GM Bearington |

Tita, how new are we talking here? No problem showing you the ropes, but I'd like to know where to start.
Those of you who have expressed willingness to be flexible with your characters, you have until the start of game day to decide. I prefer some semblance of balance as a general rule, but seeing as we will be playing 1-2 it shouldn't matter a whole lot.

Hmpfh! More groupies. When will my luck ever change for the better?

![]() |

I apologize terribly, I must have missed the first call to arms as this is my first time seeing this thread.
I still haven't run a single PbP, but I'm currently slated for some others. That said, I'm more than confident in my ability to play an additional one, if you're still interested in having me. Tita is currently taken, but I had an idea for an admittedly light-hearted Barbarian, if you're open to something that's a little more zany without being a burden.
I'm green as it gets with PbP, but I'm a quick learner and I've done my research. I'll be able to hit the ground running. I use my current profile as the format for all my characters, so if there's any missing info on it, let me know and I'll happily fix it! I have everything under spoilers because I only use my phone, and it's less cluttered that way in mobile.

Player Name: Trout
Character Name: Old Nan
Pathfinder Society#: 246666-5
Faction: The Exchange
Day Job Roll: Profession Cook, Take 12 (Patient Calm): 12 + 8 = 20
As Tita is occupied elsewhere, I'll be taking Old Nan here, a Barbarian who uses her trusty Frying Pan as her weapon of choice. As stated earlier she's a bit on the light-hearted side, but she's more than capable of pulling her weight in combat and she'll be played as seriously as any other character.

GM Bearington |

No worries Trout!
As far as zany characters who aren't burdens, I love them! :D
Just FYI, even if I didn't, I don't believe rejecting a character based on concept is allowed in PFS. I think as long as it is a legal build and the player hasn't played the scenario before (exception being some form of a replay), the GM must seat the player. Just for your future wild, outlandish builds ;)

Agreed. The weirdo characters are much more fun than the min-maxers. Bring on the frying pan!

Hello Tita, this is Frankie :)
Pretty sure I'm all set with Mort now, got his purchases up to date. He's going down the intimidate feat tree and has a brutal boon if/when he makes successful checks. Unfortunately I'm still working on earning the end reward, see below.
(2/10)Brutal Reputation: You have developed a reputation as an intimidating figure and fierce combatant. Once per adventure, you can enhance your reputation. Your reputation grows if you succeed at an Intimidate check that is written in to an adventure or successfully demoralize two or more foes during one combat. Your reputation also grows when you confirm a critical hit against an opponent whose CR is greater than your character level or suffer (and survive) a critical hit that deals an amount of damage equal to at least 5 times your character level, leaving you with a permanent, visible scar. When you achieve any of these goals during an adventure, ask your GM to record the adventure’s name and her Pathfinder Society number on the blanks below. Once you have successfully built your reputation in 10 adventures, word of your deeds provides you with an enduring benefit.

Heh, guess we've got some crossover going on!

![]() |

I have to admit, I'm excited to begin. While I am running other characters as well, it's still my first time doing PbP. I hope I hold up okay.

GM Bearington |

For no particular reason how tall is everyone's character? Would you believe me if I said I was just curious? ;)

![]() |

Even stooped over with age, The Herald is still tall at 6'1".
In his youth he was quite imposing.
And no, I don't believe you. ;-)

![]() |

Lara's physical description is in her profile (she's 5'7").

![]() |

This author wanted to punish everyone for always making tall characters, huh?
Barbo is 6'4".

GM Bearington |

My goodness, quite the towering party! Thanks for the timely responses!

![]() |

Am I being oblivious? I don't see the link to the slideshow.
Also, how do you make a symbol into a circle in Google Docs?

![]() |

This author wanted to punish everyone for always making tall characters, huh?
Yeah, I'd say it turns out the author wanted to punish short characters.

GM Bearington |

Mort is correct. There is a hyperlink under my profile name!
I will turn your icons to circles and then describe the process in a moment.
EDIT: Jk, The Herald has provided a visual on the slide with your icons. If you want to know how to do it, try it out! :) IF it isn't changed in a day or so, I'll do it myself.

![]() |

Well, you have to know these things when you're the unwilling harbinger of a universe-eating aberration from beyond the stars, you know.

![]() |

Thanks Herald, that was a great guide!

![]() |

@Mort, as originally envisioned it was an unknown and unnamed Great Old One, but for PFS compatibility I switched to Shyka.

GM Bearington |

Old Nan, would you place your icon on the slideshow?
On slide 4 is your current map.

GM Bearington |

Thanks! :) Not only do I like the way they look, I find it really easy to get the images without backgrounds.

Yay, my illusion did something!
If Dorothyah turns out to be an intelligent weapon, that will be the greatest twist ever.

GM Bearington |

This is a relatively minor encounter, so I'm not going to worry about it here, but does anyone know hoe illusions interact with allies? In this case, Lara is firing her bow as though the illusion isn't there.
I can see this going two ways:
I appreciate all of your input on the matter, but frankly any rules text, FAQs, etc are what I'm really looking for here.

![]() |

If I were GM, I think I'd rule it that allies saw her casting a spell and know her abilities (which do not include summoning such a powerful ally), so they're in on the illusion.
But firing or casting through it as if it weren't there would give enemies a new save.
Admittedly I have no rules or FAQs to back this up, just my own $0.02 worth of opinion.

GM Bearington |

Giving enemies a new save and that you all would have had some sort of conversation about what each of you are capable of is what my gut is telling me too.
Unless rules are found, from this point on I will run it that way.
To be clear:
Friendly illusions don't need to be communicated between PCs, however actions that suggest the true nature of the illusion to others will prompt a saving throw.

![]() |

That's pretty generous! Thanks. I've always played it that the caster needs to whisper to his allies that he's about to cast an illusion. My bad, I should have done that.
But it does makes sense that something of this proportion would be obvious that I can't do, to my allies.
Either way, if we pretend it's not there, that should definitely give them a save. I agree.

![]() |

This makes me wonder if a PC can do a Bluff check to give the baddies a negative on their saves. If so, it'd be a Standard action I'm sure, but possibly worth it in some situations.
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

I don't know, I could see a water elemental being porous enough that a random guy who didn't know any better wouldn't bat an eye at an arrow flying through the spray.

![]() |

A bluff check would be cool. My bluff is -2 though. However, I think that would be a cool Bard concept.

![]() |

It appears my post was indeed eaten, reposted it now. I am accepting the AoO, but I'm entering rage AFTER the attack to avoid the -2 AC.

![]() |

I'm going to be moving across the country via car over the next 4 days. My posts will be sparse, if at all, and Botting is encouraged. Sorry for the inconvenience.

GM Bearington |

No worries! If it comes to combat, I'll do my standard delay until the end of the round and then bot if still needed.

GM Bearington |

Old Nan, just found the trait I was referring to: Rough and Ready
I see you have a combination of traits that give you better net results, however it is something to consider since you could replace one trait (and possibly a feat) with whatever you want.

![]() |

I'm really enjoying the visuals of Old Nan and her frying pan. I'm imagining her at level 12, cooking up some eggs in a Flaming Vorpal Adamantium +3 frying pan.
And for the record, Nan: The Herald is definitely younger than you.
Probably.
Maybe.
It's possible.
It's possible, right?
