Beneath Brokenhelm Hill and the weathered walls of Thornkeep lies an ancient maze of magic and madness. Over the centuries, adventurers have found their way into these twisting passages and magnificent chambers, only to discover that the fading magic of the ancient Azlanti still lingers here. The people of Thornkeep call this dungeon the Halls Under the Hill, but those heroes who have dared its depths know this place by a different name: the Accursed Halls.
Although much of the Accursed Halls was overrun by goblins and the undead remnants of recent explorers, the third level of the dungeon proved to be a foul laboratory of all manner of alchemical and magical experimentation.
Within that sprawling laboratory was left a heavy iron door. What lies below none can yet say but vast rewards await those who can overcome the dungeon’s hazards, but the cowardly or incompetent can look forward to only a swift death—or worse.

Swayaah walks into the room, yawning. Last week was perhaps the best week of sleep she's had in a while. She flaps her stubby wings a bit before sitting on a stool and carefully grabbing a mug, making sure her claws don't scrape it too much.
"Man, I feel good. Name's Swayaah, everyone." Her tail waves lazily in the party's direction.

![]() |

Greetings Says an elf from the corner of the room. A tall longbow is perched on the wall beside him. I am Kalendir. It is a pleasure to meet you. It seems we were called here on urgent business for the Society.

![]() |

I am sorry I was not more clear that Awen was ready. I apologize.
A tall and heavily cloaked man walks into the room, his cowl pulled low over his face. He slowly scans the room, and you get the feeling that not much passes him without being seen. Seeing the female tiefling on the stool seems to rock him back a bit.. but he quickly recovers. As he throws his hood back and pushes his cloak behind his shoulders, you can see little almost-nubs on his forehead, and think that you catch a glimpse of a tail peeking out from the cloak. "I am Awen, a ranger from the wilds. I have just returned from the deserts of Qadira, but it seems that evil never rests. Are you my companions for this newest mission?"

![]() |

[b"]Ha. Born ready!"[/b] Swayaah nods as she drinks. "Well, once everyone else gets here."

EndlessForms |

@Awen: No problem! I've been busy this week anyways.
Everyone ready to head through the door? I'll wait for Rackle to check in first.

![]() |

With jet black feathers and a beak, it's difficult to mistake this fellow for anything but a Tengu. Short and squat he is, but he moves with a great stillness and economy. He wears fine studded leather Armor with a dark cloak and carries two curved short swords that you may recognize as Wakizashi blades from Tian Xia. "Greetings, Pathfiders." he says in perfect Taldane. "Rackle Rakis, sneak, swordsman, and trap finder at your service!"

EndlessForms |

@Dvalin: don't forget to check into the Discussion thread. Thanks!
A ten-foot-wide hallway curves north, where a flight of stairs descends to a corridor leading to a octagonal central chamber. Iron bars separate this room from the eastern and southern hallways, and the floor of the chamber is painted with what appears to be a night sky filled with stars.
The northern section of the hall surrounding the central chamber features a single shelf that runs along the north and west walls. Dozens of ancient books sit on these shelves, but time has caused the words to fade from their pages, and any attempt to handle the tomes causes them to crumble to dust. Simply scanning the spines reveals many intriguing titles written in Azlanti.
A phrase is carved in Azlanti over the western doors:
Map is now linked up top.

![]() |

"Yeesh, old." Swayaah mumbles as one of the books crumbles to dust. "Can anyone read these?"

![]() |

Afraid that is out of my realm. Kalendir blows on the books to let a small cloud of dust fly from the books. He rubs his hands along a cover in attempts to see it better.

![]() |

"Sorry ... I am little help with languages and geography."

![]() |

Linguistics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Looking at the books, Awen doesn't recognize anything but giggerish. Nodding towards the paining on the floor, Awen says "Looks pretty, but I wonder if it has any other use.."

EndlessForms |

Rackle and Awen are unable to determine the book's names.
Anything else in here? There's one set of doors leading further on.

![]() |

"Well, we tried. Shall we?" Swayaah motions towards the door, checks for any obvious traps and heads through the doors.
As an Urban Ranger, Swayaah has Trapfinding and can find magical traps. +9 Perception and +6 Disable Device vs traps. I assume Rackle can beat both of those, but a second set of eyes can't hurt!

![]() |

"Deeper into the depths, danger and dismemberment at every turn." Rackle says, in an uncanny imitation of a certain instructor at the Grand Lodge. "Can someone at least make a reasonable copy of the titles of those books so that someone with more facility with languages can decipher them for posterity?" he asks.
Rackle has Perception +12, and +14 vs traps, and he has the Trap Spotter Rogue talent that allows him an automatic check against traps he comes within 10ft of.

![]() |

Kalendir lets the others move on ahead. Pulling his bow out he notches an arrow.I will cover the rear so that nothing comes in from the rear.

![]() |

Awen readies his bow, and moves to join Kalendir. "Looks like we are the rear guard!"

EndlessForms |

Beyond the next door is a large room that seems something like a silo-the domed ceiling rises twenty feet above, and the floor drops away into darkness below. A ten-foot-wide stone bridge with no railings crosses the shaft to a hall and door in the opposite side, yet a one-foot-wide gap separates the bridge from either hall. Below, two additional archways lie in the north and south walls of the shaft, thirty feet below the level of the upper entrances.
A figure that appears as a vaguely humanoid monster with the deformed head of a fanged bird and two coiling serpents for legs stands in the center of the bridge.
It says something in a strange language.
When no one answers, it asks again in a more familiar language.

![]() |

"Huh. He, she, it- wants to know why we seek the Enigma Vaults. Personally I'm here to explore and investigate - we don't know what was left here, and too many people have thrown their lives away in these halls."

Yes we do not mean these halls any harm. We were just sent to explore and learn

Awen steps forward and looks at the specter. "We are here to cleanse the evil from this place. We are hear to make it safe for those that may come behind us, and to make the evil things that lair here atone for their misdeeds."

@Dvalin: looks like you accidentally stepped off the bridge. I moved you back on.
Awen seriously wounds one of the snakes as Dvalin raises his blade in anticipation. Sure enough, the snakes slither forward and Dvalin chops the red one in two! The blue snake, however, tries to bite at the dwarf!

Yeah, we kinda nuked these snakes, thanks to a few lucky crits.

Looking forward, he is keen to see any more hinderances.

"Man, another crappy bridge. No stability whatsoever."
As the skeletons spring to life and try to bite her allies, Swayaah frowns. "Rackle, can you get on the other side of that thing? Kalendir's aim is much better than mine..."
Will delay to see if Swayaah can enter melee.
With her path clear, Swayaah pulls out her Masterwork Cold Iron Earthbreaker and takes a swing.

Swayaah's arrow somehow fires off to the side, instead of ahead. "So, as I was saying, Kalendir's aim is better than mine."
