Hello all, I desire to run another game. My previous game has concluded and I am looking to run another.
flykiller pointed out on another thread that those of us that have been in a few games should run some to return the favor. The ratio is not important, though 2:1 or 3:1 was suggested, and I decided to adopt the idea.

Now, that said, what I am looking for is that those that are interested work together with two other individuals that are interested to come up with a good backstory for the three of you. I will only be taking trio submissions, and for the initial accepting I will only be accepting one trio.

For the submissions, the setting is pretty malleable. I'm adaptable, and have the time to make at least a post a day, and manage maybe one or two more, depending on the urgency, though a post a day is what I will strive for. In the event something delays me, I'll at least post in the discussion thread.

There is some game information below, but please, post your interest, and start the search for other partners. If you intend to converse at length, please PM each other. Players of all shades of experience are welcome. If you are paired, please mention it so that others do not spend more time looking than they need. I look forward to seeing what comes, so please, show me your fluff!

...That declaration still sounds a bit silly, but I like it.

Initial Game Info:

• Gestalt is not allowed.
• The setting will be Golarion, and all Pathfinder material is acceptable. as well as Dreamscarred Press' "Path of War" and "Path of War Expanded". However, if you build an undefeatable team, or unbeatable creation, the fun ends, and I will end the game with a hand wave and an epilogue.
• I would prefer a majority of "Path of War" characters in the trio.
• Where in Golarion is dependent on the trio, as is the goal.
• I want to help write a story and create characters that are memorable, not provide an example for your number-crunching.

This sounds interesting. Though the idea that interest me the most is one I imagine might dissuade most people. That idea is a three people all in a romantic relationship with each other. Perhaps that's why they are out adventuring in the first place, they got thrown out of their village when people discovered?

If no one are willing to bite on the above idea, I would be willing to look at other options. A trio of siblings could work well for this for example.

For ideas about where the roleplay will take place and what it'll contain, I'm open. Perhaps the trio will be from a Shoanti tribe and first flee from their kinsmen only to return to protect them from the orcs and giants threatening to invade. Perhaps slavers in Andoran is only the first step in a coming invasion from Cheliax?

For class, I'm unsure. A warlord wielding a large bastard sword could be fun. A two weapon fighting dervish defender, a hidden blade rogue, a bladecaster and a polymath alchemist are other things I've been wanting to try.

What level do you want us to start at? Some concepts, particularly multiclass and prestige class ones, work best with a few levels under their belt.

The siblings idea is cool, although it kind of restricts the races a little bit. The romance idea I don't like much. Three siblings or friends with very different personalities would be cool - like Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas, or the trio from War in the North. :)

I like that second idea a lot - especially the version that has us be 'friends forged in fire' as it were.

Personally, I'd like to do something that uses the Veiled Moon discipline, which class I'd use I don't know.

Dotting. I love this concept. The idea to focus on a trio of individuals as a core concept is kind of fascinating. Whether it be siblings, romantic partners, Same tribe, colleagues from an academy, or chain gang.

I have a Warder concept that I'd love to play a Dervish utilizing two Earth Breakers but flavoring them as massive gauntlets, ie Hellboy or VI from LOL.

Im very open to any ideas and joininng up with anyone willing.

How do you manage to wield two earth breakers? And isn't the Fiendbound Marauder exactly what you describe? Sadly the archetype doesn't stack with dervish defender. I'm glad someone isn't rejecting my initial idea outright at least.

Grand Lodge

Are you ok with the Medic Class from DSP?

@oyzar

Im not against your idea at all! Its kind of intriguing and deals with an area rarely covered in media of any kind.
And this is just the eventual build off the top of my head.

Twin guantlet build:
]Human Dervish Defender Warder 4/Aegis 2 if you want to use tower shields/Dragon Fury X
Traits: Practiced Initiator Unorthodox Method(Swap Golden Lion with Iron Tortoise again).

Human Bonus Feat:Prodigious Two Weapon Fighting(Allows you to use Strength for Dex prerequisites in TWF)
Stupendous Strength(Treat 1 handed Weapons as light weapons, 2 handed as one handed. If you have prodigious TWF you can now treat 2 handed weapons as light weapons for the purpose of TWF) You can also treat tower shields as heavy shields for shield bashing and not take the -2 penalty to attack for holding one)

Bonus Feat from Warder(Dervish Defender) is Two Weapon Fighting.

At level 1 you can dual wield earth breakers as light weapons, fluff them as battle gauntlets(both deal bludgeoning, not a big deal). You lose proficiency with shields, but you lose access to Dervish Defense(Int to AC when in Light Armor and TWFing).

A very good point and arguably more accurate to the concept in my head. I am not at all opposed to utilizing the Fiendish Maurader , especially if the DM doesnt care for refluffing.

What's the source on Stupendous Strength?

@Burnscar

I believe its from Dream Scarred Press: Monster Classes.

Thanks!

I am not familiar. *Tests Search-Fu* I've located a document for it, though whether or not it is the official release, I do not know upon cursory glance.

For everyone else, I wish to point out that regardless of what your classes will be (and how they will function), I am looking for the story to drive that motivation. So all I am looking for is Fluff over Crunch right now. I am not even going to ask for Crunch until after I have selected the trio, as the Character Generation criteria will be given in the Discussion forum.

So, much like my previous game, sell me on your story first.

Cool. I'll just ask one thing, is this a high, low, or midlevel game?

As of yet, undetermined. I can certainly say that this will not start out at high-level at least. The rest is dependent on the story.

I'm interested and on the boards a lot posting around 10 times a day or so if anyone wants to come up with a story together.

Another idea for a trio: we've been all imprisoned together and escaped - no matter if innocent or guilty, we bound on this experience and now we stick together as siblings. :) anyone likes it and wants to try to scribe something with me on these lines?

So are you expecting players to form trios before applying?

@The Pale King: You have to apply with a shared story/background/idea so you kinda do need to form up teams beforehand.

I see. Well I don't know if anyone would be in for creating a trio with me, but I have an idea for a backstory I would like to add:

I think it could be fun to have a trio who are mercenaries or takers of odd jobs or adventurers, however you'd like to flavour it. Each of them operates on their own but in the same circles, so they know of the others and have occasionally been stuck on jobs together or maybe even had to face each other under opposing interests. They each actively dislike the others. Now they are stuck together on a high paying, risky venture that may just break down the walls and bring them together as partners and the best of companions.

Think of the prequel books of the Riyria Revelations, when Hadrian and Royce hated each other. Yet in the main series they are best friends who would die for each other.

Grand Lodge

I have like the idea of the Medic from DSP for a while and since they have no other healer I would be willing to join a trio

I had an idea for a trio once. One that explored the differences between the different good alignments, Lawful, Neutral and Chaotic. They were a brother, sister and their friend, orphaned at a young age in a city corrupt to its core. The brother and sister were Lawful and Neutral respectively. They wanted to change the system from the inside be changing the rules while their friend wanted to join a resistance and bring it all down. We could do something like that.

Other idea. I like the siblings idea too but how about all halflings and all Bellflowers. They work under the oppressive regime of Cheliax to free their kin from the bonds of slavery. I call the tank. Had an idea for a while for a halfling brawler/martial artist. It revolved around Harder They Fall teamwork feat which would allow him to trip foes many times larger than himself, and at later levels, even throw them.

If anyone needs a timeframe, I'll start looking at the submissions as they start rolling in, but I'll (probably) be looking to make a decision at the end of the month. The holidays make things crazy.

Sczarni

There's also the Godlings, those descended from Gods, like Heracles. They come in different flavor, aren't race restricted, and have a very easy connection and open backstory.

Though the merc backstory could develop into a Cowboy Bebop kinda scenario. Which would be pretty cool.

I'm up for the merc story with three friends - recently released from jail, where they met, or some other condition. Anyone wanna partner?

Sczarni

I'll partner up with the merc idea. I did something similar in a home game, but the other three were vikings and I was the mercenary. And, and I'm very excited for Path of War stuff. From what I've played, its a wonderful system that makes my fighter just as cool as the wizard.

I would love being the third partner in that one. And Path of War really is a lovely subsystem.

Grand Lodge

We could go with ex Military members who either just quit or left.

This sounds *super* interesting, and I would be totally down to join any number of the above trios. The only one I am against is the trio of romantics, but that's only because I prefer relationships between players to grow organically in game.

Is anyone interested in my idea of odd job taking adventurers who happen to dislike each other getting pushed together into a job that will in turn push them into eventual camaraderie?

I will join you, I like the idea.

Honestly, that sounds like the beginning of every module. Besides, the character I have my heart set on, since he has never been accepted in a game, wouldn't hate anyone outright. Too happy an individual. Or at least I can't picture the situation. I wouldn't mind storyboarding a bit to see what happens since no one commented on my ideas.

Sczarni

The Chess, I, and Burnscar have a submission right

here:
Sloan Rybar was from an immigrant family, but knew the ways of ambushing prey and hunting like no other. So he offered his skills to the local lord, who was a small time noble. Being accepted, he worked to feed his family.

But then bandits came and threatened the local noble house. They named the lord a coward and the lord's pride wouldn't stand for such insults. So he gathered what men he could, Sloan included, and foolishly charged into the bandit camp. He was captured and Sloan escaped.

Technically out of a job, his family became ill with their slow starvation. Losing his parents to the common cold, he became an adventurer. And was found by a recruiter of the Lords of the Wheel while hunting in the cold, mountain air.

He lived for the Lords, passing their trials with the utmost faith. Willing to commit himself to their goal wholeheartedly, he was slowly moved into the internal affairs as a man who only cared for the goal and could do away with most of those that upset the balance of things.
He now operates in a mercenary company called the Wolves of Erhearth as an undercover Solstice Lord, handling the group's foreign connections.

And then, in a little city-state called Marienburg, there was a local overlord who was spreading chaos through his hate speeches on other races. He was raising taxes to incredible, back-breaking amounts to fill his own wallet, threatening war on all of his peaceful neighbors.

The Wolves might have been led there by the trio of Solstice lords to see if they could secure a deal with this tyrant's enemies. But a fight broke out between the citizens and the guards, and the Wolves became involved.

Most of the Wolves were jailed, including the Solstice lords, under the pretense of trying to perform a coup (which wasn't a bad idea at all) and working against the city-state itself (which only included the tyrant).

The first half is my character's personal background, and the second is our trio submission.

Also for reference, this is the 'organization' we're basing our thing on.

Noted. Next organizational post will come Monday.

How's everyone else doing?

@Pale King and Raltus

Had an idea for a new character that would mesh well and maybe the beginning of the group. I was thinking of going the exact opposite direction of the confirmed group but using Pale King's original idea. We could still be from opposing mercenary groups but either adding or replacing it with being from different Martial Traditions. There is one for each main discipline. This works well for a character I forgot about. He's a two-weapon crit fisher. I think Harbinger and Dragon Fury would suit him well and will be from the Crashing Tempest Academy. Being from different schools would give is something to clash on. It also might give us some overlapping disciplines in which to bond over. For instance, Harbinger could possibly share Riven Hourglass and Veiled Moon with a Stalker.

Grand Lodge

I was looking at using the Medic class, they fit well with a ranged build and I can do some healing in and out of combat at needed. I am down for you Idea Zayne.

That should fit well with two headstrong combatants. The glue that keeps them together sort. Would you be willing to pick a martial tradition? Wayward Path looks good for that character. Heal, synergy and movement abilities to got in and out of combat with Veiled Moon maneuvers. Or The Sultanate of Beggars. Already have broken blade but they are an altruistic sort. Or even the Scarlet Sentinels.

I like the idea Zayne. Conflicting philosophies and school pride makes for interesting relationship dynamics. Martial schools that hire out their students and masters for jobs makes sense as well. I'll have to look into the Martial Traditions.

Another thought. Restov is known for its many sword fighting schools. Granted they are mostly Aldori and Taldan, usually single sword dueling styles. But it seems like a good place for some Path of War schools. I am not saying we should do the Kingmaker campaign either but being close to its starting point gives us a lot of options. The whole point of the campaign into the Stolenlands was to give Rostland, the southern part of Brevoy, an ally in the south. The were preparing incase of civil war with the the northern half of Brevoy. So the story could start with some Mercenary contracts in the south and move towards the civil war. Maybe a long contract to start off with to force us into working together.

Grand Lodge

Since we are starting at level 1 we are new recruits of rival merc bands, and they are sending us out for blooding. We are told to protect the others who go but not to become friends since (insert x reason here)

No starting level was given. But that will work. Crashing Tempest students are encouraged to take up challenges. Joining a mercenary group and getting a high rank would probably qualify. You guys picked schools yet?

Grand Lodge

NO I will look into it more after work

This is a super interesting idea. Going to toss my hat into the ring as an available player to form backstories with. I'm not as into the romantic trio concept, but any of the others are things I can definitely work with.

Yorick, the individuals that have not commented on forming a team are:

(If any of you are still interested, please post to let anyone else checking in to know who is still viable, please.)

Confirmed Groups:
• Crayfish Hora, The Chess, Burnscar
• Zayne Iwatani, The Pale King, Raltus

I'll start considering groups next week, with confirmation likely to be given on the weekend. There's still time to polish up anything you're uncertain on, or ask some questions in regards to anything you're uncertain on.

For anyone else happening across this, there's still time to pitch an idea to see if anyone else is interested, as of this posting, there's five others that are still looking.

If I don't hear back from my group by Wednesday I'll have to form a new one. I created a new discussion thread to work things out so as not to clutter this one and haven't heard back since last Wed.

I'm still interested if that should happen (I quite like the mercenaries idea), so give a shout if that should happen. Otherwise I'll see if anyone else is still interested. I like the idea of another discussion thread for working things out.
