Msking your own character sheet i think would be the best way to go as you'll be able to place everything exactly the way you want it.

that said, a regular notebook/binder is really flexiable as a character sheet

Hey gang, sorry to inform but I’ll have to bow out.

WOW!, there are 46 post to catchup on, I'll see about getting a post in over the weekend after I've caught up on the reading

just curious, you decide on anything or narrowed down choices?

I guess you could just hold the gold to add to another item later?

Ghetto, as a crusader, Brinmore enters combat with three random maneuvers available. Could you randomly select three maneuvers and let me know which ones they are so that I know what is available for my action?

Thanks!

So you need not wait for Ghetto, you could just use IC to make random rolls then select maneuvers based on the result. You can just post the link for him

So a paladin's Turn Undead is 3 less than a Cleric's, does that apply to both the Turning Check and the Turning Damage? I had thought it applied only to the Turning Damage?

So i figured my TU roll could turn up to a 6HD creature and the turning damage would be 17HD worth of undead.

A paladin does indeed count as three levels lower for the check and the damage. So you turned 17 HD worth of 3 HD creatures.

ah, now i see why everyone says paladins suck at TU, good thing i plan on using my TU for powering feats and such

Hey Ghetto, will we be posting actions according to our initiative count?

Right now I'm just trying to get Initiative counts and positions. Once I do, you can post your intended actions whenever you'd like, and the actions will resolve in initiative order. I'm aware that this can get chaotic, but it will go smoother if you pay attention to what each other is doing, as well as what they are capable of doing.

Right now I'm playing in a 4E pbp where there is little teamwork and everyone is just focusing on what he or she can do. We're not very efficient and have had one character death in our second fight.

Try work together and talk out tactics. It will help.

all sounds good to me. During combat encounters I'll likely post actions according to the Initiative count to avoid confusion

Click the game link below for a 3.5 to wet your whistle. The game is as in-depth as you care to make it.

Character generation rules are on the first two pages I believe, pretty much any race/class is allowed.

The game itself hasn’t been going on long and recently several new recruits have joined, myself being one of them. Were still in an ideal spot for players to join in.

Starting level 5th
Max HP per level

So jump to the thread and post your interest and ask any questions, hope to see you there

One of the Fighters should be close to him for support.

Let you guys decide who wants to share middle watch with me.

I say lets do both, that is, chose a standard format or two (march and camp) then if it comes up in role play then positions would change for that occurence, then resume back to the standard format.

That said Zuberi would normally take a front position, unless he's asked to guard the rear, either works for me.

With Caran that makes a party of 7, plus the 15 guards, oh and Caledon

yes, augment crystal whether armor, shield, or weapon merge with the item, its a move action to place or remove a cyrstal, and no AOO to do so

haha, yeah i noticed that, since your favored enemy is undead for a moment i thought you might take the Vampire Hunter feat to offset the low Will save. Would make you immune to vamps domination and allow you to detect them also

I did a quick check of your skills

your Jump would increase by +3 (increased movement +4, and armor check penalty -1)

and from the skills posted I have you as having 7 skill points left from the ranger class

and it looks like if you wanted, you could upgrade your +1 chain Shirt to a +1 Mithral Shirt and still have enough to buy pizza for all :)

+1 Chain Shirt cost 1,250, you charged yourself an extra 1,000

Hope no one minds but I like to add characters with whom I play with into my database. I found some inconsistency with some of the characters which I’ve listed

CON: 13 ( 5 points) = 13
INT: 14 ( 6 points) - 2 = 12
WIS: 11 ( 3 points)+2 = 13
CHA: 8 = 8

The point assignment above is correct. Though not matching your characters profile stats

In the profile…
Looks like your 4th level stat increase went into Wis, increasing it to 14, but you have Int at 14, which should be 12 as your numbers above indicate.

To balance out the numbers so they reflect the numbers in your profile, decrease Dex down to 22, thus you’ll not have to make any other adjustment. The redistributed point assignment would mean that your 4th level stat increase would have gone into Dex.

Your saves should read Fort +5, Reflex +10, Will +6

Without the +1 Quarterstaff being included, equipment listed total leaves 1,279gp

Boots of Striding & Springing give an enhancement bonus to movement, the Monks Fast Movement is also an enhancement bonus, so they’ll not stack, though you still get the +5 bonus to Jump checks

Gaspar

I could only get your saves up to Fort: 11, Reflex: 4, Will: 12

Crystal of Lifekeeping (Shield), I looked at this for myself but it was listed as an Armor crystal

Lyria

From your stats, it looks like the 4th level stat increase went into Int, this thus would result in 6 less skill points, because levels 1-3 your Int modifier is only +3, resulting in 4 less skill points at 1st, and 1 each for 2nd and 3rd level. Dropping Cha down to 8 would allow Lyria to begin with an Int 18 stat at 1st level, and you’ll still have that 4th level stat increase free to place where ever you like.

Rourke

Disable Device +13 (+17 w/ Mstrwrk T Tools)
Open Lock +12 (+16 w/ Mstrwrk T Tools)

Mstrwrk T Tools are a 4 point offset

I have a few class features you might be interested in.

The first replaces turn undead and lets you deal 1d6/level to undead.

The second replaces a domain power and makes your daylight spell count as actual daylight to creatures affected by natural daylight.

And the third also replaces a domain power and it lets you spend a turn undead to give allies within 30 feet fast healing 2 for 5 rounds.

If you're interested in any of these let me know and I'll post info on the organization you need to join to get them.

That would be great. If the organizations fit in with his concept I would definitely be interested. Send me the info and I'll see how it works. The whole greater turning once per day domain power doesn't excite me too much withe the "Disciple of the Sun" feat.

from looking at Gaspar's profile i take it you've decided not to go with any of the above mentioned alternate class features, correct?

In either case since we both turn undead, should/would we have a plan already set?

per my profile you can expect Lance (if he goes first in the initiative count) to TU to thin out the weaker ones, leaving Gaspar to hopefully be able to target the tougher ones?

side note, a Truedeath Weapon Augment Crystal cost 1,000gp and deals an additional 1d6 against undead. :)

As for background info I’ve been going through all the info you’ve posted and trying to organize it.

For character info might I suggest letting us know info what would/might be common knowledge on a board aspect on regional and global events, also for history. Then more additional and specific info on regional, global, and history events based on some rolls.

Another suggestion that will require more time on your behave is to write a journal/diary or maybe even a calendar timeline format on your worlds history, current events, races etc… Basically a lot of the background info you’ve already posted will be more structured this way instead of getting it in bits and pieces.

Save it to a file and update it as your world advances. The file can be uploaded so that current and future players could download it.

ok, working on catchup... :)

In researching info to further understand how one adjudicates what’s in a characters nature etc.., I found the topics below which I believe could be quite useful.

Adjudicating Charm Spells, Part 1
Adjudicating Charm Spells, Part 2

Also, I say it fairly reasonable that our characters are familiar with charm/compulsion effects and since we’ve already had previous adventures together that we should come to some sort of a plan on how we’ve agreed to handle it if one of our own is under anothers influence, yes, no?

On the subject of our character having had previous adventures together, I figure we would know a bit about one another, so I’m going to go ahead and read the other player characters backgrounds, which would be information my character would know.

If there’s anything particular in anyone’s background that wouldn’t be known to their companions then let me know, that’s if its not already stated as so in the backgrounds description.

Ghetto, my characters background encompass the fact that Lance’s mother was either romantically involved with a vampire (whether she knew it or not) or that she was attacked by a vampire while pregnant. Whether she lived or not is another matter, or if she learned the truth afterwards.

I could use a bit of input as to which above scene works best for this games purpose. Primarily I ask in the event that you may want to use it as part of the adventure.

Ok, want to make sure I cover my bases.

From PHB Dominate spell

”PHB” wrote:

If my character is aware or suspects that one of his allies is being controlled/dominated, would using the Charm Gaze on them to influence them to resist a command/action allow them to receive a new saving throw?

Also, since I would be using the Charm Gaze for the sole purpose of trying to free the characters will, would doing so break my paladins code?

Recently, you've gotten word from an organization known as the Lightbringers, that some of their members have gone missing in Barovia. A group of Lightbringers led by a paladin named Ashlynn sent a message saying the village was plagued by zombies, and asked for reinforcements.

Now is the time to do any last minute tweaking to your character, as well as get to know the others.

Have any of you, heard of this human female or the dwelling-land of which she speaks? It is not often that one would get messages from another of which one knows not.
You were contacted by the Lightbringers. The paladin sent the message to them, not you.

My thoughts on the emergency loan comes from the above posts.

If Lightbringer members are going missing (which I would be a member of and Favored in Guild) and the village is plagued by zombies, well zombies just don’t pop up on their own so something else is in the works. This usually means the work of an evil cleric/wizard.

And as already mentioned that members have gone missing (not just slain), it could well warrant some form of emergence cash flow, or access to some undead specific items (which you could select) from which I would have to spend the emergence cash on.

It may bear mentioning as this is somewhat working behind the scenes but would being an experienceed warrior (6th character) have any weight behind the request. I can understand not giving gold out freely to a first level new recruit

ghettowedge wrote:
Lorderl, sorry, but I don't think a weapon enhancement justifies an "emergency loan". I don't think I'd subsidize more than 100gp at this point, just to offset the guild entry requirement.

Ok, besides the emergency loan, you had mentioned some further reimbursement (beyond the 10%) for being a Favored in Guild which I would be taking the feat at first level. I wasn’t referring to just being a standard Lightbringer member.

Because of my character theme/concept I knowingly purchased items that would fit the theme, such as…

Truedeath Crystal (extra damage against undead)
Restful Crystal (hunting undead usually requires dungeons, so sleeping in armor is highly recommended)
Holy Surge (the name says it all)
Alchemical Silver weapon (preferred to go Silver)
Aspergillum (allows you to spray holy water)
Holy Symbol, Wooden (curious if this can double as a stake?)
Healing Belt (can be used against undead)
Inquisitor Bracers (specially create to weed out vampires from normal folk)

There’s must be some kickback for the above items, no? Even with just the 10% I could have possibly gotten my weapon to Silver or perhaps have gotten some other useful item(s)

Ok, other than for character theme/concept and the 100gp offset for guild membership, its really hard to justify the feat investment, which I’m already tight for because of my template.

ghettowedge wrote:

Loderl - You're in. The only thing I immediately noticed off about your character was that you should only have 2 feats. Level Adjustments don't count as Hit Dice. Also take a look at the prestige class info above as well as the Lightbringer organization info I posted. I have the following alternative class features for a Lightbringer Paladin:

  • Detect Undead that replaces Detect Evil.
  • Pelor's Blessing replaces Divine Health and increases your Smite Evil bonuses when used against undead.

Sweet!, I’ve recently started getting my feet wet with templates and see now why many are avoided, though I’m still going to go with this concept so I get a feel for their worth. I'm currently working on finishing the characters details and such.

I’ll pass on the Detect Evil swap as one of the PrC’s I’m going to take grants Detect Undead, its Hunter of the Dead.

While on the subject of the Hunter of the Dead PrC, the Scar of Unlife requirement comes to mind. Could this have already taken place during the earlier levels or perhaps the fact that he’s already a Half-Vampire meet this requirement, or should I be looking to get wacked at least once?

Pelor’s Blessing sounds good to me, I’ll take it :) What’s a bit of Mummy Rot between friends, haha :)

Other PrC which I’m planning to take are Shadow Striker (Complete Champion) and Holy Liberator (Complete Divine)

LIGHTBRINGERS BENEFITS

All guilds provide basic services to their members, including food and lodging, a 10% subsidy on the cost of basic supplies and guild related services, [i]emergency loans, and other aid. Guild members gain a contact within the organization that can help with specific tasks.

In addition, for the course of this game the guild also provides the following benefits.

  • A guild member gains access to the alternative class features.
  • Lightbringers respect each other. A guild member recieves a +2 circumstance bonus on Diplomacy or Gather Information checks made while talking to a fellow Lightbringer.
  • Guild members qualify for the Favored in Guild feat.

New Feat: Favored in Guild
You are an active and valued member of your guild.
Prerequisites: Membership in a guild. 2 ranks in an associated skill and at least 1 rank in another of the guild's associated skills.
Benefit: As an active and necessary member of your guild, select one of your guild's associated skills. As long as you remain a member of the guild, you gain a +2 competence bonus on all checks made with that skill. As a lightbringer you also gain a further discount on equipment useful in combating undead, including stakes, holy water, and so on.
Gaspar, if you select this feat I'll reimburse you some gp based on your selected equipment.

Ok, the entry requirement is cake, the real question is what I have in bold above as it will factor into what items I can purchase.

So maybe with the 10%, an emergency loan, other aid and further discount on equipment for being a Favored in Guild (which I’ve listed as my 1st level feat to show character involvement/initiation from beginning of career), I could possibly enhance my weapon to Undead Bane, from Alchemical Silver (-1 damage) to Silver (no damage penalty). Or possibly an armor, shield enhancement

Please fill me in on an amount if an emergency loan is possible and or the other discount benefits or how that works

I’ve been thinking to ask to join for some time now since Ghetto’s original post accommodated up to 7 players, so I figured since there are currently 6, you might want another to assist in the cause and Ghetto mentioned this was a tough adventure. Of course, I could just take practiced Caster at 1st lvl. It's description says you can take it even if you can;t actually make use of it until later. Then I could take Energy Sub at 4th lvl?

personally i like the whole Catfolk idea, with you becoming Bast avatar.

funny thing is my characters background involves selective breeding which could easily spill over into your characters background.

anyways, to take the Energy Sub at 3rd level will mean that you’ll have to take another MMFeat at 1st level, that is regardless of your race. Being human will allow you that extra feat which you could take Practiced Caster, though at 6th level (which is next) you could take it then and still retain the Catfolk race.

Unless I posted it incorrectly the +3 referred to damage done with the quarterstaff, I believe you had damage listed at +2 with it. and yes attacking with it is at +4 to hit

I use a program called E-Tools, and to be honest without it I believe I would likely have a character sheet from hell.

Remembering feat prereq’s, skills and all that stuff is enough to drive someone mad. Glad I could be of help :)

Heck, I took another look at my own character and saw that I had omitted a few things that others had included in their character profile so I just finished that up myself. :)

I think NOW I can say my profile is complete, just need Val to read through the background for approval and or if he’d like to add something more to it.

Actually it was Nightwish who put up the link.

Just retooled a bit swapping out Weapon focus Short Sword (pretty much a back up weapon) with Shield Ward to improve my tanking against casters and other touch attacks, especially since next Knight level I pick up Test of Mettle. Love the Knight features make for great roleplaying in battle as well as tactics.

oops, credit and thxs to Nightwish :)

I hadn't looked at the knight class until last week, and was/am quite impressed, d12 for HD and cool abilites WOW!!!

can't wait to see'em in action :)

you think when were walking side by side through the encampment that we could do that slow motion effect the movies do when character walk in stride :)

Unfortunately for me, it won't run on any machine I have access to.

Ragadolf, I took another peek at Kemnebi Djal Ibenbast and inserted it in another character generator program. I’ll have to give that Hero one a good run through at some point :) thanks for posting the link Vulcan.

The details of your characters LA I’ll leave that between you and Val, but I’ll like to know if LA buyoff is an option to us? however it might work :)

here are a few things I’ve found to help correct a few things

Feats
Energy Substitution has a prerequisite of one other Metamagic feat, plus Knowledge (Arcane) 5 ranks. The 5 ranks in Knowledge (Arcane) makes it impossible for any character to take this feat at 1st level.

Skills
1st level: 20 skill points
2nd level: +5 Skill points
3rd level: +5 Skill Points
4th level: +6 Skill points
5th level: +6 Skill points

From levels 1st through 3rd your Int modifier is +3, at 4th level your bonus stat point increased it to +4 which gives you the 1 extra skill point from 4th level and up. An increase in the Intelligence modifier does not give a retroactive bonus to skill points like the Constitution modifier would to hit points.

Jump gains +4 due to increased movement
Move silently gains +3 due to Familiar (in all likelihood you’ll always be within 1 mile of each other)

Synergy Bonus
Knowledge (Arcane) gives +2 Spellcraft checks

All your melee weapons should attack at +4 to hit (+5 if Masterwork), you have a couple at +2
Quarterstaff damage will be at +3 because it’s a twohanded weapon

As previously mentioned you will incur an XP penalty from non favored classes more than 1 level apart. I’m guessing your latest level increase was in the Sorcerer class as not to incur the penalty up to this point.

The Tressym is an Improved Familiar, requiring the Improved Familiar feat

Name: Hathor if black cat,- OR- Khensu “He who travels the sky” if a Tressym
Cat: Tiny Animal (Magic creature)
Hit Dice: 5 (Masters' level)
HP: 17 (1/2 of Masters' HP rounded down)
Initiative: +2
Speed: 30', (If Tressym, Fly speed of ?)
Armor Class: 17 (+2 size, +2 Dex, +3 Familiar bonus) Touch: 17, Flat Footed: 15
Base Attack/Grapple: +2/-10
Attack: 2 Claw +6 melee (1d2-4)
Full Attack: 2 Claw +6 Melee (1d2-4); and Bite, +1 Melee (1d3-4)
Space/Reach: 2.5ft. / 0ft.
Special Attacks: Masters' spells
Special Qualities: Low-light Vision (Ex), Scent (Ex)
Saves: Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +7 (Own or Masters', whichever is better)
Abilities: Str 3, Dex 15, Con 10, Int 8, Wis 12, Cha 7
Skills: Balance +10, Climb +6, Concentration +11, Hide +14, Jump +10, Listen +3, Move Silently +10. Spot +3
Feats: Weapon Finesse

Skills: Cats receive a +4 racial bonus to Climb, Hide, and Move Silently checks and a +8 racial bonus to Balance and Jump checks. They use their dexterity modifier for Climb and Jump checks. In areas of tall grass or heavy undergrowth, the Hide bonus rises to +8.

Familiar benefits
