AoO on Zax: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Zax moves in to the room but his weapon is deflected by the man's armor.
Initiative:
1. Umaga and Pierre
2. Mercenary (16 dmg)
3. Hingle, Brak, Zax, and Rhyfelwr
Hingle, Umaga, and Pierre are up!
Pierre Bouthillier |
Pierre moves into the room, provoking an attack from the mercenary, but hoping that he is too busy dealing with Zax's movement. He swings his sickle at the man.
Sickle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Brak Thunderstriker |
I'll be out and about today through most of the day, so I'll post now. Brak will follow up with another swing to the other half of the enemy's torso.
AXE: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 (If a 5' can get me to flank I will. DMG if hit: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Hingle's missile takes down the mercenary!
Out of combat!
On a nearby table you find two doses of oil of bless weapon. The other room where some of the party retreated used to be a bedroom, but has clearly been used as a storage room for quite some time. Boxes and barrels fill most of the room. A trapdoor leading down currently stands open.
Brak Thunderstriker |
"oi. We've got plenty of us who could use those oils, but I wouldn't mind being one to take one."
Brak awaits word from the scout.

You find nothing else up here on the ground floor and seems the only way is down:
This small, stuffy square room was cut from the building’s stone foundation. The room’s east wall features a large stone mosaic of stone that shows several faceless people worshipping at the top, and others being condemned at the bottom, with no figures in the middle pattern. The mosaic contains a set of three identical circular indentations: one set within the top section, one in the empty center, and another set within the bottom section. Illuminating the room are two lit torches in sconces on the north and south walls.
Pierre Bouthillier |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
"Hmm... What do you think we need to do here? I think I saw this in a play once..." Pierre moves up to the torches and begins to pull on them, trying to get them to turn.
Brak Thunderstriker |
Taking 10 on perception.
"it appears we have a sort of keyed entry here."
I remember this room well. I'll back off to let others work it.

I'm not sure if everyone has played it or not but if everyone has played this before, go ahead and just give the answer.
Brak Thunderstriker |
Do it. Do it.

Rhy is an expert at such things and solves the puzzle, allowing you to open the door without fear of any blasts of fire.
Below, the room is split by a long, ten-foot-wide stone walkway, extending sixty feet east to west between two spiral staircases. Two ladders rest on the north side of the walkway and two more on the south, leading down into a fifteen-foot-wide trench twenty feet below. These sub-rooms are filled with objects ranging from decrepit suits of rusted armor, to piles of rotting furs, and to various over-stuffed footlockers.
Brak Thunderstriker |
I assume we're officially "underground" now?
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"Lads looks like a storage area. Let's check it for hidden enemies, treasure, and secrets. In that order."
Brak will stride forth with axe in hand.
EndlessForms |
Yep. Very much underground.
Pierre moves across the room and pulls the lever but nothing happens. In searching the room, you discover that there is a lever in each of the four corners of the room.
Brak Thunderstriker |
"Ach, you sure you pulled hard enough? There are a bunch more levers. Let's pull'em all. I'll stand here and try to either bend bars or lift gates."
(Waiting for others to pull levers Brak will try the gate itself.) Bend Bars/Lift gates: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
EndlessForms |
Pierre pulls another lever but it seems all four need to be pulled at once for the mechanism to work. However, Pierre's movement about the room seems to have attracted the attention of something else hiding behind some of the crates and barrels: two rolling waves of flesh wriggling forward on half-formed limbs!
Forgot these guys aren't invisible like the ones at the 3-4 tier.
lem: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Umaga: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Hingle: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Zax: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Pierre: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Initiative:
1. Rhyfelwr, Brack, Zax, Umaga, Pierre, and Hingle
2. Baddies
You guys are up!
Zax Groud |
I seem to be on the map in two places. In any case, I'll move down to take on the southern enemy. I assume they are down the ladder so I'll probably need to double move to get there.
Hingle McCringleberry |
Kn (planes): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Oh my! Hingle exclaims as the beasts come into view. Lemures! Er, I should say, demons! You'll need silver or good weapons to effectively hurt them! Well, not "need" as such, but they're resistant to non-silver or non-good weaponry, so... he trails off before finding his train of thought again. Oh! No fire or poison — they're immune, and by immune I mean no effect at all — while acid or cold don't do much to them! They're not immune, though; just resistant.
Hingle uses his wand on Blue!
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
EndlessForms |
Huh. When I moved you guys last night it seems it copied some of you for no apparent reason. Fixed!
Rhy's arrow doesn't have full effect against the blob creature but it still hurts the lemure nonetheless! Hingle follows this with a force missile that leaves the devil even more wounded!
Initiative:
1. Rhyfelwr, Brak, Zax, Umaga, Pierre, and Hingle
2. Baddies
blue: 8 dmg
Zax, Umaga, and Pierre are up!
Pierre Bouthillier |
Pierre doesn't want to be the frontliner, so he draws his sickle and hammer and waits in the corner, hoping for a flank with his mithril sickle.

Umaga stabs the devil! The devils fight back weakly!

damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
claw on Zax: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Lol! Confirms:
claw on Umaga: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
claw on Zax: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
You then quickly destroy the weakling devils.
Out of combat!
Brak Thunderstriker |
"Ha! That was easy. I'm glad I didn't waste this little flask on those mounds of filth. Let's get back to those levels. I got an itchin' to pull'em"
EndlessForms |
You are able to pull all of the levers simultaneously and open the gate to the next set of stairs heading down.
Single file going down! Please let me know the order. There definitely aren't baddies waiting below.
Brak Thunderstriker |
If Zax's code requires him to go first no problem. Otherwise I'm behind a scout.

Pierre Bouthillier |
Pierre will follow behind the dwarf. "Easier to see over your than the rest of them." he comments to Brak offhandedly.
He keeps his sickle at the ready, but leaves his other hand open, clad in his spiked gauntlet. "Oi! Let's be quick about it! I have a nice brie and cheese plate to get to!" he yells to Zax.
Brak Thunderstriker |
Zax, Brak, Pierre, ....
Brak takes the comment with an understanding harrumph but then cracks the slightest of smiles.

Zax and Brak just make it down the stairs when a crossbow fires from down the hall at the paladin!
mwk heavy crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

"Well, come and get me, f$+*ers."
The long hallway ahead stretches between two spiral staircases at either end. The walls contain deep notches and cuts at five-foot-intervals. Skeletal remains litter the floor, and among them rests the recently slain corpse of an elf, his arms torn off and several feet from his body.
The man down the hall reloads his crossbow and pulls it back up to his shoulder.

Brak Thunderstriker |
With Zax blocking the path, there isn't much I can do...
Brak gives a warcry and tries to bowl through Zax for a charging power attack. (I'll delay for the opening or if you'll let me charge in I'll do that. Either way, here it is:)
1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 - 2 = 22 DMG if hit: 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

You could double-move, I don't think you could charge.
As Brak pushes past Zax to get at the mercenary, an axe swings down from the ceiling to catch the dwarf!
attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Want to finish up your second move or stay there? ;)

Brak Thunderstriker |
I JUST ran this and totally forgot about that. :-)
I'll finish the double move.
