Dot for now. Good luck with your chopping.

Me too, and in looking for an alternative I drew a blank. ;o)
Garedon |
I wrote one - a haiku (an haiku?) relating to the last adventure. :) (My philosophy about haikus - and Garedon's about this Tian school of poetry - is that they don't have to be good, you just have to count syllables.)

Oh, wasn't aware this was up yet. Anyways, I think I'm ready to go. Just got to double check my sheet later. I should be ready by tomorrow.

I've been super busy this weekend. I moved into a new apartment, and internet is only half-up (I have service, but no wi-fi set up yet for my computer), and I'm still unpacking. I'll try to catch up though :)
Probably going to buy a couple antitoxins and a healer's kit of my own... and a few mundane supplies like "paper." I'll have that up in the next day or two. I'm in medium armor, so I might as well go to medium load with equipment.
тυιcн |
Tuich has a fair bit of money saved but no experience with what we might run into in an ossuary. But if you folks will offer her some guidance when the story gets to that point, she'll equip accordingly.
(She does have both Holy Water and a battle aspergillum as well as some ghost-salted weapons...)
Miko Teppen |
Kurse! Fancy seeing him here...
Vincent Blackwood |
I'll play Harsk! I've heard excellent things about him! I'm kidding
Lady Adelaide |
I've got some holy water handy, if we need it.
Vincent Blackwood |
I'm finalized for the session. Bought a morningstar, holy water, healer's kit, and anti-toxin.
Garedon |
I bought a few more things:
spell purchase (Detect Undead)
Scroll (Detect Undead)
Scroll (Ray of Frost)
Edit: Dropped Scroll of Message for another spring-loaded wrist sheath. Thought I had two on Garedon...

Apologies for being so "uninvolved" lately. Things have been crazy here, and then a Windows update the other day played havoc with my machine. Among other issues, I couldn't log into it remotely to post from work. It still has some problems (like my graphics tablet/mouse being funky) but at least I got remote access working again.
Thanks for everyone's patience!
GM Kyshkumen |
Sorry for the slight delay still putting the finishing touches on the map. I should have it up late afternoon early evening. The scale is going to be smaller due to it's size and there may be some drastic shifts as you reveal the map. So if you cannot find yourself right away you'll need to scroll around a bit.
тυιcн |
"You need not concern yourself with that possibility," Garedon reassures Vyk, "I do not believe it is possible that anything you could do could make me think less of you."
Okay, the people at work just looked at me funny because I suddenly burst out laughing.
Thanks. Thanks a lot. :oP
Garedon |
:) Oh good, I'm glad that one worked.
He really did mean it well (I think). While the goal of writing should be clarity, it is interesting trying to write more wordy, obtuse, and ambiguously than I already do.
тυιcн |
It was a brilliant double entendre, on par with some of the best ambiguous responses to job reference inquiries I've ever read:
* You'll be lucky if you can get him to work for you.
* She is always trying.
* I am pleased to say that this candidate is a former colleague of mine.
* I can’t say enough good things about her.
... and so on. :o) Well done. I can't praise your wit too highly. ;o)

Have you met my alchemist, Doctor Loveless? :o) He doesn't compare to Garedon, but rarely uses two syllables when ten will do:
YOU, BOY!" he calls out as he flips the coin in the child's direction. "Where might one secure conveyance in this town?"
"Ah! Well met, my good man. I am in need of transport, and one of your young citizens," he says as he gestures towards the door and the street beyond, "advised me this would be a likely establishment for procuring a suitable mount."
I'm verbose as all heck and, quite frankly, he annoys me! :oP
Garedon |
Tuich, we should get them in the same party. :D You are too kind, though.
GM Kyshkumen, sorry about that! It's in the APG (ioun torch) and somewhere else originally that I can't remember. Maybe Seeker of Secrets.
It also seems a bad item in some ways, or at least badly priced: it costs 75 gp, which is just cost, 25 gp for the stone and the 50 gp in material components for the continual flame spell. Meanwhile, the classic, the everburning torch costs 110 gp for less functionality (requiring a hand or a sconce, and weighing a pound), which is the usual twice material component cost and plus a spellcasting cost. If I could change the rules, I'd at least pay more for it.
тυιcн |
On the other hand, the everburning torch provides nice, steady light. An ioun torch constantly circles your head, which can make for annoyingly shifting shadows as well as a "TARGET IS HERE!" flashing beacon as the thing repeatedly passes behind your noggin. I've seen perception penalties applied when it's the only light source, as well as an increased chance of being noticed by baddies.
Also, ioun torches have an image problem, since they're made from burnt out stones; they'd be trash otherwise.
Yeah, I've rationalized this one before. :o)
(Note that since the everburning torch doesn't create heat, you can safely jam it into your belt or under a strap on your backpack. Depending on the GM you may not have to devote a hand to holding it.)
Garedon |
It's not trash! It's recycling!
The continual light burnt-out ioun torch is an old trick, and people have used them for other things, too. For one, it's an obvious signal when the stone drops from the air, and some will paint them to provide extra, false targets for their real ioun stones.
Garedon |
"... it's an obvious signal of an anti-magic field when the ..." I meant to say.
So, on order, It seems that Miko and I are tied for squishiness until I activate a Shield spell, when I have better AC. Tuich has considerably better HP, but not AC, and should probably be in the center somewhere as our primary healer. Unless we want a fighter type back there, it looks like Garedon will bring up the rear guard. His ability to act in the surprise round and good perception rolls might be of use there, too.
So, perhaps Tuich, Miko, Garedon for the last three.

In a good way or a bad way? I play most of my games online, the f2f ones are always very, very different.

Regarding the Haunted curse: I can dig up an actual FAQ entry if you want, but a bit of quick googling returned:
Using a spell component (and interestingly, retrieving ammunition) is not a "retrieve stored item" action, and therefore... not subject to this curse.
Given that "Retrieve a Stored Item" is a specific entry on the Combat Actions table (and provokes an AoO), plus explicitly stated is...
Drawing ammunition for use with a ranged weapon (such as arrows, bolts, sling bullets, or shuriken) is a free action.
... I'm pretty confident about that one. However, there was also discussion about "retrieving a stored item" referring to e.g. in a backpack (versus a pocket). So while I loved your concept of Tooley switching the candle lantern to another pocket, I'm not sure if that actually applies (I've always assumed it does, and played it that way). Thoughts?
Garedon |
I was looking at the Eastern armors (which I've generally avoided out of some sort of principle), but the "Silken Ceremonial Armor" sounds like it could be potentially very wizard-like: "Used for ceremonial displays or occasionally worn (albeit with no additional benefit) over heavier armor, these robes consist of several layers of cloth and an outer layer of silk intricately woven with gold brocade designs and covered with metal studs."
Since there are no drawbacks (no armor check penalty, speed penalty, or arcane failure chance) besides a bit of weight (4 lbs.), it would give Garedon an excuse to wear something like a passable wizard robe, with the traditional arcane and cosmic decorations as designs and studs.
As an added benefit, it could be enchanted to boost AC and have some of the armor special enchantment properties.
(The Haramaki would do the same for less weight, but it doesn't seem to fit.)
Garedon |
It occurs to me (probably much after everyone else...) that a mithral buckler is in the same category, having no armor check penalty and 0% spell failure, while still offering a +1 to AC.
Of course, neither a Silken Ceremonial Armor/Haramaki would beat Mage Armor, nor would a Mithral Buckler beat Shield, but both would have the advantage of being constant and give access to some of the armor and shield special abilities.
тυιcн |
For those who can't afford mithral (any of my PCs, usuall), a darkwood buckler is a nice interim measure.
Castarr4 |
It's somewhat debated on the boards as to whether bucklers are supposed to be made of wood or metal, and therefore if mithral or darkwood is the correct special material to use for one.
I personally think darkwood is fine, seeing as Paizo has written in at least one darkwood buckler into an adventure path as loot.
Enchanted silken ceremonial armor is pretty good, and the same price as Bracers of Armor for the same bonus. The upside to armor is that it leaves your wrist slot open for a different item. The upside to bracers of armor is that they're core and won't make DMs annoyed at you for using Tian stuff (some guys really hate the asian flavored stuff) or for "cheesing."
Garedon |
Hi Castarr4,
Hmm. I didn't know there was a debate. Or, rather, both forms are described in the rules (somewhat contradictorily, I would say).
The PRD has the standard buckler as "this small metal shield is worn strapped to your forearm." So, it is normally metal. However, a "darkwood buckler" is also a specifically-described item. (Oddly, it is half the weight of the 'metal' buckler.)
So, since there is a metal standard version, you can switch out metal for other versions.
But, since there is no standard plain 'wooden' version, there isn't really a way to get the other wood versions, like greenwood or whipwood or whatever (or just 'wood').
Castarr4 |
Oh, right. Okay, I've checked the issue. Here's the problem:
Darkwood Buckler
Aura no aura (nonmagical); CL —
Slot shield; Price 203 gp; Weight 2.5 lbs.
Description
This nonmagical light wooden shield is made out of darkwood. It has no enhancement bonus, but its construction material makes it lighter than a normal wooden shield. It has no armor check penalty.
A "darkwood buckler" is a light wooden shield. So the question is now if a darkwood buckler is actually a buckler or a light shield. Only the buckler's description says that you can cast with your shield hand. A light shield does not.
Or is it actually a buckler? Oh Pathfinder...
Garedon |
Oh, you know - curiously for me! - I never read "light wooden shield" literally in that sentence as referring to that other object, the "Shield, light wooden", instead always reading it like "a buckler, which is a type of shield, that is light, and in this case made of wood." (If that makes any sense. :-P )
Heh!
If it was really a "Shield, light wooden", then it could potentially become a quickdraw shield and a throwing shield, etc., but it wouldn't allow the (very important) casting of spells with material components.
Castarr4 |
Normally we'd settle this by examining its weight... but the buckler and wooden shield, light have the same weight (5 lb). Paizo has yet to chime in on the subject, last I checked.
It's like if they made a unique weapon called the "darkwood club" and describing it as a "light weapon." It is, but it's not.
тυιcн |
Hehe... an Unseen Servant sent ahead to set off any traps first, three buffs applied, and another party member running along behind with a Cure Light wand.
Yep, we loves us our Vyk Tyr! :oD
And I'm sorry, but this is what went through my head while discussing rations:
"Food? We just ord-"
"...er pizza!" :o)
FYI, for about the next six weeks I won't be able to post from work. I'll still be able to read and keep up with the action, but posting will be restricted to mornings, evenings, and weekends. Thanks for your patience!
Vyk Tyr |
First attack goes off as normal, the second attack does not as you had to draw your rapier which is a move action.
Yep, sorry about that. You're right. Got excited there.
