Lantern Lodge

After a previous thread it seems the majority wants a homebrew. This is something that I have been working on for about a year and is no where near complete but is ready to be started. This campaign is going to take some artistic license with the future of Golarian and will be set in the future. There will be a mix of fantasy, contemporary, pulp, horror, and sci-fi. The rules will be used but if all picked are okay with it some houserules will be used that may be a little different from the standard game. Balance is important as is well rounded characters.

Unfortunately I do not have time until sunday to write out the fluff for the introduction for characters to know where to start. So the best I can describe is mix cthulhutech and shadowrun and set it in the Pathfinder system and you will get an idea of where I want to start.

The application I would like to see characters with:
all "0" level races are allowed.
15 pt buy
Absolutely no CE or NE characters
2 traits (for now)
wealth is rolled
only the dreamscarred press psionics rules will be allowed as 3PP material.
All Pathfinder RPG material can be used (No 3.5)

I would like to see a sample of your character in writing. Because this is a homebrew It will have ample opportunity for character exploration so I would like more indepth backgrounds if you are one of the 4-6 applicants accepted.

Lastly, I'd like to reiterate, fluff will come on sunday with some major setting changes such as more gods who have passed and the house of thrune expanding their territories.

I will leave recruitment open until midnight (EST) next Friday (March 16th).

DaWay - do you have a fixed idea for how the various cultures have advanced over the time period, or are you open to some interpretation?

Specifically I'm thinking of the Mwangi expanse - has it been levelled, or do the deep dark jungles remain?

Have the mwangi cast off their shamanistic roots, or have they sunk deeper into them?

If you're open to player stated interpretations, then I'll let it boggle around in my noggin and see what falls out ;)

Liberty's Edge

DaWay:
I'm not saying otherwise (or complaining) - just curious. Is there a reason Neutral Evil characters aren't allowed? Is it because you fear they won't be able to cooperate with the rest of the party, or because you feel that they would present more problems for societal engagement, or is there some other reason? I would think that Chaotic Neutral characters could present more problems than Neutral Evil, but again, I'm just curious. I've been playing for 16 years, so any insights you would like to present for your decisions will be gratefully accepted.

Lantern Lodge

Mark, A little of both to tell you the truth but I am open to some interpretation.

The Mwangi expanse has not been leveled. The Deep Dark Jungles remain. Most have sunk into their shamanistic roots however they are still valued. Because of the existence of magic, medicine has fallen behind. The city sprawl has increased. And there is mass transit available. As far as the Shamanistic roots, the Wendo have started gaining a stronger role in popular culture, so the Wendifa have gained stronger political clout.

DaWay:
Sorry for the bombardment, but a few more questions:
1) Does the Island of Hermea still survive? - and is it still a haven for the 'special'?
2) Is the Worldwound still open?
3) Any significant differences in the Mana Wastes?

Lantern Lodge

stardust-I disallow NE because they are disruptive to a group, ultimately I feel as if CN can function in a party well because it will benefit them. Socially, they may present a couple problems for what I want in the story. They also will be able to worship, the old gods, and in this story they will be major antagonists. While the same can be said about CN I generally feel they will try and keep it a secret in order to stay alive. I want to create some element of fear as well.

It should be noted while many GMs are opposed to PvP, I am not. Dissention among the ranks happens. People come to blows with their best friends. Stuff happens and then you grab a beer.

Lantern Lodge

mark-1) haven't thought about hermea, I have an idea that it does exist but is not a haven for the special, but if a better idea is suggested I am open to changing.

2)The Worldwound is definately still open.

3)The Mana Wastes have become a major world power, much like an arms dealer who deals to both sides. However, they are deeply preoccupied with Nex and Geb.

Liberty's Edge

DaWay:
Ah, okay. Well I guess that makes sense. I guess my Cultist idea is out then, although he could be more Neutral now than Neutral Evil (or perhaps learning to be). Sigh.. I never get to play a Cultist. I don't think the Old Gods care either way who serves them... But is summoning creatures from the Dark Tapestry a chaotic act? If so, it would be difficult to play a Neutral character for very long.

Lantern Lodge

also LE can function extremely well in a group because it benefits them, much in the same way CN characters do.

Liberty's Edge

I had come up with a character idea on the other thread, but that doesn't seem to be suitable now... Have to think a bit now...

Lantern Lodge

stardust-you can play someone who is interested in researching the old gods and we can explore his descent into madness. I have no problem with characters becoming evil, just a problem with them starting evil. So you can play a very similar character.

In fact I have thought of a way to get you and Enaris' characters together at the start.

Okay, I'm just trying to reconfigure the character concept so he's either neutral or chaotic neutral when we start. Perhaps he was born evil, and gradually came to be more neutral, especially the more independent he became. Being the child of some strange cult ritual seems pretty cool, though... :)

However, he still feels compelled to follow the calling towards Chaos, so if that's acceptable, I think I can still make it work with my character concept.

So I see this character as an internal conflict between a purely chaotic bent and independence (i.e. neutrality), starting as either Neutral or Chaotic Neutral, would that be both a) okay for the purposes of the game, and b) believable?

Xzavier - for what it's worth a few of the Great Old Ones in Pathfinder are actually CN. Specifically Azathoth, Bokrug, Mhar, and Yog-Sothoth.

Do you have Faiths of Corruption? - if not then I can spoiler out the details of the deity of your choice.

Nope, don't have that one yet. Wish I did though. I'm still saving up for the Books of the Damned I need for a game I'm DMing. I am reluctant to start as Chaotic Neutral because I generally see high levels of Chaos (i.e. disorganization) as being detrimental to intelligence and the ability to act reasonably... lol. (both as a character and as a player, perhaps this is where my alignment conundrum lies)

In either case, Neutral is one step away from Chaotic Neutral. (And I'm wondering how a Chaotic Good person could serve the Old Ones, but they probably have strange devices for all of their servants to follow.)

Is a Qlippoth-spawn Tiefling (with the Fiendish Heritage feat) still acceptable? Or should I rethink that part as well.

I am also not sure which of the Great Old Ones I would serve... I'm not feeling drawn towards any particular one of them, but perhaps I could serve their interests as a whole (at least until they need to fight with one another)

And would the Cleric (Evangelist archetype) be acceptable?

Alignment-wise, I'm thinking of being Neutral (with Chaotic Neutral tendencies/inner conflict), so that removes the Evil from the proposition. I'll come up with a full stat block in a little bit. :)

Azathoth:
The Daemon Sultan Azathoth is a gibbering mass at the center of the universe, and is a being of raw power and uncontrollable destruction. When you worship this Outer God, you take the chance that your every calling will result in a surge of devastating power, but your hubris is often such that you believe that you (of all those who have ever called upon him) can control it. His alignment is chaotic neutral; his domains are Chaos, Destruction, Madness, Sun, and Void; and his favored weapon is the warhammer.

Bokrug:
The worship of the Great Old One Bokrug comes from dreamers infected by his spawn. You are a rural type, perhaps originally a worshiper of Erastil, but your eyes have been opened and you now see the truth. You are closemouthed and secretive, and on the dark nights you snatch travelers for sacrifice—or to carry his dark seed to sprout in a new location. His alignment is chaotic neutral; his domains are Chaos, Destruction, Water, and Weather; and his favored weapon is the ranseur.

Mhar:
Mhar, the World Thunder, is a Great Old One of pure elemental destruction. If you worship it, you gather near volcanic vents and seismically active rifts, hoping to spark geological events by spell, device, and living sacrifice. One day, you are sure, you can force open the proper vent and watch your great god emerge from the void where its essence still hangs. You compete with the worshipers of Rovagug for prime spaces here, for though you both seek destruction, you believe that the followers of the Beast are myopic and brutish. Mhar’s alignment is chaotic neutral; his domains are Chaos, Destruction, Earth, and Fire; and his favored weapon is the heavy pick.

Yog-Sothoth:
The Lurker at the Threshold, Yog-Sothoth, is a great power indeed. You believe that it may be the Dark Tapestry itself, that its favor will grant you near-godlike power, and that its increasing intrusions into your world are a sign that it is at last stirring from its torpor to take an active interest in Golarion. You work to create abominations, whether through spell or prayer, and infect pregnant women with poison and disease so they give birth to monstrosities. When they cast these creatures out, you snatch them and use them to create still more horrifying lives that will open the door to their father, the Outer God known as the Key and the Gate. Yog-Sothoth’s alignment is chaotic neutral; its domains are Chaos, Darkness, Knowledge, Travel, and Void; and its favored weapon is the dagger.

Grand Lodge

I want to do a wizard/psion/cerebramancer build. I'll figure it out this weekend if that's acceptable and your not full. I see these games fill up so fast I'd rather ask, I've tried to get in to quite a few PBP, and the time involved in trying to get in and character creation gets pretty crazy.

How do you feel about item creation feats, magic and psionics working together?

Liberty's Edge

For Variant Tiefling Abilities (If Allowed):

1d100 ⇒ 54
1d100 ⇒ 3
1d100 ⇒ 62

For Wealth:

4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 1, 6) = 17 x10 = 170 gp

I am fine with everything.

Fair warning, fairly given don't expect me to take it easy on you with this concept. There will be responses to how everything comes to fruition if this character is played.

Btw item creation feats are fine. As is psionics. Working with both together I want to do something special ... Since both are pulling in raw creation stuff from the world one being more disciplined and the other more raw, arcane and psionics. But we can discuss this at a later time.

Lantern Lodge

Please note that the gold pieces will represent an abstract value of wealth.

DaWay - current thoughts are a Mwangi Psychic Warrior (probably feral path) who has been tasked to emerge from the deepest jungle to undertake a vision quest / walkabout / grew curious about the outside world. So very low tech, tribal character with the psionic abilities flavored more as a communion with his ancestors / channeling the natural world.

Where in Golarion does he need to be to start off with? - that will help with framing a decent story as to how he got from the Mwangi to there.

Lantern Lodge

I have a couple of places in mind one is the mawangi expanse. Others are ustalav, cheliax, and linnorm. I will bring everyone together. You may start where you wish. However if you do not weave backgrounds together I have a slew of NPCs ready to help with this story.

Lantern Lodge

Also katapesh is a starting location

DaWay - I'll have the backstory lead up to him leaving the Expanse, then (if he makes it in) the tail end can be weaved any which way to tally up with the preferred start location and the other characters. Hopefully will have something up over the weekend for your perusal.

Lantern Lodge

It should be noted this game is intended with mostly good characters in mind.

IS a pre loremaster welcome in this game?
How do you feel about the forgery skill? I would like to experiment with it. I would not use it against the party.

Lantern Lodge

I believe forgery could be covered under the linguistics skill or a proper choice of craft.
Do you mean the loremaster prestige class? If so, that is fine.

Sovereign Court

I'll have to rework Kalf's backstory to fit the setting, but that shouldn't be too hard, since most of the details I just shove on you bwahaha.
Kalf's not exactly the save the world type, since he hates humanity as a whole, AND hates his people. Given the choice I'm not sure he wouldn't just end it.
There's also Contrifesgal Coppercog Spligarvast, my gnomish cleric of brigh, who's trying to prove magic doesn't exist, only physics and mathematics.
I guess I'll just submit a few concepts and we'll figure out somewhere down the line if you'd rather I play here or in JR.

I would like to submit this character. She would need a little reworking but already has ties to Ustalav so we're good from that aspect. Going to be hard to get her to work with a 15 point build but I'm up to the challenge.

Lantern Lodge

Wow Mathpro we just keep crossing each others paths.

There are going to be some significant changes. When I get the chance tonight I will post one or two of the changes I am making for this campaign as a teaser in the discussion forum. It is mainly a large collection of thoughts that I will attempt to make grammatically correct.

I'm actually liking the idea of Katapesh, myself. But I'll see where others want to come from first. (it's the difference between starting with a hot weather outfit or an explorer's outfit)

Grand Lodge

Alright, I will submit him sometime tomorrow, I have a wedding today, so don't really have time today.

I plan on making him a blue - not sure if I'll start with wizard or psion. I plan on taking a lot of item creation feats to aid the party.
Wizard - Conjuration
Psion - Seer

Combat wise he will be mostly buff/battlefield control with some debuff thrown in there.

So is this Golarion still? I'm not to familiar with the world, most the games I've played are home brew worlds, so if my backstory needs some editing I'll be fine with that.

Thanks.

Actually I am going to have to bow out with her but might resubmit something different...we'll see.

I have a stat block on my profile, along with some interesting reading regarding Xzavier's philosophum rhetoricus. (Definitely got some good ideas from researching the qliphah of Kabalistic magic.)

Rolling for alternative tiefling features. The horned look just isn't doing it for me.

1d100 ⇒ 46
1d100 ⇒ 76
1d100 ⇒ 93

Will post more tonight about background, personality, or perhaps just roleplaying him in general to give you a feel for the character.

Backwards-bending legs, hmmm... Somewhat easily disguised by a robe, so I kind of like that.

I did mean the loreclass prestige type.

Preliminary character concept, TN wizard, female, slave that was a sole survivor or some sort of raid. So not runaway, but no one has legal ownership. Likes to not be noticed. Hides her bodyshape? Was told she could write her ticket, so she did. wrote a letter of recomendeation to wizard for herseld. Let the DM decide if caught.
First time i have done this, (PB-internet) Does DM decide gold?

Lantern Lodge

Use the boar roller for gold.

DaWay wrote:

uhm....

Okay, what is that?

Lantern Lodge

Type [dice]1d20+4[/dice

For what ever dice you want substitute so instead of 1d20 it could be 3d6 and the close with another ]

@ Robodruida, you need to close the tag

(without the spaces) [ dice ] 1d20 + 4 [ / Dice ]

If you need extra help with the tagging, take a look at the "How to Format your text" below the text entry thing

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Thank you. new to PB-internet.

Liberty's Edge

Yep, but Wizard's start with 2d6 x 10 gp. So you'd need to roll the 2d6 as dice.

Liberty's Edge

Without the x 10... Just roll 2d6 and put an 0 on the end of what you roll. :)

And I think DaWay meant board roller, instead of boar roller. :)

heh, that wont work
dice
2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5

5*10=50 GP starting wealth.
:)

Lantern Lodge

Hey now most my posts are from my iPhone.

Liberty's Edge

Said in humor, intended as humor. :P

still looking for a rouge deway i will still be saying a knife master cause there are so cool however its not jon kull it is a half elf that is very mobile on the battle field and will be using disguise and bluff to get close to the targets if permitting

Lantern Lodge

just keep in mind yes there will be combat but this will be more RP focused. I am putting this campaign on the boards for several reasons. 1. The boards lend themselves to RP more than hack and slash
2. I am at a very busy point in my life and cannot afford to offer the time per week that it requires to do tabletop but I have high hopes and standards for this game and expect it from the players as well as myself.
If you are going to play a combat oriented character please keep this in mind. With that said I would love to see some monks and bards.

Lantern Lodge
