. Javi is a daredevil and an adrenaline junky. He's competitive, brash, and has the arrogance of those lucky or gifted enough to survive lives as risky as his. He's also a mercurial little guy… quick to laugh and quick to anger. He tends toward be sarcastic and flippant. All put together, Javi can be a bit obnoxious, and grates on many people's nerves. But if you can look past all that, he's a surprisingly decent little guy. Buried under the dislike for custom and law is a nugget of a good heart… embodied by the holy symbol of Sarenrae that is buried under layers of rags and clothes. . Javi is a semi-reformed thief and budding follower of the Dawnflower. Due to some interesting circumstances from his youth, he's also an Osiriana resource for the pathfinders… when a 'certain set of skills' is necessary for the job. Full Backstory:
Like most halflings, Javi has done a lot of traveling. Some say it's in their bones. Maybe it's in those furred feet. Javi, however – despite his love of travel – often finds himself being drawn back to the steamy, often garish streets of Katepesh. Maybe it's because that's where he was born. Maybe it's because that's what he knows best. But Javi would say there's just something about the city that gets in your blood, though I'm guessing you'd have to have the same love of danger and excitement to feel the same.
Javi was born just another slum rat in the already-infested city of Katapesh. And while his size often made him the target for bullies or worse, his quick thinking, eyes, fingers, and feet kept him alive… plus some. It didn't hurt that he had enough guts to drown a camel. He picked up the moniker "the wasp" while growing up among the teams of cutpurses. He was good. Maybe not the best, but he could hold his own. And unfortunately, that was just the beginning. Like a future pesh addict getting his first taste, Javi just couldn't get enough of the adrenaline and the fun. He was quickly into heists, con jobs, roof-running, rumor-mongering… anything that promised a little fun or something new. When you've cut enough purses and lifted enough window-locks, though, you quickly realize the emptiness of seeking wealth. It can always be taken. So Javi lives for the thrill, and he lives for the moment. This is what got him in over his head, but also turned out to be his turning point. On a second-story job that he mostly took for the challenge, Javi was personally introduced to his first Pathfinder… or rather the Pathfinder was the mark. Unfortunately, the man was good. Much better than Javi expected. And Javi ended up getting caught for the first time. Something about Javi must have caught the man's attention, however, because after Javi had spent a few weeks in the death trap that is Katapesh's "jail", the man returned with an offer. It turns out the man was not only a talented local Pathfinder, but also a former criminal himself who'd reformed under the ideals of Sarenrae. For the first time in Javi's life, he had someone worthwhile to look up to. More importantly, he had someone who had invested in him in a selfless manner… not just because of what they thought they could get out of Javi. Javi's life has taken a slow turn since then. He's still an arrogant, flippant, thrill-seeking little runt, but more and more he's realizing the value of relationships and redemption. He wears his symbol of Sarenrae with an authentic—if unique—loyalty to the Dawnflower's ways. And while he keeps his skills sharp, he does his best to employ them in a manner that supports his own unique brand of "good".. which means he tries not to steal from those who don't deserve it.. or at least those that can't afford to have a little stolen. He will avoid violence if it's possible, though bullies and thugs should watch out as Javi has an understandable sympathy for the little guy. Javi has kept in touch with his pathfinder friend, but it's more than that. The pathfinder friend often recruits Javi for specific tasks… tasks that require sharp eyes, quick feet, and a willingness to see a thing done when discretion or flat-out ballsiness is necessary. And while Javi has no real desire to become a Pathfinder yet, the arrangement works very well in his opinion, and he feels good about his contribution to thier work. Javi the Wasp
