With just ten days left in 2015, this will be my last blog for the year. Next week John will give us some insight on our upcoming scenarios, and then it's on to the new year. Last week, I hinted that you should get out your paintbrushes and arm your glue guns—I hope you did, as I am pleased to announce the first in a series of Pathfinder Society contests!

Over my years in PFS, no matter where I traveled, I met fantastic artists. Their creations enhanced their tables and brought an added layer of "WOW" to their games. Unfortunately, most of these creations stay in their local areas and unless you're fortunate enough to live close by, you don't get to share in the fun. I intend this contest as way for our global community to share their creations and see what people are up to in other areas of the world.

The theme this time is a hand-painted Pathfinder Society mini. Whether a favorite player character or a beloved NPC, as long as it is from the Pathfinder Society and your creation it counts.

The prize? Gift certificates to paizo.com! First place will win $25 and three runners up will get $15 each.

The crunchy bits for entering:

  • You may only enter once
  • Entries must be submitted to contest@paizo.com
  • Include a photo of your mini and a name for the character portrayed (NOTE: Photos may be resized or cropped to better show off the mini for voting. We suggest trying to send the biggest possible resolution to retain details for resizing. Any image format is acceptable!)
  • Include your paizo.com username

Entries will be accepted until 12:00 PM Pacific time on January 11, 2016. Voting will open on January 14, 2016 and continue until February 5.

Our global community spans many cultures—no matter when and where your celebration, the Pathfinder Society team wishes you an enjoyable and joyful time. Stay safe and remember to set your calendars forward to 4716!

Cool...

First question, does this include painted minis from existing miniature companies (like Reaper), or is it for "from scratch" creations?

1/5

Can you enter work that you have done for others? In other words, it is not your character, but it is for PFS.

does it have to be a licensed Pathfinder mini (from reaper) or can it be any?

Silver Crusade 3/5

Can the photo include animal companions, eidolon, and other such companions?

For example Cavalier(Huntmaster), and his dog.

Heya!

The mini can be any line of miniatures, not specifically Pathfinder licensed ones. The photo can absolutely include companions of all sorts, as well. There's no restriction on who the mini ended up being for either. The main focus is that it is specifically a Pathfinder Society related mini :)

Ezren's cosplay of the 2E Invisible Stalker is stunning. 10/10.

So, you gonna give me back my mini for my Unseen Servant?

Hm, do I want to enter my bloodrager into this?

That mini might be too prolific, what with me having written an article about how I made it on Know Direction and all...

Maybe I'll take this as an opportunity to finally model my cleric of Sarenrae.

3/5

Does the mini have to be new? I.e. Can I enter something I painted last month or does it need to be something that is unpainted now?

I already did, I left it on your doorstep... you should go look for it.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Can it be a custom mini? I made and painted the Goblin Chief Effigy for the "We Be Goblins Free!" I ran this year for PFS credit. Can I enter that one?

You definitely should enter that one!

Ooo, this sounds exciting. Let me see if I've got a good paladin picture around here somewhere.

Does it have to be a painted mini? What about those of us who make our own paper pawns?

I have some awesome minis from

The Traitors Lodge.:
I built the 3 patchwork constructs listed in there out of bits and pieces of graphics from the pathfinder bestiary.

Maybe we can have a contest for custom pawns down the road?

Question!

By "your creation" does that mean the character represented needs to be our creation (so, PCs and vanity followers are allowed) or does that mean the representation itself needs to be our creation (so, a mini we painted for an NPC in one of the scenarios would be okay)?

To answer some of these questions:

- Mini does not have to be brand new for the contest.
- Can absolutely be a custom mini!
- Should really be a miniature. I'm sure we'll have opportunities for other creations, but this contest is specifically for miniatures this go around.
- "Your creation" means that it should be made *by* you, not a character exclusively of your own creation.

Hope that helps!

Too bad I can't submit a mini for my friend Rob..he did an AWESOME job on my Paladin/Swashbuckler

Oooh! Sounds fun. I like the idea of sharing with a bigger group because when I get to a con I see some amazing stuff (& no, I don't think my minis are amazing :)

Deciding will be the hardest part. Fortunately, (though I have been playing since season 0) I only have 6 characters. I just started and haven't painted -5 & -6 (Oread dino shaman & pet triceratops) & the C130 Pteranodon riding grippli HALO jumper).

-4 is painted 'tis great fun to play a fire wizard, not so much to paint one :). -3 is a recognizable mini & shows some backstory. -2 not finished painting (took too long to find a pirate without beard or boobs). -1 was my first attempt at modifying a mini. Turned out OK, but those eyes. Those eyes!

hmmm... both -2 & -1 are at 10 or 11. Maybe we shall have to fight for the honor :).

Is there going to be an 'amateur'/'sucks at arts' category in this one?

I have a figure, need to get paint, but my skills of an artist... are painfully lacking.

practice-practice...

You are, after all, "the Learner"...

It only took me 10 years or so to get halfway decent. (a few thousand minis...)

Just submitted mine, did you get yours done.

Sadly, no.

Between work being ...... work and fighting a nascent flu-bug thing with the sudden drop of 40 degrees of Fahrenheit (from the low 40's to around 0) there's just been no *energy* or creative oomph to make it happen.

Good luck to the folks putting in submissions, though!

Good luck, everyone!

I support a category like this, even if it meant fewer runner ups (smaller prize) in a single category.

The contest is a great idea. It got me off my butt to paint my first mini. Something I meant to get around to for the last 30 years.
