As vulnerable as he was blinded, Cassadar made quick steps away while he recovered from being jabbed in the eyes by the Halfling, and he felt more insulted than anything else that their opponents would resort to that. Setting his feet on the dirt, his vision cleared enough for him to sweep the arena, marking his opponents and verifying that none were going to take advantage of his rapidly ending weakness.

Once his eyes cleared enough to make sense of things, he deliberately stepped back into reach of the Gnome that was attacking Frakdar, anticipating the attack that it would provoke, and expecting another trick of some sort. His eyes were on the elf, but he was aware of the gnome, most certainly.
Stepping in to flank with Frakdar{I8}, provoking the AoO to Redirect(sicken):1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20 2rnds, Ref(15) to halve duration, Attack:1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9

Once within reach, he struck at the gnome again, wanting to remove him from the field of play, so he could test himself against his compatriot. Their strategy was becoming clearer to him now, and intellectually, he wanted to dismantle it piece by piece. He had a plan.

Minor Crab-beast

Frakdar and Cassadar easily identify the man as a devotee of Our Lord in Iron - Gorum. As Gorak shakes out the flames the priest warily re-takes his seat.

Sense Motive (halfling): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
The halfling senses that Cassadar is purposely drawing a strike and refrains from offering one. Cassadar's follow up strike is too weak to breach the halfling's defenses. Then after noticing that he is in a dangerous position, seeks to improve it...
Attacking Cassadar - Flurry of Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 and Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
...though his attempted unbalancing is unsuccessful.

The half-orc roars again and launches a uncontrolled headbutt at the Bear...
Headbutt: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 for 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
...striking him solidly in the shoulder, numbing it with the force behind the impact.

The garundi grimaces with an open tongueless mouth at Javi's strike and attempts to return the favor....
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 for 1d3 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
...catching the half-elf with a thundering rib strike.

The elf smiles as Frakdar is unable to hold her once more and feints another kick before lashing out with a fist...
Punch: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14
...though Frakdar sees it coming and easily weaves out of the way.

Lol. Yah... weekends can be spotty.

As the ape steps into a flanking position, the Wasp flies into action. Two strikes - fist and knee - crash into the Garundi in rapid succession, targeting his floating rib and sternum. Float like a butterfly, sting like a ... wasp.

Then he floats into a defensive stance once more, favoring his now-bruised ribs.

In light of my impending vacation and the fact that you guys have this in hand with only three remaining foes (and the half-orc likely to be dropped by Torgus this round).
Any issues if I wrap up the last of the fight in descriptive text so as to not leave you hanging when I disappear from the DM chair?

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

Works for me, although I was going to have fun pinning the elvish wench and then try to tie her hands with her hair. Seemed like what a bald dwarf would do.

Lol. Yah, it does seem cheap to deny Frakdar after all the work he put into actually catching that chick. If he's down, then so am I, though I was gonna see if we could drag the last few opponents out a few more rounds at least. Other than that, i'm good to go. :)

Minor Crab-beast

Torgus unleashes another bonecrunching haymaker, snapping the half-orc's jaw and sending him to the deck with blood seeping from his mouth.

The halfling seeks to attack Cassadar, but a twist of the hips and use of momentum sees Cassadar send him down onto the ground. As he tries to rise, he is laid low by both Cassadar's attack and a flying ball of simian rage as Gorak charges over bellowing and batters him to unconsciousness.

Frakdar - just a rules clarification for next time. When you successfully make the check to maintain the grapple, you can choose to automatically pin. There isn't any need for a second follow-up roll.

Escape Artist to Break: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

The willowy elf tries and fails to slip the bald dwarf's swarthy grip on her, and is rewarded with an arm drawn painfully up behind her back almost to breaking.

Perception DC 15:
As the elf is obviously beyond her depth, you see the noble rise from his seat in concern.
You also spy the halfling cutpurse give a surreptitious thumbs up... as though his own mission has been successful.

The elf looks around to see her companions all laid out before her, and weakly goes limp in defeat.

So combat is now over, you have a choice as to what to do with the surrendered elf.
FYI - hair is nowhere near long enough to tie her up with it.

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

Perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

So what is a nice lass such as yourself doing in a pit with animals like these?
I indicate the bodies lying about the pit.

Sense Motice: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 <-- on her response

Minor Crab-beast

Speaking in Elvish, the elf responds belligerently "Ils ne sont plus des animaux que vous êtes nain. Vous sentez comme si vous baigne dans l'urine de ce matin." ... you sense no falsehood within her statement. I must admit I had a smile on my face when I wrote that ;)

Elvish:
"They are no more animal than you are dwarf. You smell as though you bathed in urine this morning."

Cassadar overheard and can translate for you... if you like

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

Foolish elf.

Dwarvish: Ich wunderte mich immer, wenn ich eine Elfe zu einem Knoten binden konnte. Möchten Sie mich, um zu versuchen?

Dwarvish:

I always wondered if I could tie an elf into a knot. Would you like me to try?

Minor Crab-beast

The elf looks at you blankly, clearly her study of language did not extend to the noble tongue of the dwarves.

Snickering softly, Cassadar relaxes and looks around at the fallen, hoping they were only unconscious. "She says it's.. A matter of perspective. Perhaps you should bathe."

At Frakdar's response, Cassadar looked as blank as she did, though from what he knew of the Dwarf, it was something likely threatening and antagonistic-- not that he could really blame him. Curious, Cassadar approached, and spoke to her in the common tongue. "Where did you learn to fight?"

Minor Crab-beast

As the group basks in their success, you slowly become more aware of the cheering of the crowd above. Though they don't go so far as to shower you with money, there is a tangible sense that the pit-fight was much enjoyed by those watching within the crowd. The click clack of a winch can be heard raising a portcullis on one side of the pit.

The elf gives Cassadar a defiant look and refuses to speak. Although clearly your group defeated her today, she retains her hubris.

There will be attendants entering the pit in about thirty seconds or so, so if there's any actions you'd like to take please make 'em known.
Frakdar - if you wanted, you could still take a combat action against the elf... just making it known.

Male Human (Kellid) Brawler(fighter):3/Urban Barbarian:2

Torgus raises his arms high into the air, "THE BRAWLING BEAR IS VICTOROUS! ALL YOU SIMPLE FOLK BASK IN THE GREATNESS OF THE CHAMPION OF BALLENWOOD!" with that shout Torgus lets out a roar along side a strut like a dance of him being hunched over into a howling motion. Yes this is one of his many victory dances. He looks down at the orc then looks to the crowd, "DO I GET TO KEEP THE SHEILD? BWHAHAHA!"

Minor Crab-beast

As Torgus looks into the crowd he sees a lady who is obviously infatuated with his hirsute manliness. Her cleft palate quivers with excitement and hairy armpits can be seen as she waves frantically attempting to get the attention of the MASTER OF THE ORKEN SHIELD. Catching what she obviously thought was a eye to eye glance from her new beau she wavers in place before throwing a manly hand to her brow and fainting where she stands. ;)

Perception DC 151d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26.

HA! A hottie to match Torgar's awesomeness! Well-played, Voice. :)

Javi makes eye contact with the little halfling thief for a moment to make sure he knows the message was received, then does his best to shrink back into the group... letting others take the credit for the fight.

He whispers for his crew, "So what now? Should I go try to collect our winnings?"

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

Do I get to take the elf with me? I think she would look great on my trophy shelf, on the lower level.

After giving the elf's arm one more yank.

Maintain Grapple: 1d20 + 9 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 5 = 22 <-- (vs -4 to AC and no dec bonus from pinned)

I reposition her and force her to the ground and call to the crowd.

I would take my prize home. But this elf looks too frail to last the night.

I then release her, stand up and dust my hands off.

M Half Orc Druid 5 (Feral Warrior)

Gorak will shift back to his human form, pull out a wand, and proceed to heal himself and friends as needed.

It's a Cure Light wounds d8+1 wand. If you need healing just roll and I'll deduct the charges.

GOrak heal self 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Minor Crab-beast

Released by Frakdar, the elf does not pause long in the ring. When the exit gate is opened, she slides through and rejoins her noble beau. Once they are re-united she leaves his him back upstairs.

Halfling slave attendants make their way onto the sand to remove the unconscious bodies, struggling with the weight of some of them. One attendant ushers you to follow him out of the arena.

HP 54/54 NL 1 :: AC 23 T 18 FF 16 :: CMD 23 :: F +8 R +12 W +4 :: Initiative +6 Perception +12 (-4 sight-based/+2 traps) :: Google Doc

Javi's down 13 hp.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

So that's 2 charges and at 28/29 hp.

Javi sucks air between gritted teeth as the tingling of Gorak's healing re-knits his ribs. He gives them a few testing pats, satisfied to feel only the ghost of pain left after the supernatural healing. He nods with a half-smile to the half-orc, "You're a handy guy to have around. Remind me to be nicer to you."

Javi sticks with the group as they follow the attendant out of the arena, giving one last look at the two fighters he'd disabled.

As Torgus see's various women faint at his preformance, "See Javi that's how you woo a woman..." The champion of Ballenwood stops as he looks to where his little friend slipped up too and seeing that he's trying to hide from the attention. The brawling bear shakes his head, "Come on friend this is the best part of the pit fight." With that Torgus will try lift his friend up in victory, and roars "LET'S HERE IT FOR JAVI THE WASP! FEAR THIS ONES STING!" The he extends his arm out to Gorak "AND FOR THIS SHIFTING MASTER THAT MATCHES THE ANIMALISTIC BRUTALITY OF THE BRAWLING BEAR, GORAK THE BEAST!!! AS WELL THE ELF THAT FLOWS SWIFTER THEN THE WINDS THEMSLEVES, CASSADAR! With that he lets out another howl of excitment, he looks to the dwarf "AND LET'S HERE IT FOR FRAKDAR STONEFIST WHO FIGHTS WELL FOR A SOBER DWARF!!" He mutters something to Javi about him to make this look good as he tosses the ninja into the air. As he throws the smaller fighter into the air he roars "OF COURSE YOU KNOW ME!!! TORGUS "THE BRAWLING BEAR" VOSS, CHAMPION OF THE BALLENWOOD AND MASTER OF ORKEN SHEILD!!!!!!" He then embraces all the cheers and will do a backflip and take a bow before he is ushered out.

The crowd shows some degree of appreciation to Torgus' boasts as the party is led back above to the staging area above. You see a half-ogre orc in chains being led into the arena for the following pit-fight.

Above you meet the fightmaster, who first ushers the bookies forward to provide your winnings to you. The fightmaster then ventures "In town long, or just passing through..."

Those who bet remind me how much they bet and which way please :)

"I travel as the wind." Gorak says in a cryptic manner.

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

Frowning - One fight is all for me.

While this encounter was entertaining, Cassadar did not want much to do with this life of fights for money and popularity. It was too contained, too still, and certainly not something that he felt he could learn from. It may have been a steady income, but an income was not something he felt that he had to earn in order to better himself. As he calmly strode from the arena, rolling his injured shoulder to make sure that he was not overly injured, he met the fightmaster's eye and shook his head.

They were here, they had a list to gather, and now they had the means to manage it. It was sufficient for him.

The other reason that he did not linger long, was that he wanted to get some space between himself and when Torgus replied, as he was remarkably loud for a dwarf.

Minor Crab-beast

At the lack of positive response to his questioning the fightmaster shrugs "Fair enough, catch" tossing a bag heavy with coin at Gorak before waving you away.

The cutpurse was to contact you again back at the decrepit house where the job was pitched

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

Lets head back and find that midget who got us into this mess.

Okay, I'm trying to go back and figure out how much Javi actually put down on the team for the bet. I had said that Javi would put half their remaining gold (given to them by the monastery instructor for the purchases on the list), but I can't seem to find on the thread how much that actually is. DM, can you help me out here?

Javi, still feeling a little jittery since the Bear decided to use him as some sort of air-borne celebration, takes the 500 gold purse, doing his best to hide and secure it on himself. He nods to Frakdar, "Good idea."

Hope everyone's having a good holiday.

Male Human (Kellid) Brawler(fighter):3/Urban Barbarian:2

Actually I am a Kellid, mwuahahha! Merry Christmas everybody from the Champion of Ballenwood!

As the pit promoter asks them if they will be around, he looks around the facility and gives a disapointed look. "I don't call the pits home anymore, its ok to visit but you were blessed to have a champion of my caliber fighting within your sandbox. BWAHAHAHHA! Do you have our champion quaters set up and ladies primed?"

Torgus never offical made the bet so I am out on that one.

Happy New Year to all :)

However when the time comes for fulfilling the order for saffron and the dyes, your pouch is getting lean. The saffron will run to 200 in gold and the dyes another 80, though there is but 30 remaining in the pouch given by the Harrower.
Let's just say you make an extra 100 off the bets, giving you 600gp before you go to meet with the cutpurse.

To Torgus' suggestion of champion's quarters "I'm sorry friend, you'll need to find your own cushion of soft flesh. My business is bound solely by the ring of the pit"

As you leave the inn, you make your way easily back to the house where you were propositioned. The door is open, and people are already present as you can both see light within as well as hear voices.
