The apartment, save for the bed and a small table by the kitchen, is completely unadorned. Even the bedroom is free of pictures or anything giving a hint to the man's character.
You do find, however, a crumpled bank statement in the kitchen trash. Regular deposits from a familiar bank account: the one in the Caymans already found on Hutkins's accounts.

"Friend of mind hooked us up. First time was in some shoddy hotel a few years ago. Other than that, I don't know much else about him."
DeAndre sees that the apartment is used frequently, but must have a hell of a maid service. It seems like it's cleaned every day or every other day. Other than that, the apartment is immaculate, and beside the unmade bed, could be a show apartment, the ones salespeople show off to sell the others.

"Do you know at all who does the cleaning service here? They are entirely immaculate, I'd love for them to clean my place!" he says with his best charming smile.
"Can we get your contact information? And if my colleagues don't have any more questions at this time, you should probably get dressed and go home. Don't leave town though, we're investigating Mr. Hofstadter's murder."
He turns his attention to Devaroux after the girl leaves, "anything not scrubbed so well? This place looks like a forensic clean room..." His attention drifting to everyone else,"The Vic definitely had 'Organized' connections. Can this get any more convoluted?"

"I'm not sure. I think the landlord has a deal with one of the maid services around here. It's always cleaned up nice."
Through her cool exterior, Krista has a moment of bewilderment cross her face as Hofstadter's murder is mentioned. Anyone with any experience with falsehoods knows that this woman is genuinely taken off-guard.
"Dead? But..."
Other than Krista, there's nothing much else in the room. If checked, security footage shows Krista entering Hofstadter's apartment at 7:14 P.M. last night and not coming out. Multiple witnesses put her in the lobby going up to the room. Her revealing clothing made her hard to miss.

Before we head out with a stack of evidence, I'll use my technopathy to read the videos for a week. You said this was a nice place, are they tapes or data? If data, are they secured on the local disk or a cloud? and I'll zip through them quickly to see if I can catch anything of note. when we get back to the precinct, I'll go over them more thoroughly with a forensic geek.

Reports on the fire was that it was a gas leak. Marsha Collins, Duke's wife, died in the fire. The flames had a single origin point, with evidence of an explosion consistent with a gas leak.

The investigators would not have known this then, as mutant powers and Anamorphology were such new concepts, but, looking at photos of the scene and the burn marks, you can deduce that the flames were under the command of a Fire Controller.
