Friday Publisher Preview: Second Look at Iconic Heroes Set #3

Friday, October 31, 2014

The happiest of Halloweens to all of you out there in Previewland! We're a little under three weeks from the November 19 release of The Lost Coast, the newest 45-figure Pathfinder Battles set. We've recently simplified our Pathfinder Battles Case Subscription, so if you want to make sure you don't miss a single figure setting up a subscription in the next week or so before we start shipping them is your best bet. I brought home a case of my own this week, and I'm really happy with how the set turned out. The giant Shemhazian Demon Case Incentive figure is fantastic, and the set includes lots of other favorites like Lamashtu cultists, Lamashtu herself, and the stupidest (and I mean that in a GREAT way) Hill Giant Chieftain ever created in prepainted plastic. I think you guys are really going to enjoy this one.

But we're not here today to talk about The Lost Coast! Instead, let's cast our minds forward to March 2015 to take a look at the second half of figures included in Iconic Heroes Set #3. Last week's preview revealed the first three iconic heroes in the set, Alhazra the oracle, Damiel the alchemist, and Alain the cavalier.

This week, we've got three more figures from the set.

Let's start off this week's preview with Imrijka, Half-Orc Inquisitor! Imrijka has proven to be one of the most popular iconic characters introduced in the Advanced Player's Guide. Outside of the iconics from the Core Rulebook and the amazingly popular witch, I tend to notice community-produced images of Imrijka more than almost any of our other iconics. As a lot of these images are of a decidedly adult nature, I assume we somehow tapped into the world's need for a decent-looking orc. (How's THAT for a Halloween shudder?) Whatever the reason, she's here to stay, and her new miniature looks fantastic.

And here's Balazar, Gnome Summoner. Balazar is a fun little guy who always has a trick up his sleeve. I wrote Balazar's Meet the Iconics backstory, and I've had a soft spot for him ever since. Our design team is currently at work revising Balazar's class, the summoner, for spring's Pathfinder Unchained hardcover, so expect to see a bit more of him in the near future.

Balazar is just a weird little gnome without his best buddy, the eidolon Padrig. Padrig can change his shape according to Balazar's will, and the two have been inseparable ever since they met many decades ago. As a representative of a creature type with no particular permanent shape, Padrig also works great for just about any weird monster you might want to throw at your players. Note the clear effect at his base. Cool!

All six figures in Iconic Heroes Set #3 come with a unique card for use with the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game that will be available ONLY in these special sets.

And that's it for this week. Enjoy the spooky holiday, and we'll see you back next week for a look at something REALLY SCARY!

Until then,

Wow these look great. Glad to see the inquisitorial archer with such a dynamic pose!

I have been waiting for Balazar and Padrig for some time now and I'm stoaked to see how nicely they've been done. Sure it's hard to tell from renders but I really like the look they have, especially the semi incorporeal transparent aspect to Padrig.

Thanks for the hill giant pic. It looks fantastic and coming from a random case it reassures me that wizkids may have mastered the issues. How did the NPC minis turn out? What's the face quality like in the case? Lost coast contains some really nice faces on the figures and I've got my fingers crossed in the hope that the detail has been captured.

The Hill Giant Chieftain looks like such a Goober. But, then, that's about right for a hill giant.

The Iconics are all looking quite impressive.

I've opened three of my bricks so far, and I've found two common figures with slightly misplaced eyes that I'd probably want to to fix before putting them on my game table. A lot of the faces look really good to me.

Misplaced eyes are nothing. The only thing that bothers me is obscured detail where the paint mars the facial features to the point where they lose detail. Sounds like a winner.

(whisper: I'd still get them anyway, more minis = more happy)

Silver Crusade

OH...MY...GAWD! Love the summoner and eidolon! That's all I got to say about that right thar.

the right arm of the giant, the one holding the logs looks weird, like a bunch of vines and not like an actual arm, the rest of him is awesome tho!

I'm both disturbed by this and compelled to search google...

I love the Wangering Giant!!!

Did PF Unchained get renamed to PF Unleashed? Are these Iconic sets part of the miniatures subscription?

They are not part of a subscription, but subscribers receive a discount on them.

Misplaced eyes on two commons does not bug me much. I hope this is what happens with my case.

As for this preview, once again these make me hopeful. I hope these sets come even close to what these images turn out like. I admit I am excited and hopeful for these sets.

I remember that giant, my party recruited him in our Kingmaker game

also love the minis

These look amazing! I'm so excited for another caster Gnome! And a Summoner, to boot!

I also really like the Eidolon, and the decision to go with a clear bottom to indicate the ability of the creature to change shape.

That Hill Giant looks spectacular! I'm probably more excited for this Lost Coast set then I have been for several previous releases.

That week is going to be crazy fun in the way of toys. Dragon Age: Inquisition comes out that Tuesday, with The Lost Coast following the next day.

Imrijka looks amazing! Padrig is cool too. Balazar looks... well its a good mini, but its still a gnome :)

Only when Erik has had too much coffee/not enough coffee/the exact right amount of coffee. Fixed.
