DM Mathpro |
Please start posting what characters your going to play. I'd like to have all bases covered(arcane, divine, skills, tank) but its really up to the party what everyone plays. For those of you that don't know Legacy of fire is an adventure path that takes place in Katapesh. Once I get my hands on my copy of the first module I'll get a more detailed description of it posted up. Look for more info sometime tomorrow.
There is a players guide for this AP but it isn't free so only get it if you think its really necessary. I won't be requiring you guys read it.
• Races: All standard races from the Pathfinder Core Rulebook will be allowed. Any other PC race will be considered on a case by case basis.
• Classes: Any class that appears in the Core, APG, UM, or UC is fair game. Any Archetype for these base classes (again from the APG, UM, or UC) will be allowed.
• Alignment: Characters can be of any Good or Neutral alignment. No evil alignments will be allowed.
• Abilities: 20 point buy with no ability above an 18 or below 10 before racial modifiers.
• Feats: Any feat from the Core Rulebook, APG, UM, or UC will be acceptable.
• Traits: Character's will start with two traits, one of which MUST be from the Legacy of Fire’s Player's Guide which I will post up later(since I'm not requiring you buy it).
• Hit Points: Characters will start out with Maximum hit points for their class at 1st level.
• Starting Gold: Characters will start with Maximum starting gold.
If you guys are interested I wouldn't mind trying out mythic rules. You guys would gain mythic tiers(levels) at every even level you get in your class. The mythic rules playtest can be found here

DM Carpe |

Excellent, obviously I've had Mythic wrong I thought it was Paizo's version of Epic is that not the case? What is the point of it? I'm a little confused to make my heroes even more heroic? Sounds like playing on easy mode... Maybe I should read it over before I start moaning though ;)

DM Carpe |

Hmmm, reading over the Player's Guide - in purple I spilled Ribena on it some time ago - the bit of flavor that grabs me most is the extinct orc tribe with large jaws and "shockingly pale eyes".
So I'm thinking about a half-orc Scarred Witch Doctor, or possibly a half orc druid.

DM Carpe |

Well Witch is arcane, but personally I am more than happy to play without the "needed" roles. Maybe I'll go barbarian instead.
As for mythic, after reading up I'm mildly opposed if the rest of you want to I'm cool, but not keen. I'm not sure I get the point, and I've always found the kind of heroes it seems to be seeking to emulate far less interesting.

GM Fanguar |

I'm down for either a pure fighter or TWF rogue. I have no real preference, so Almagafor can pick first if he would like.
As for guns, in my opinion either everyone has them or no one does. The fact that they target touch AC makes them a little broken.
@DM Carpe: I was looking at the scarred witch doctor myself and was loving the flavour of it, but the constitution dependance just seemed to make the Archetype a little to MAD for me.

DM Carpe |

MAD? I think its less Mad than the standard Witch, but I'm having trouble with the flavor so I think I'll run a more standard Witch.
Mathpro can I ask why no score lower than 10 before racial mods? Seems like a pretty big power down for a lot of classes to me.

Vedic Boreal |

I originally made this character for another game that I ended up taking over as GM, so I don't think I'm going to be able to play him. Without much tweaking he'd fit right in.
Vedic is an unusual elf who'd seeking the answers to the riddle of his own ancestry. He is obsessed with puzzles and cyphers, and with his own strangely elemental nature. Thematically, he's an Evoker Wizard with a knack for Ice and Fire spells.
Mathpro, according to the Advance Race Guide, Elven Weapons and Elemental Resistance (which replaces Elven Immunities) are both worth 2 RP. Would you allow me to drop Elven Weapons (since he wasn't raised by elves) and pick up Elemental Resistance again, (for 5 point resistance to Cold and Fire).

Sarianne |

Okay so I'm going with a halfling Oracle of the Heavens, and taking the Seeker archetype - which essentially gives me trap finding. 1st level will be pretty tough, but once I hit second and get Color Spray things will become much easier. I've still got a little tweeking to do, and need to swap out a trait to make room for a campaign one - she has 4 having taken Additional Traits.
How flexible are you with traits Math Pro, must they be as written or is there some flexibility? For example can I take Eyes and Ears of the City, which grants perception as a class skill if I type up a bit of suitable fluff, or do I need to be a follower of Abadar who has served in the watch? At a pinch I can always simply take skill focus stealth instead of extra traits.
Also does the Legacy of Fire trait need to be a Campaign trait? Or simply a trait from the player's guide? I think I can make her fit into the Campaign pretty easily, she'll simply have made an unwise promise to someone and as breaking her word makes her physically nauseous - legalistic curse - she'll have little choice. She sort of worships Sarenae which works well here.

DM Carpe |

Does she wear a red and white striped jumper? I tend to think that traits could use a revision, they should facilitate creating interesting backstories, not be restrictive and favor certain backgrounds. Does it really make sense for only Abadar worshipping former guards to be able to get perception as a class skill and boosted? What about an informant, or a spotter for pick pockets, there seem to be dozens of backgrounds that make as much sense if not more.
So we're playing Haleen's adopted family right ;)

Doomed Hero |

I totally agree Carpe. I'd so much rather have Traits be put together in a non-setting specific manor. Just a list of things a trait can buy and some examples, and then you and the GM figure out what the trait means withing the setting.
That's the way I do it in my games. The only thing I've noticed is that a large number of people take traits that give them perception and acrobatics ;)
Personally, my all-time favorite trait is Suicidal (which is supposed to be teifling specific. Lame.)

DM Carpe |

I don't think there is a trait that give you acrobatics anywhere, but honestly if UMD and perception have traits I can't see it being problematic.
I actually kind of like the idea of being Haleen's adopted family now that I think about it, be nice to start off knowing each other, and we'd sort of be a little gang already. Maybe Vedic could have been a childhood friend of hers and a sort of Uncle to the rest of us - given elven age, etc.?

Grune the Scarred |

So as a human, halfling and elf, probably wont all be siblings, shall we just go the orphaned youth route, or the escaped/freed slave route? I guess Haleen could just be the type that took in strays and that way either background works. In any case, these 3 PC's will start off knowing each other.
I think I'll go with the runaway slave route myself.

Sarianne |

I figure that you lot would be part of the bad crowd Sarianne got involved with. Essentially she would hang out a great deal when her parents were out adventuring and Haleen defended her when she got into trouble with various gangs, maybe fenced a little for her. Once her parents died she was around even more and Haleen helped her figure out her curse and deal with some of its consequences.

DM Mathpro |
I really like the idea of you all playing Helen's family. I will even be more than generous and let you all take the finding Helen trait and give you 2 more traits to pick. They don't have to be campaign traits but can't be from the same category.
You guys will come to realize that I'm a rather...laid back and friendly(overly?) DM.
So who all has there characters ready to go now?

Vedic Boreal |

I'm ready.
Playing Helen's family will take some alteration of my backstory, but I think can make it fit.
If I grew up in the desert but went to Issen to track down information about my biological mother and her crazy riddles, and am now coming home after being gone for a few years, does that still work for the storyline?

Vedic Boreal |

Ok, ready to go.
Since we're playing family, can we talk about our character's personalities?
Also, we should probably try to make our comparative ages make sense.
He's extremely passionate and obsessive, always having a half dozen different projects or ideas going on at once, switching between them based on intuition and epiphany. He seems scatter-brained and distracted a lot of the time, but when it's important he'll aim the full power of his prodigious intellect at a problem and never fail to work out a solution.
Emotionally, he's a bit bi-polar, going mercurially back and forth between intensely passionate ups and downs and calmly logical control. His unpredictable nature makes him a bit difficult to deal with, but he always responds well when someone he cares about gives him directions or asks him to reign in his crazy.

Sarianne |

Sarianne is one of those people who likes to come across as cynical and tough, but is really a lot nicer than she wishes to let on. She would get very uncomfortable actually saying she loved someone, but would still bring them chicken soup when they were ill and steal them the perfect birthday present. She claims to hate her birth mother and her goody goody ways, but obviously has a lot of the same tendencies how ever much she fights them. She went cold and distant for a while after her mother and father died and it was only when she began to have problems caused by her curse - having been a great liar and suddenly finding breaking her word made her want to vomit - that she was forced to seek help from Haleen again and came back into the fold.
I've aged her down a bit to 23, halflings take a little longer to reach adulthood than humans so she'd be a sort of little big sister to most of the group. I'd imagine she'd look upon Vedic with something like quiet exasperation :)

Grune the Scarred |

Well we do have an elf in our midst, so ages probably don't matter that much.
Grune is a little slow. Not necessarily stupid, but it takes him a little longer to get there. As such, he tends to be a little on the quiet side. He's bigger and stronger than most people and though not particularly mean spirited, he's never been adverse to using his size to get what he wants.
His first response to conflict is violence and bears the scars of every fight with pride. In brief, not a talker, not a negotiator and likes to hit things.
