Oaths of Golarion

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I think it would be fun to generate a bunch of options for our characters to spout at appropriate moments or to mark themselves with catch phrases. I'll start it off in the spirit of the day:

"By the great chocolate titaness!"

Edit: Not that I'm fixating or anything, but...

"By the silken thighs of the great chocolate titaness!"
"By the raging joy of the great chocolate titaness!"
"By the crushing delight of the great chocolate titaness!"
"By the mighty mawl of the great chocolate titaness!"

The Exchange

"may the Lady of Graves take me if I'm a liar"

and

"the Steward of Skein be damned"

and for good measure:

"By Iomedae's brilliant wheel!"

Liberty's Edge

My Cayden-worshipping rogue/barb/chevalier would be fondest of:
"Cayden's thirst!"
"By Aroden's whiskers!" (he's a Taldan. Gods all have beards. Some Dwarven goddesses too)
"More brains in a cayhound's balls than there is in your head."
"Prettier (or softer) than the thighs of Thais!" (alliteration: always awesome)
"Gozreh, pray clutch me to your bosom, an' not show me the white of your beard." (usually said while getting on a boat)

"Smoother" is a near-alliteration.

By Gorum's blood drenched sword.

By Abaddar's shining coin.

Liberty's Edge

By Erastil's Enormous Rack!
--Couldn't resist

By Calistria's Wasp Stings!
--Couldn't resist again

We used to exclaim, "By Cuthbert's Mustache!" or "By Heironeous Glorious Mullet!" in our old Greyhawk setting games.

Liberty's Edge

"Stay thirsty my friends" Dos Equis, Chosen of Cayden Cailean.

"By Colbert's ear there shall be Fear today!"

Sovereign Court

Desna's Balls, man!

If this ben't Aroden's own truth, may Asmodeus bugger me for a liar!

His face was tighter than Abadar's purse-strings.

Urgathoa's Taint, what stinks in here!?

By Torag's left nut!

Look up six posts...

I had a player whose character was a priest of Desna that used "Stars!" as an exclamation of surprise. Also, I've always thought that most people don't use the evil gods in their oaths and swearing because they're afraid to draw their attention. It's a lot easier to explain to a good deity that you were just frustrated and you promise not to do it again if one of them takes an interest. XD Moreover, as Asmodeus is the god of contracts, swearing an oath in his name might actually be binding in some cosmic sense. Best not to take chances.

Great Malthus' Ghost, I like you people!

My own character is fond of swearing by Gozreh's nutsack. Optionally, for emphasis: Gozreh's swinging nutsack.

I wonder if that will go through the board filters?

It is more evil that the Mustache of Cosmo.

Sovereign Court

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Balazar, the iconic summoner (who I'm playing in James Jacobs's "Shadows Under Sandpoint" office game), recently came out with:

"By Geb's wrinkled dinkle!"

"Bueergh, I feel like Cayden in the morning."

"He's deader than Aroden."

Note that the normal reason to call a deity something other than their name is to AVOID drawing that attention. The idea is that if you say something irreverent about Abadar, say, and say "Master of the Vault's greed!" instead of Abadar's greed, he wouldn't hear you. This would generally be used for deities one does not worship, for obvious reasons.

"By Urgathoa's bony knees!"

"Bare as Urgathoa's nonexistent ladybits."

"That'll happen when Urgathoa dances the Can-Can."

"You look like you just saw Urgathoa dance the Can-Can."

"By Urgathoa's nonexistent knickers!"

Well hit me with the Starstone!

Serious like Earthfall.

Drunk as Cayden.

He went Orc ****.

Shoanti hospitality.

Like giving books to a Orc.

We use 'Goblin fire drill' in real life to describe the sort of situation that used to be described with ethnic slurs.

"By the Vault!" or "Like the Vault." (Abadarite, often part of an oath to keep a secret or protect an item or make sure a person is safe)

"Twelve Acts, I Swear!" (Iomedan, somewhat presumptuously comparing the oath-swearers resolve to Iomedae's perserverance through the Twelve Acts)

"Cayden's Blade!" (may or may not refer to a sword, depending on the situation, usually a compliment on a swordsman's prowess, or foolhardiness, or the same sort of compliment (or expression of disbelief) in more amorous matters)

"Steel and Strength!" (Gorumite battle-cry)

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

"Well get me drunk and throw me at the starstone!"

"Cayden's Mug!"

"Apsu's scales."

"Smoother than Brigh's left breast."

"Emptier than Groetus' purse."

My personal favourite, "Irori's perfected ego!"

"Midnight (Lord)'s caress."

Silver Crusade

By the power of Greyskull!!!!!!

(sorry couldn't resist)

How about:

"She went whiter than Iomedae's robes!" (An expression of someone else in shock)

"He's got some yellow in his black" (to describe an unfaithful person)

I was thinking more a replacement for "He went Ape ****."

Minotaur in a china shop.

That's just hot. Tell me you're playing a character based on him.

We tried to convince a generally whiny and cowardly player to base a new character on "the most interesting man in the world" once. It didn't so much work.

Alas no :( Not playing currently cause of RL demands.

Liberty's Edge

I read it somewhere, I can't take credit for it:

"Cayden's Codpiece!"
