You all have received missives to The Grand Lodge itself, and you work your way deep down into its basements to a meeting room, where you are asked to wait. Basic refreshments are available, but it's hard to escape the oppressive atmosphere... unless you're a dwarf, then it feels positively homey. But even then there is a distinct tension in the air as your fellow pathfinders join you, waiting to be summoned by the Grand Master of Scrolls.

Feel free to dot in and character build. Have fun!

Ducking under the door frame, the large, bald northman enters the room. He bears extensive runic facial tattoos and heavy woad on the lower part of his jaw and down his neck. He wears a fur collared cloak with a silvery metal breast plate, leaving his thick arms free of encumberance, and his simple yet sturdy cloth breaches are tucked into his heavy leather boots.

Resting on his right shoulder is a massive metal earthbreaker and in his left hand he carries a large metal tankard.

Despite his menacing appearance his smile is wide and his eyes practically dance with amusement as he greets his fellow pathfinders.

"HELLO THERE FRIENDS!" he booms! As he looks around, he notices there is no one else there...

"Well my friend, it looks like it is just the two of us. Whatever shall we do to pass the time!?!", he says bemusedly, hoisting up his tankard.

"HA! You are a clever one. I was thinking the very same thing!", and he takes a small ceramic flask from a satchel at his hip and somehow fills his tankard to the brim. He quickly stoppers the flask and returns it to the satchel before taking his first swallow.

"I suppose we can sit while we wait. It may be awhile." and he does just that, setting his weapon down next to him and propping his feet up on a nearby chair for comfort.

Walking down the steps into the basement, Fendel reminisces about all the time he spent researching down in the 'Stacks' during his training. He is shaken out of his revere by a thunderous yell and ensuing one sided conversation.

The detective quickly starts to pull information together. Accent marks him as a Northerner, high percent chance from the Linnorm Kings. Echo off the walls puts him over six feet. Odds are that he is some form of marshal specialist. Is he speaking to a familiar? Perhaps he is some sort of occultist. Given the superstitious nature of the culture, it would be reason enough to force him into seeking solace to the South. Perhaps he is simply addle-minded and speaking to an inanimate object.

The dark-haired human walks in and surveys the room with ice blue eye, quickly confirming one of his early hypotheses. Addle-minded. Scars mark his years of combat; if that weapon is any indication, he has access to magic enhanced strength or has other blood running through his veins.

The detective's fine chain shirt is practically invisible under his gray tunic. He nods to the huge Ulfen before finding a seat. With regular ease, he sets his pack down and pull out several tomes and places them within easy reach.

"Well met. I don't suppose you have a familiar or other companion? Forgive me for not speaking Skald, but I have been focused on planar languages of late. I am Fendel Meniska. It seems likely we will be spending time together in whichever locale we are to be dispatched."

After a moment he continues, still smiling broadly, "If you heard me talking before, that was just me having some fun. We can't all be serious all the time. When the time comes to be serious though..." and his eyes take on a menacing gleam, "...I can get serious."

Then relaxing, he tosses his head back with a laugh, "But that's for later. Now, how about sharing a drink. I have a wonderful sake if want some. It's pretty strong though, so if you prefer I have a nice Alkenstar ice wine or a full bodied Chelish red. Which will it be?"

"Skald er lett å snakke" Braxus says with thickly accented words, and then more slowly he translates in common..."Skald is easy to speak."

The two spend the next little while learning basic words used in greetings, goodbyes, combat and important information gathering such as how much for a bottle of wine...

Eventually the conversation turns to why they are there. "I heard we 're looking to help out Mendev somehow. I've not heard anything solid, but if it's got anything to do with Mendev, you can bet there'll be demons to crush. That's something I'm very familiar with." he says with a grim look.

"But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We can wait till the VC gives us the what's what." and as the grim look disappears his easy going smile returns, and he almost beams as he says, "In better news, I heard an old friend of mine, Dailung, will be joining us on this mission. Knight Captain Dailung is a tiny young woman of great beauty, about 4`7`` with maybe 95 pounds. In her human form she has long blond hairs with emerald green eyes of Taldorian origin. In her true form she has rustred hair. Usually she wears revealing clothes that do not hinder her movements of light colours with the insignie of a Captain of the eagle knights and a beautiful embroided rune cloak of saphire and gold. On a mission she wears a light chainshirt of finest mithral for protection and for weapons a longsword and a scimitar of mithral.
In a beautiful singsang voice she greets Braxus.
"Hello, big fellow. Haven´t seen you since the Hellknights feast! Your muscles did indeed expand. You must have missed me!"

The North is haunting me for certain! Braxus thinks to him self as the Hell Knight approaches and he first catches sight of her white hair. His friendly expression flickers for a moment as his eyes first show surprise then shift to suspicion before finally settling to a resigned acceptance.

Lore makes her way down into the depths under the Grand Lodge with some trepidation. Not that she dislikes being underground that much, just that this place gives her the willies... far too much time spent here alone doing research and filing reports. Creepy place to be alone in.

When she hears voices murmuring from a distance, her mood picks up a little. At least there will be others here. That will relieve some of the gloom of this place

She makes no attempt to be silent as she approaches the room, but she does pause outside to check her appearance and gear, then pokes her head in the door.

A shock of long purple hair frames a pretty face about 3 feet off the ground, followed by the gnomish female that goes with them. After checking out the other occupants of the room for a moment, she practically skips into the room, her gold-washed mithril chain mail chinging merrily as she does so.

Alright, we'll get this game officially going with Pandora checking in, but I'll go ahead and get the ball rolling. Best of luck victi.... I mean players. :)

Soon enough, the team is called into another room, where the Master of Spells Aram Zey waits in a deep subbasement of the Grand Lodge, where he scowls as another group of Pathfinder agents walks into a door-sized tapestry of intricately woven but badly frayed cloth. As the last agent’s foot disappears into the Hao Jin Tapestry, Aram Zey snaps a quick order for his assistants to reconfigure the tapestry for Kyonin before turning his eyes—weary and bloodshot from long hours of work—to you.

“Pathfinders, let’s keep this brief. That was the seventeenth group it has been my grueling duty to send through the tapestry today, and words cannot express my inordinate pleasure at understanding there will be an eighteenth,” he growls through the gritted teeth of a forced smile.

“Nonetheless, this mission is an important one, and the society has few others who are cut out to handle the task.” He pauses to take several deep breaths, which do much to alleviate his sour mood.

“One of my colleagues, Venture-Captain Varian Jeggare, spent a considerable amount of time in Kyonin, and in doing so he performed a considerable service for Queen Telandia Edasseril. She owes him a considerable favor in return, and he was gracious enough to use it for the society’s benefit. Jeggare is busy elsewhere, so he cannot deliver the message himself. Instead he wrote out a formal request and letter of introductionfor all of you. It seems he thinks you would represent the society well in playing messenger,”

Zey explains before adding under his breath, “and to his credit I can imagine worse ambassadors.

“As you can see, the letter is sealed, and it should remain so until you meet General Theila Tenasi and give it to her. In effect, it requests that she provide the Pathfinder Society a contingent of rangers specialized in hunting demons to assist us as we make our way to Jormurdun. So, that’s your mission: Go to Kyonin, meet with the general, and make sure the elves don’t back out of this favor. We have a contact in Greengold who can secure you quick passage back to Absalom or anywhere else you need to go afterward. You’ll be taking the Tapestry to reach Kyonin, and Kreighton Shaine has already contacted the elves to let them know to expect you. Any questions?”

Lore pouts a little then brightens again... "It's okay if you don't remember me much... you were mostly dead at the time we last saw each other. But we've been through so much together, Aram... Other than her intense dislike for non-elves, no, she is known for keeping her word. But please, I have a lot of work to do....

He opens up the tapestry portal for you, and the team steps through into the Tapestry.

Beyond the novelty of entering a demiplane through a piece of cloth and exiting out of a vine trellis hundreds of miles away, the journey through the Hao Jin Tapestry is quick and uneventful. Six elves wearing full plate armor as smooth as pearl silently watch the team's arrival before confirming their identities and escorting them into an elegant keep of artfully styled wood and stone. Up several flights of steps, the elves signal that they have reached their destination, knock, and open the doors to admit the team to General Tenasi’s chambers.

Tenasi's spacious room provides a panoramic view of the surrounding woodlands. General Tenasi, an elven woman with chestnut brown hair and wearing medium armor over fine teal clothing, and speaks quietly but firmly.

“As outsiders in Kyonin, I would appreciate your contemplating the rarity of your positions. As a general in charge of these lands’ defense, I expect you to appreciate the gravity of mine. This conversation would not be possible were it not for the letter in your possession.”

She takes the letter (Taken and searched, but not opened, by a guard earlier) and breaks the seal before reading it out-loud.

Most Honorable General Tenasi,

As you may have been informed, soon after making your acquaintance at the Midsummer Masquerade, I enjoyed the privilege of performing a service to the Viridian Crown. Her Majesty’s generous tokens of appreciation included her counselors’ intimation that you might aid me in an urgent endeavor. When the demon horde breached the wardstones surrounding the Worldwound, the nations of the Inner Sea region responded with unprecedented unity. Both the Kyonin rangers and the Pathfinder Society have provided support to the latest Mendevian Crusade in an effort to halt the invasion and to repair the breach. The Worldwound horde is not, however, the only emerging concern. A long-lost dwarven Sky Citadel has recently reappeared. Within its ancient chambers lie millennia of previously unobtainable history. While the Pathfinder Society has already devised plans for a campaign to explore the Sky Citadel, the citadel remains within the region of the Worldwound. No warriors in Avistan can boast the experience of your rangers, who have fought with such valor against the demonic forces of the Witchbole. If you can spare but a score of these peerless fiend-slayers, your assistance would be long remembered not only by the Society but by one to whom Queen Telandia has favored with her gratitude. Hopeful of your assistance, I present the bearers of this message as capable Pathfinders and beseech you to aid their endeavor.

Count Varian Jeggare

She snorts derisively and tosses the letter on her desk.

Nonsense. There is no way we could spare the warriors for your fools errand. We're already supporting the crusades with every available soldier we have, and you would have us throw more men to their deaths just so a bunch of well-armed tomb robbers can get their mitts on some random treasure or bauble. Owed favor or not, I am in charge of our military affairs and I will not, and further more, cannot, spare anyone for your nonsense suicide mission to help a bunch of plunderers go raiding.

"General Tenasi, my name is Fendel Meniska, and I hail from the city of Alkenstar, deep within the Mana Wastes. I know the importance of standing up to monstrosities, even when those costs are high. I assure you that we appreciate the weight your command burdens you with. However, you minimize our goals by over-simplifying them. While the Society's reputation is easy to bespeak poorly of, it lessens both our peoples to give such short shrift to the request. Indeed, the Society hopes to find a piece of the Sky Key, and hopefully use it to seal the Worldwound altogether. Taking a highly skilled team of your warriors does far more than increase the chance of success; it demonstrates all of Kyonin standing boldly for the righteousness of all goodly races against those who would strive to undermine our efforts. It becomes a glowing beacon of unity that gives hope to all of Golarion. Please, reconsider what you have read with honest introspection."

The general taps her fingers on the desk a few times and thinks before speaking slowly.

There... Maaaaybe an alternative...

“It seems news of the Wardstones’ failure reached the Witchbole as quickly as it did Iadara, and the demons have renewed their attacks with greater ferocity,” General Tenasi explains.

“I recalled the Uprooters, but one group has not returned, has not responded, and by all evidence has been lost. I signed the order to discontinue attempts to locate them, for we do not have the resources to commit even a scout to the task.

“As a result, none of my battle plans account for these thirteen lost rangers or their commander Lanverel. Were you to find and rescue them, I would assign them to assist you in reaching the Sky Citadel—after ample recovery time, of course.

Knowledge (geography or history) 15+:
Virtually all of Golarion’s elves left Golarion for a refuge called Sovyrian when the Starstone fell. In their absence, an exiled demon lord named Treerazer occupied a portion of Kyonin. Today, Treerazer’s portion of Kyonin
is known as Tanglebriar, a swampland twisted by his demonic influence.

Knowledge (geography or history) 20+:
The elves used the Sovyrian Stone, a powerful relic, to leave Golarion. Treerazer attempted to corrupt the Sovyrian Stone, triggering the elves’ return. They fought and defeated Treerazer, reducing his domain in Kyonin to what is now Tanglebriar.

Knowledge (geography or history) 25+:
When Treerazer was defeated, he retreated to the Witchbole, a giant fortified thorn tree able to uproot and move about Tanglebriar at Treerazer’s command. Lesser
demons commonly populate Tanglebriar, as do corrupted animals, fey, plant creatures, and vermin.

Knowledge (geography or history) 30+:
Types of greater demons commonly found serving
Treerazer in Tanglebriar include hezrous, nalfeshnees,
and vrocks. Creatures in the area can be corrupted by Tanglebriar’s influence in one of two ways: the vileness of the air, plants, and vermin spreads demon fever and sucks the vigor from living creatures; and centuries of exposure to Treerazer’s influence slowly corrupts animals, fey, plant creatures, and vermin, from the tiniest gnat to
the most enormous arthropod. Corrupted creatures are more common in Tanglebriar than creatures that have not been corrupted

Knowledge Planes 15+:
Demons are chaotic evil outsiders originally from the Abyss, and Tanglebriar is one of their footholds on
Golarion. The demon lord Treerazer is known as the Lord of the Blasted Tarn and worshipped by dark cults within Kyonin.

Knowledge Planes 20+:
Tanglebriar’s corruption is patterned after Treerazer’s former Abyssal realm. Whether Treerazer has any connection to the Worldwound’s breach is unknown, but Tanglebriar’s reputation as a hotbed of demonic activity is known in the Abyss, and though there's no portal there, it serves as a beachhead for demonic forces.

Knowledge Planes 25+:
Demons are immune to poisons exuded by many of the plants in Tanglebriar. Lesser demons are vulnerable to cold iron and good-aligned attacks, though greater demons typically resist all but the latter

Knowledge Planes 30+:
Although most demons are created in and by the Abyss, there are also rituals—typically lengthy—that can transform one or more mortal creatures into demons. If the ritual is interrupted early enough, the victims might escape transformation.

The team appears at the base of a large mountain, most likely Mount Armiya. At a glance they see that they are on a wooded hill with numerous rocky outcroppings including one large stone spur that juts out from the hill to create a relatively flat surface. A shallow but swift-moving stream hugs the contour like a castle moat that separates the ascent from the twisted landscape that begins about 60 feet to the south. There, in a span of several dozen feet, the pristine wilderness transforms into Tanglebriar, a mass of pus-weeping trees, serrated bark, twisted nettles, and growling clouds of gnats.

The good news is, there seems to be half a dozen elves standing on the rocky outcropping, weary, bloodied, but alive. The bad news is they are now all pointing bows at the team as someone screams out...

More specifically, the Uprooter emblem is an inverted black tree, roots aimed skyward, against a brown background. Most wear a clasp of the insignia on their cloaks. The Uprooters tend to be teams of 12 to 15 rangers. As to who they are, Kyonin has many units that patrol its borders, and the Uprooters are several of the most daring groups. They willingly brave Tanglebriar when the elves must strike a target in enemy territory. Their insane, but the kind of insane you need to fight demons.”
