and rangers), and barbarians (not sure why). Not really fond of chaotic and/or evil characters.

Druids.

I typically play Wizards. I have played many different types of characters, but Wizards I always fall back to.

Liberty's Edge

Spellcasters (every character I've ever played has had some form of spell casting), dual threat (Druid, Magus, Battle Oracle) more often than not and favoring arcane to divine. Females probably about half the time. Good alignments, favoring Neutral Good. I like charismatic characters when possible as well.

Human male fighters. I've played different classes and races over the years, of course. But in the last few years I almost always gravitate to Human male fighters. I recently played an inquisitor (again, Human male)and really enjoyed the character until he died in the first adventure...lol. I spent weeks tweaking that character, too! lol

any non-divine class, any race but gnome.

Human Fighter w/military background and Elven Wizard from a long line of famously mediocre Wizards are the only ones that have ever really made a repeat appearance though... having played each of those exactly twice, which is twice as many times as I've played any other character "idea."

...I started my gaming career as a GM, so I got really good at getting into a variety of different sorts of characters.

I like to play various sorts of characters, but always try to give them a twist. One of my favorite past characters was a 3.5 monk built with a focus on rogue skills. He was actually the party trapfinder and locksmith. He fought using the drunken style and hauled barrels of brandy around in a wagon to support it.

He had an unfortunate encounter with a red dragon culminating in a spectacular explosion that lit up the countryside for miles around.

It was really hard to get that little pile of ashes resurrected.

Support, with a degree of focused specialization. A maneuver savvy fighter in a caster-heavy group, an undead hunter cleric in a melee-oriented one, a roguish bard in an otherwise balanced party.
Lawful neutral whenever possible.

Freakin' typos and freakin' cold.

Healers, primarily, and, if available, 'pet' classes.

In D&D/PF that's Clerics, Druids, Necromancers (particularly with the Unearthed Arcana specialist option!), Summoners, etc.

In online games, that trend holds true;
Everquest 2 - Defiler, Necromancer, Conjurer
Dark Ages of Camelot - Theurgist, Cabalist, Necromancer, Shaman, Hunter, Bonedancer, Druid
Age of Conan - Tempest of Set, Demonologist, Necromancer
Star Wars Galaxies - Combat Medic, Creature Handler
World of Warcraft - Warlock, Hunter, Druid
City of Heroes/Villains - Controller, Defender/Mastermind, Mastermind, Mastermind!

Pretty much all healers and / or 'pet' classes.

When one can be a (kinda/sorta) healer *and* a pet class (EQ Necromancer, DAoC Cabalist, CoV Mastermind), so much the better.

Some characters and some adventures.

Queen of spiders : Cernunnos - Druid human of Silvanus.

Return to the temple of elemental evil: Kayman Klynman - Cleric Human worshiped the earth elementals.

How the Mighty are fallen - Fandir of the earth human Druid Obad - Hai.

Temple of the elemental evil - Tyax human cleric of St Cuthbert

In pathfinder era I have always been gm.

All my characters end up being skill-monkeys to the extent their class allows. Love being able to do as much stuff as possible. :P And they tend to be human or elves. But those are the only real patterns I can spot looking back.

And it's the converse of the question but I've not had a single divine magic character in a campaign.

A lot of adepts, aristocrats, commoners, experts, and warriors mostly. A troll here, and a goblin there. Every once in a while a demon thrown into the mix. Of course, I GM, so...

I play whatever the party lacks. If I have free reign over the choice, either a bard or a barbarian. Sometimes a wizard.

I have some variety, but I like skillmonkeys best (rogues, bards, if I want to go martial, ranger). I'm playing a full class Sorcerer right now and it's driving me crazy I don't have certain class skills. (I am enjoying the sorcerer however.)

Mostly humans or half-races... never played a dwarf.

Haven't actually played a girl... so there's one answer (i'm flawed).

Looking at my aliases, I see that I favor melee.... in a big way. (and I love ellipses, apparently.)

Then spontaneous casters.

All of them seem to have a theme of high Dex.

Hmmm... i can't help but try to figure out what this says about me as a person.

Sovereign Court

Just about anything really but I prefer fighter types i.e fighters, rangers, barbarians, a swashbuckler once and even rogue types

I prefer not to play spell casters, but I have played magic-users (Wizards 1st ed) Sorcerer, and a witch. and 1 cleric

In all my years of playing (since 1979) I have never played the following
Paladin
Cavalier
Illusionist (1st Ed)
Monk (I actually hate monks)
Druid
or anything in the APG besides a witch or in the Ultimate Combat/Magic books

I have played the most rangers with fighters a close 2nd.

Race wise, I prefer humans, but I have played 1/2 elves, elves, 1 halfling, 1 gnome and now 2 dwarves.

Half-orc Fighter/rogue
Wizard-human
Ranger anything but elf.
Monk-human
Assasin:

Currently I am playing a wizard/necromancer-fiend binder.

Also I am playing a low level bard: who has a dragon bloodline.

Pretty much I have played alot of characters but mostly I find myself DMing.

I avoid anything elvish don't like them as a race.

I seem to have a penchant for arcane fighters, especially ones that can wield electricity. Even the Rogue I once played had a ring that gave her electrical powers.

It varies, for me. I play whatever character idea that most appeals to me at the time (though, when necessary, I'll go with whatever fits the party best). I usually think up a character and try to wrap a class around whatever I want him to do. In the two campaigns I'm in now (Council of Thieves; Rise of the Rune Lords), I'm playing a brooding rogue (CoT) and an obnoxious, little elf-boy wizard (RotRL, and he's the party leader).

Someone who can use magic and fight a bit; I've played a lot of clerics, for instance. But I'll play pretty much anything once.

I normally play wizards or rogues.

Once back in 2e I played a cleric. That didn't go so well. The party necromancer and I killed the entire party and ended up breaking up the group (granted, we did it on purpose and it fit the story 100%).

Shadow Lodge

I usually end up playing something along the lines of a gnome bard.

I like supportive, managerial roles. I'm more than willing to let other PCs score the big hit--and I'll help them do so.

My approach to solving problems is reframing and redefining the problem whenever possible, using whatever I have on hand, and outmaneuvering the obstacles. I'm the party's MacGyver. I also like coming up with solutions that would never have been considered in the first place.

As a result, that can mean wizards, summoners, fifth members, clerics, skillmonkeys, all sorts of things like that.

The Exchange

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Awesome ones.

Spontaneous casters, usually neutral or intelligent evil. I only play good when I want a challenge.

But then I usually DM small groups. When they need the extra PC I'll take the support role and let them shine.
