Zeljka finished off the remaining cleric before her. She brought the blade down on its neck. The lizardfolk was hewn in two by Zeljka's deadly blade, each half falling to the ground.

She then readied her blade for the next time that the Swamp Speaker buzzed her.

I don't think she needs her second attack to dispatch the cleric. Is there anything else within reach that she can hit with the second attack?

She's readying her action to attack the Swamp Speaker when he comes in for another attack.

Meanwhile, the small elemental continued to harass Daruthek. It was too small to throw the cleric, but there were other things in the chamber. The roiling mass of strange aetherial tendrils waved at one of the dead cleric's fallen weapons, and the weapon disappeared. Almost immediately, it appeared above Daruthek's head.

confirm crit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13Fail

With only one cleric left standing, Nsizi hoped that the spritual iwisa would take care of it. The weapon continued to batter at the mjusi, finally knocking him to the ground, not to move again.

SW attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

While his spells did their trick, Nsizi realized he was out of magic that could affect the flying mjusi. Taking a step towards Min, he grabbed the djinni's gem from the pocket where he'd seen her stow it. Tossing it to the ground, he was prepared to stomp on it, but the gem broke easily.

What size of elemental does it summon, and how long does it take?

Achahut was out of enemies to fight - at least on the ground. But he couldn't reach Daruthek. Holding his pick ready in his hand, he turned to his enemy and spoke. "You think your dark lord is with you, Daruthek, but he is not. You are alone now. We have stopped your storm, and killed your minions, and now we will kill you. Your spirit will know no release, no honour. You will dwell down here in darkness, alone, and the Mireborn will forget your name. Even your ghost will be alone and powerless." As he spoke, he waited for Daruthek to move.

What would be the appropriate spell to blow the fog away? Alter winds is weaker, but seems to be a wider spell. Gust of wind is stronger, but is it only a line? Could I clear away much/most of the fog with it?

Gust of wind will disperse the fog in 4 rounds but be aware that the gust of wind spell last for one round only so you would have to cast it four times.

male

Min: now that this game is winding down, can I interest you in a kick-ass PBP game set in Eberron?

I have four 'decent' players and am looking for another 'decent' player. :)

Both Nsizi and Zelkja can attest as to how great game the game is. :)
Ahem...

The game follows a similar format as this one and you can check it out here.

YES YES YES! DO IT MIN!

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Yes! Do it Min :) We have a blast together in Eberron. Don't worry about whether you know anything about Eberron or not because I didn't. Fabian always gives us enough info. It's the game of mine where I enjoy the player interaction the most.

Seriously, the Eberron game is great, and we've been having a hard time hanging onto our 5th player. And when Fabian says "decent", he really means "amazing". :) Shari's right, we have such a solid group of 4 right now, the RP aspect of the game is lots of fun. Plus, you know, Fabian is a decent GM.

As the chamber filled with fog, Nsizi was already calling upon the spirits to disperse it. "Spirits! I call up on your breath, to blow this foul fog away, that we might defeat these enemies of the land!"

A strong gust of wind blew from Nsizi into the fog, and started to clear it away. Nsizi knew it would take several more spells to clear it away, but this was a good start.

Will this clear away part of it? Or does it have no noticeable effect until all 4 are cast?

Wait a second. If the spell is fog cloud, it says that a strong wind (21mph+) will disperse in 1 round. Gust of wind is 50 mph. Also, while the fog is in effect, how do my elementals attack? Just a regular attack, then roll 50% miss chance? What about Achahut throwing a javelin? Same thing?

male
Nsizi wrote:

The spell is obscuring mist and it takes four rounds to clear it with gust of wind.

Attacking someone that you don't see gives you a 50% of missing unless you have other ways of 'seeing'.

I suppose I could come up with a progressive removal rate but not for the first round.

Questions?

Game on!

In the cover of the mist, it was impossible to tell what was going on. Nsizi could hear the grunts and hisses of elementals attacking, but couldn't tell if anybody was hitting. His spiritual club had no enemy, so he attempted to mentally direct it to attack the Swamp Speaker, but again, couldn't tell if it was working.

aetherial elemental melee slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
air elemental melee slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
1d100 ⇒ 82
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
spiritual weapon: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Achahut could see nothing, but he could hear plenty. "Coward! You hide like an ape. Fight like a Mireborn! Fight me!" He considered throwing a javelin into the mist, but knew he was as likely to hit the grey half-ape as his foe. Instead, he held his pick and awaited his chance to strike.

perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
attack pick: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 1 = 26
1d100 ⇒ 49
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

attack pick: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 1 = 30
confirm crit: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 1 = 24[
1d100 ⇒ 39
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Achahut will attempt to take a swing at SS if he hears him swoop down - I rolled for two attacks in case he gets two. I expect he will not attack at all this round, but just in case....

But ... but ... I was just about to say I don't know anything about Eberron. Except that they have gnomes in airships. Do I have to play a gnome in an airship?

Seriously, though, my utter ignorance of the setting makes it hard for me to generate a character concept. I'll take a look at the story thus far and see if I can get a feel for it.

Isn't there some weird thing about the gods in Eberron?

Phew, I thought we scared you away from posting. :)

While I would love to have you as a player, I understand if you are reluctant to join. Learning a new setting can be daunting... but very exciting.

PBPs are slow and I won't be able to write you in the story until a at least a couple of weeks of real time have passed so you do have time.

I've placed a book on this website that has all fluff (no crunch) with lots of great pics. it's only 66 pages with lots of pictures so it should be a quick read.

See if anything in there strikes your fancy. I, of course, have lots more info to share if you are interested in something in particular.

Let me know if you have any questions.

"I'm beginning not to like Lord Hshurha very much," Min remarked. Narrowing her eyes at the billowing mist, she pointed her finger and pronounced a sharp syllable.

cast dispel magic on obscuring mist: caster level check 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Female half-orc Slayer/7

So much for Zeljka hefting Achahut into the air to snag the Swamp Speaker and bring him down to the ground...unless the obscuring mist is dispelled. Can Zeljka continue to hold her action? She can't do anything if (a)the obscuring mist stays or (b)the Swamp Speaker stays aloft.

rolls:

lightning at Zelkja and ?: 1d2 ⇒ 1, Min
damage: 6d4 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 2) = 13
Min reflex save DC 15 for 1/2 damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22, pass
Zelkja reflex save DC 15 for 1/2 damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9, fail

The two elementals continued their attack on the Swamp Speaker.

aether elemental: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
air elemental: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

However, the flying mjusi was too quick for their attacks, and avoided both. Nsizi then hefted his spear, took careful aim, and let fly at Daruthek.

throw spear: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
confirm crit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

The spear flew straight and true, and embedded itself in the mjusi's thigh. Daruthek cried out in pain, and his flight path faltered a bit, as there was now four feet of spear hanging down from his leg.

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Zeljka was growing increasingly frustrated. She hated the idea of switching to a more ineffective weapon, not to mention that is probably when Daruthek would fly within reach again. She also hated waiting for the coward to descend.

If she uses the platforms that the children are laid on to jump off of and launch herself, is there any way she can reach Daruthek? And if possible, what kind of rolls would she be looking at to do so?

Okay, crazy plan time. Achahut is right by Daruthek. Can he brace himself and make a cradle with his hands, and if she runs at him, he can launch her up at the SS?

EDIT her of course being Zeljka

male

I like the creativeness but the guy is 20' high up in the air so it's not easy to reach him (by design). Not by jumping, even with help.

Maybe Min will think of something...

Female half-orc Slayer/7

That's scary Ang because I was thinking the same thing but reversed, Zeljka launching Achahut because she has a 22 strength right now.

Just took another look at the map and realize that it's probably not possible to launch herself off the platforms so she'll most likely switch to her bow.

Zeljka switched back to her longbow and made use of Min's magic to let loose two arrows at the Swamp Speaker. The first arrow flew wide but the second one found its mark and buried itself in Daruthek's abdomen.

longbow,studied target,haste: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 13
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
longbow,studied target,haste: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 26
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Do we have any more dispel spells/scrolls? I'm fairly sure him flying isn't natural.

After her second arrow hit the Swamp Speaker, Zeljka grunted, "Are there any more scrolls or spells that make magic disappear? He has to be flying by magic which can be ended, right?"

Female half-orc Slayer/7

I had forgotten the studied target bonus to damage so I just edited it to reflect that bonus.

As my second standard action from haste, can I toss a tanglefoot bag to Achahut?

male
Nsizi wrote:

It's not an extra action but rather When making a full attack action, a hasted creature may make one extra attack with one natural or manufactured weapon.

So you attack with one weapon as a full round action and you get an extra attack with that weapon. I believe it applies to missile weapons as well.

Alas I only have the one spear....

Min virtually crowed with triumph as the lizardfolk reappeared. "Peek-a-boo, I see you!" she called to the Swamp Speaker. "Let's end this," she went on, more grimly, pushing up the sleeves of her coat as she pointed two fingers at Daruthek and sent two missiles of arcane force speeding unerringly toward his reptilian body.

cast magic missile 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5

Zeljka Greenfoot wrote:

Min shrugged. "I could try ... but it would take me a little while."

She can recall dispel magic with her pearl of power, but it will take two rounds (one to recall, one to cast), and she'd have to make the caster level check to succeed. She just happened to roll spectacularly well against the obscuring mist.

With few other options at this range, Achahut took two of his remaining javelins and threw them at the flying traitor.

javelin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
javelin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Both flew wide of the mark, clattering harmlessly back to the chamber floor.

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Nsizi, we have 3 spears listed in our loot so you can use them...not?

Oh right, those three MW spears I've been carrying around, almost forgot...:)

Grabbing one of the spears he'd recovered from the dead clerics, Nsizi followed up his first strike with a second. Alas, this one clattered uselessly to the ground with Achahut's javelins.

"Don't be ridiculous," Min scoffed. "You talk like you're winning, when we all know you've lost." She pointed her finger and shot an acid dart at the flying Swamp Speaker. Unfortunately, her confident words were belied by her poor aim. "Nsizi," she hissed, "see to Zeljka. Take the potion from my pack if you need it. Zeljka, just a few more arrows! He can't take much more!"

I just realized she could use her Arcane Bond rather than her pearl of power to recast dispel magic ... but it's just as well she didn't try it with that 1 in the chute.

Nsizi didn't need to be told; he grabbed Zeljka by the shoulder and called upon the spirits to help her.

CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 2) + 5 = 13

Meanwhile, overhead, the aether elemental rushed at the swamp speaker, attempting to knock him out of the air. The air elemental, frustrated in its inability to damage the lizard, spun itself into a raging whirlwind, and engulfed the flying mjusi.

aether elemental: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Achahut scooped up one of the fallen javelins at his feet and again launched it at their pierced foe, who was dripping blood as he swooped and flew. The projectile flew off course, and splashed uselessly into the chamber's moat.

attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Zeljka seethed in hatred as the Swamp Speaker did precisely what she expected him to. It didn't matter that he was a coward or that she knew he was a coward. What mattered was she bring the flying rat down to her level. Drawing and nocking another arrow, Zeljka sent it flying at Daruthek. Sadly the arrow just grazed the evil mjusi and even though it made a hole in his robes, it did not accomplish what she had hoped.

Seeing the missiles fly wide made Daruthek smile, "Mu Lord is strong in this temple!"

He turned to Achahut once more, "What's the matter? Too awed to respond or just disdain for higher powers?"

He pulled out a gem similar in nature to the one the djinni gave the companions but this gem was cracked and had ugly red and black veins.

"Maybe this will convince you all of my power..."

He started chanting over the gem, coaxing something or someone to come through...

-----------------
No recap since you guys all suck! :)
Daruthek is using a gem of summoning
Min, have you had a chance to check out Eberron and/or our game?

Don't insult us and then rush Min for a decision! It won't go well! So, do we get another round of actions? Also, is being in a whirlwind not slowing him down at all?
I would think that would at least make it hard to concentrate.

Female half-orc Slayer/7

I am also confused as to what we're supposed to be doing. Do we act again?

male
Zeljka Greenfoot wrote:

yes, you all get another round of actions.

Seeing that the whirlwind was not affecting the swamp speaker, the air elemental switched tactics, attacking with another melee slam. The aether elemental used its telekinesis to throw another of the clerics spears at the flying foe. Again, both attacks failed to harm the swamp speaker.

aether telekinetic throw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
air melee slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

"We must get him down," Nsizi said. "Mina, I think you must try to dispel his flying, if you can. Bufi, I have an idea. Help me."[b] Pulling a length of rope that had been coiled around one of his neswambi straps, he and the half-orc hastily tied it to the end of one of the spears. [b]"If you can pierce him with this, perhaps we can pull him down. Achahut, come and help."

The mjusi joined them and held the end of the rope, bracing himself to pull if their desperate ploy worked.

Female half-orc Slayer/7

"Good thinking, Nsizi," the half-orc grunted. Zeljka hefted the spear and tested the balance with the rope attached before firing it at Daruthek.

spear,studied target,bull's strength: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 2 = 16
damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

But the attached rope threw off the half-orc's aim and it didn't go quite high enough. Luckily the rope was attached making it easy to retrieve the spear.

Seeing the grey-skin's throw miss, Achahut growled in frustration and quickly pulled the spear back in for a second throw.

I got through turn 25 as of last night, but I've been very busy all day today and haven't made any further progress.

Nsizi wrote:

Min gave a doubtful shrug. "If this doesn't work ... I think he's summoning an elemental. Be prepared to fight." Twisting her ring on her finger, she pointed at the Swamp Speaker and attempted to dispel some of the magic supporting him.

Wow: back-to-back ones. The dice have turned on me.

Seeing him fail to plummet to the stone floor, she winced and drew her wand of magic missile.
