[Community Project] Wayfinder #4: Winter 2010 Edition

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

1 to 50 of 246 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | next > last >>

The jungles of Garund call out to adventurers and profiteers of every caliber. Its secrets are as plentiful as its dangers, from the mundane worries of disease and heat to the threat of fierce ape-men and beasts of legend, and only a handful make it out alive to tell their tale.
Welcome to the Mwangi Expanse!

Some of you may remember this little fan project called Wayfinder (if you aren't, go get yourself acquainted). It is now time for the fourth issue of Wayfinder Once again I will be lead cat herder for this project, and here are the rules and guidelines for submitting to the fanzine.
Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Chronicles world of Golarion.
Types of Submissions
Regular Columns

  • Sidetreks: Set in a particular region of Golarion, Sidetreks will feature short outlines for a sidetrek adventure. Please reference Wayfinder #2 & 3 for the layout for this article. For Wayfinder #4, these regions are the Mwangi Expanse, Sargava, the Shackles and the Sodden Lands. One sidetrek outline per submission for this column. Submission size: 325 words.
  • Tales from the Front: Fiction articles based on any of Paizo’s adventure modules or paths.
  • Taste of Golarion: We're continuing collections for The Golarion Cookbook! One recipe per submission for this column.
  • Weal or Woe? Two NPCs (including statblocks), one helpful, one not so much. Include hooks for the PCs to know (or hate) this NPC and how to use them in a campaign. New! Include a boon and drawback for the NPCs in your article (see Pathfinder Chronicles: NPC Guide for example boons).

In addition to our regular columns, Wayfinder #4 will be focusing on the Mwangi Expanse and the surrounding regions of Sargava, the Shackles and the Sodden Lands. Please use Pathfinder Chronicles: Heart of the Jungle as your main reference! In the case of a plethora of articles on similar subjects, preference will be given to articles that follow this theme. As always, crunch, fiction and flavor articles are welcome!
Guidelines

  • Thou shalt not disregard canon, thou shalt build upon it.
  • Keep in mind thy audience. No slash fic/porn fantasies, cheesecake/beefcake/fan service - keep it PG-13.
  • Short and sweet. Unless otherwise specified, article sizes are 750 and 1500 words. Anything over 1500 words will have to be pre-approved by me.
  • Submissions used to defame, harass or threaten board members are not tolerated.

Submission Instructions

  • Conditions for Submissions. All authors and artists must agree to have their works reproduced for other Wayfinder products, be it for translations into other languages, special publications, or use on a Wayfinder website. (We will be responsible for the truthfulness of the translations). All of Wayfinder’s publications are NON-PROFIT, and authors and artists will be given proper credit where due.
  • Send all submissions to me via email with the subject line "Wayfinder #4". My email is listed in my profile.
  • All text submissions submitted in .doc format (doesn't matter if you use Office or OpenOffice). Do not use fancy fonts or colors - these will get stripped out in the editing and layout process. Use the standard body font for the program you're using - bold and italics are fine.
  • All images and art must be in JPG or PNG format, 300 dpi resolution preferred. If you do not send it in a high enough resolution, it will be resized appropriately.
  • Include your name and board name in your submission - example, "Liz 'Lilith' Courts". Your entries will go through editing passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback on the editing process and your script.
  • DEADLINE: October 1st. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Some articles may be rejected depending on the final size of the PDF.

Advertising

  • Fan projects operating under Paizo’s Community Use Policy are welcome to advertise their websites and materials in Wayfinder #4.
  • Third party publishers wishing to advertise their Pathfinder Roleplaying Game-compatible projects in Wayfinder #4 are welcome to advertise as well. Space is available for 1/4, 1/2 and full page ads.
  • Email me for questions about pricing. Email is in my profile - be sure to include "Wayfinder #4 Advertising" in your subject line.
  • DEADLINE: October 31st.

A PDF copy will be available for free here at Paizo.com, with print-on-demand through Lulu at some point in the future.

I’m looking forward to everybody’s entries. Now every run through the jungle!

Thanks Lilith, Hugo, and everyone else for doing this!

Hugo,

I'd be interested in doing an illustration or two if you find yourself in need ...

If you need help with proofreading, I'm in. As long as it's not me who's done the writing I'm sppoky [edit: sic] good at spotting mis-spells and typos.

And as long as I have everyone's (someone's? anyones's?) attention: I've been thinking of doing a divine herald of Milani as a sequel to my WF3 article, but to put it bluntly, I suck at monster-stat creating, would anyone be interested in helping me out?

Don't forget, if you're a fiction writer and want a guaranteed spot in Wayfinder #4, enter your writing into the Pathfinder Chronicler fan fiction contest and win cool stuff, not the least of which is your entry in Wayfinder! (The contest ends on September 12th, so really get crackin' on it!)

Wow, #4 is underway already...

Lilith, Hugo, this is awesome and I think I'll give weal and woe a try.

You can submit articles that do not cover the theme in question.

AWESOME!!!!

Okay...Mwangi. Engaging brain...Ooooh! This is perfect! Brainstorm developing!

Additionally, Lilith, if you need some editorial help again, please let me know. You've got my contact info, yes?

Woohoo! (This is all very exciting, doncha know?)

Scarab Sages

And I've got a recipe sent off already. :)

Let me know if you don't get it Lilith.

Are new monster submissions still ok?

I have a recipe submission too, but I need to test some modifications in the kitchen. Also, are carrots native to Garund or Avistan?

Paizo Employee Director of Game Development

I can lend a hand on some editing, and I hope to have the time to get an article or two in.

Talk with Black Fang in the chatroom - he's good with monsters. :D

Absolutely!

Hooray for recipes! Given the information that we've received thus far on climate of the Inner Sea regions, carrots would be fine to include in your recipe (though parsnips are a tasty and rustic alternative).

Hello, I want to send some art, altough I'm confused about the process.

I send whatever I want (related to the Fanzine theme) and you use related art for the articles; or you tell the artist what you want after you get the articles?

I have seen in past threads mentions to ordering some art after getting the written articles submissions, does that mean that the Deadline for finished art isn't October 1st?

Ah, what kind of information should I send to Hugo?

Thx in advance.

Dark Archive

to the jungle! well this time i'll do a weal or woe article...

Sovereign Court

Mmmm...I keep meaning to get involved in this. I can offer art, and will see if there's anything I would like to write...

Since this issue will be publish by the end of Nov or early December, the art orders have a deadline around the end of octuber or mid november. I'll give final deadlines in october to the signed up artists.

Right now, you can email me to count you as an available artists for Wayfinder 4 and as soon as I get the edited articles from Liz, I'll assign the art orders to the volunteer artists.

What we need from artists:
-Full name and moniker if any
-Paizo account name
-Mention you artsy technique
-The amount of pieces you could do <Think this one real hard!

We love color art, but can work with B&W if necessary. PSD, JPG or Tiff files at 200dpi minimum.

The same copyright of the articles is applied to art pieces.

Jess Door is REQUIRED to apply this time... ;)

Ad rates will be sent out to 3PP I assume? Or can we download them from somewhere?

Thanks!

Heheh. I am an evil, lazy person. BUT I've quit WoW again, so I hope to have more time.

Oh! I just found the perfect Copic colors for darker skin tones! Woot! I've been trying different combos with mixed success up til now...I have a cool Kalashtar arcane duelist I need to ink and color...

Since it's a PDF-only issue, there is no charge for advertising.

Seems I'll have make a tradition of being difficult :(

Any chance you can pass him my e-mail address? There's something wrong with the big computer that's stopping it from connecting to the interwebs, so to make things short: Until at least December, if I want to go online, I'll either have to use an Ipod, or take a walk over to my parents' house, neither of which makes for good chatroom visits (especially with the time difference between the US and Swedish west coasts).

:( again.

Dropped you an e-mail. Sorry for being slow, but unlike most of my message-board posts, I figured it'd be good if I put some thought into what I wrote in it so it didn't devolve into unintelligible stream of consciousness text.

E-mail received. I'll get to work as soon as I'm done with another statblock I'm working on.
