GM Emmjay |
Amarandlon hasn't been on since last week Monday. Someone go ahead and BOT him and lets get this encounter out of the way. With luck we can have this scenario finished before Christmas.
Shera Dionas |
Amarandlon raises an eyebrow at Minmaximus. "They want to know what we are doing here and what our purpose is."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
GM Emmjay |
We will just assume that Amarandlon will be "translating" for the group"
"History? We know something of history. We have been here a long time. We don't go below. Below doesn't come up here. Big, scary! You will not survive. We don't."
GM Emmjay |
"How does one get 'below?'" Min asks, interested despite himself.
"The grate across from us."
GM Emmjay |
Min starts looks for the grate in question.
The big arrow should help.....
GM Emmjay |
”What are these big scaries down there you speak of?”
"We know not what they are called. Big, varied, many. You clear out below for us, yes?"
GM Emmjay |
"Good. You help us, we help you."
One of the gourds goes to a corner and retrieves a couple of items to give you, the group......
1. Dark haired doll wearing a Tiera
2. Silver locket with a portrait of Arenzo Davian
3. Pearl of Power
4. A spellbook
5. Ring of Arcane Signets
6. Ruby Songbird worth 400 gold
6. Knights pennon of battle
Amarandlon Svethaniel |
Thank you so much for the bot.
Amarandlon accepts the gifts graciously on behalf of the group, and gives the nearest leshy a little pat on the head. "They wish us to take these items into the dark below along with us," he says cheerfully. "Several of these look useful..." He eyes the pearl of power as he flips through the spellbook to see what spells are inside.

Create Pit
Endure Elements
Fog Cloud
Gravity Bow
Arcane Eye
Crafters Fortune
Make Whole
Phantom Seed
GM Emmjay |
Anyone attempting to cross the gourd field (and you will need to do so to get to the grate) still need to roll a survival, acrobatics, athletics, or similar profession/perform skill.
Sajna |
Sajna bows to the small creatures before making her way carefully through their garden.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
At least as carefully as she can while carrying her heavy musket and bags of ammunition...
GM Emmjay |
Everyone go ahead and continue to make your movement checks through the patch of gourds. Once you have done so, feel free to take off early for the extended holiday season. This is as good a place as any to stop.
We will resume on/about Jan 2nd.
Roldala Chainbiter |
Now aware that there's a reason to be careful, Roldala does her best to avoid squishing squashes.
Survival take-10: 10 + 7 = 17
Cornelia d'Malheur |
Hey all, terribly sorry about my slow posting recently. My department has been working lot of overtime with the holidays. I've also been having some issues along the home front.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Cornelia easily picks her way through the vegetation, being extremely careful as to where she places her feet.
Amarandlon Svethaniel |
Acrobatics Take 10: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Amarandlon carefully picks his way across the gourd field. "Does anyone want any of these items?" he asks. "I will take this pearl if you don't care for it Minmaximus. Or we could flip a coin..."
GM Emmjay |
Cornelia crosses without issue, doing a flip and jump.
Amarandlon tries to copy Cornelia, and does a decent job at it.
Rodala makes her way across without fanfare or difficulty.
Sanja, barely makes her way across.
Minmaximus breaks a gourd with his clumsy feet.
Shera stumbles upon a vine and breaks a gourd.
"You broke our gourds, you broke our gourds! Bad, Bad, people! You pay!"
Social skills here would be most welcome.....
The 4 successful have been moved down to SLIDE 12.
Shera Dionas |
"I am so so sorry. I didn't mean to step on your gourds. Please forgive me." Her body language is clearly trying to ask for forgiveness.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
GM Emmjay |
Due to two breaking, well, you better call up your translator, and improve your diplomacy roll........
Amarandlon Svethaniel |
"What's that? Oh. Very well..." Amarandlon reluctantly returns to the scene.
Not sure if I'm aiding Shera (preferable) or making my own roll, as the translator, but either way...
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
GM Emmjay |
We were nice to you. We give you items, stuff, to help you. Why you do this? Go defeat the big thing downstairs. Begone with you.
Everyone upstairs carefully makes their way down....
Six round pillars and a large iron gate built into a low archway on the west wall are not the most compelling features of this musty cellar. Drawings rendered from soot and dark brown paint cover the walls. They’re broken up by narrow fissures of dark earth and crumbled plaster. The room is filled with bones, most of which are heaped around a large throne against the south wall. To the north, a wide set of stairs ascends.
The dark brown paint is actually blood.
The most recent bones are troll bones, and many show signs of deep bite marks.
Per - Cornelia: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Per - Cornelia (Traps): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Per - Amarandlon: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Per - Sajna: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Per - Roldala: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Per - Minmaximus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Per - Shera: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
The piles of bones are deepest around the throne, upon which sits a skeleton in black chainmail. It’s held together with dried vines and has slumped forward slightly, a crown of dull iron upon its brow. These bones are not gnawed on
Minmaximus! |
Love how we need to specify 'the bones are not gnawed on.' Yep, Pathfinders.
"Curious decorating tastes. I prefer to use gilt on the bones of my enemies." Min remarks. "But the crown seems interesting. Someone be a dear and fetch it."
Sajna |
"The bones of the skeleton in the throne are fresher than most others, or at least more well-maintained. I'd be cautious approaching them if I were you..."
Please just be dead...
GM Emmjay |
When you are ready to continue on, place yourself on the map on the indicated line.
Roldala Chainbiter |
Hmmp. That's blood on the walls. She eyes one of the more recent bones carefully before giving it a sniff. That's from a troll. Could be its owner's still walking around.
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Roldala will walk up to the skeleton king and poke it in the skull to see if it reacts. Then she'll move to the indicated place on the map
Shera Dionas |
Shera taps her shoulder and casts Touch of Law on herself.
Touch of Law Heal: 11 + 7 = 18
"In addition to the blood, the bones are Troll Bones. They have been gnawed on." Shera pulls out her bow and nocks an arrow on it.
Cornelia d'Malheur |
Cornelia looks around at the bones skeptically. "What sort of monstrosity would eat a troll?" She glances at the crown. "Would one of you please check this area for magical auras before we move onward. I would like to examine that crown more closely."
Always blows my mind that Investigators do not have Detect Magic as part of their list...
GM Emmjay |
Shera casts detect magic on the area looking for magical auras in the bones and on the throne specifically.
Nothing magical here!
Amarandlon Svethaniel |
Amarandlon also glances around after muttering the cantrip that allows him to detect magical auras. "I sense nothing," he says, eyeing the bones uneasily. He stands next to Shera, bow at the ready.
GM Emmjay |
You slowly move forward as a group and come across another gate that is partially ajar. You look in....
Skeletal corpses thinly wrapped in decaying burial linen rest in niches cut into the stone of a wide hallway, which is intersected by numerous narrow fissures. Many of the niches have collapsed, with bony remains jutting out of the rocks and dark earth. The hallway opens into a larger room, where a stone altar is surrounded by cracked walls decorated with intricate reliefs of religious figures and prominent Davians whose tombs lie beyond.
In one corner of the room there is a Know(Religion) to ID (red)!!!! It is Arenzo Davian! In the center of the room, hanging from the ceiling by a thick chain is a badly beaten up TROLL. Its sole remaining arm is tied up, and there are many cuts and wounds on it. With all the blood, guts, and bile on the ground around the troll, anyone who is adjacent (or moves through an adjacent) square (the big blue box on the map) must make a DC10 Acrobatics check in order to run or charge in the area. Fail by 5 or more and you fall down.

Sajna doesn't recognise what has been done to Arenzo, but she recognises a threat when she sees one. She raises her musket and takes aim at the emaciated nobleman.
Mwk Musket Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 vs Touch
