Hello, gamers!

I am going to be running one of Paizo's older modules, Entombed with the Pharaohs. Set in Osirion, this has elements of films like The Mummy-- mummies, curses, traps, curses, intrigue, curses, theft, curses, and the potential to die in interesting and horrible ways (from curses).

The module is heavy on the old-school dungeon delve and some thievin' too. I can never assess these things with 100% accuracy because so much depends on party make-up, but it certainly has the potential to be a lethal adventure.

I am a good GM for you if you:

-Value roleplay over 'rollplay'
-Put thought into your tags
-Have decent reading comprehension
(players who have no idea what is going on because they aren't paying attention to what the GM and other players have typed are a big pet peeve of mine)
-Like the PBP format
-Trust the GM to make rolls for your character
-Can tag once a day
-Can use Roll20.net for maps/etc

I will be accepting four level 6 characters. The module anticipates that you will level up twice in the course of the adventure, and I anticipate it will take at least six months real time to complete, if not longer, so please don't apply if you don't think you can commit to that.

Character creation:

Level: 6!
Classes/archetypes allowed: Any Paizo. I will look at any application given, but I judge some classes more harshly than others (gunslingers and summoners, primarily), so you had better blow me away with the app for those classes. Eastern-themed classes are also a hard sell to me if your character is actually from the Dragon Empires; be prepared to justify via roleplay why your character is on this side of the world.
Races: I told Shaggar in the interest check that if he can justify why a gnoll works for the Pathfinder Society, he can play a gnoll. So yes, I'm allowing more exotic races, but again: better sell me with your app. No custom races.
Backstory: Oh yeah, your characters are members of the Pathfinder Society. The Society doesn't feature terribly heavily into the scenario, but you should at least know what it IS, and things like why your character joined the Society, and how they feel about the Society.
Stats: I'm permitting either a 20-point buy; or 4d6, drop 1, arrange the stats where you like them.
Starting gold: 16,000. Whatever you can afford, you can have. Additional Houserule: If your character has ranks in a Craft, Profession, or Perform skill, or Sleight of Hand, I am permitting a one-time check to be included with your application. Multiply the check result by 25. The total is gold added to your 16K, to reflect additional income your character has managed to acquire through practicing their livelihood.

Quote:
Example: Silas is a bard with Perform: Act +13. He rolls a 7, for a total of 20. 20x25 = 500. Silas starts character creation with 16,500 gold, to reflect the additional gold he received by entertaining fellow travelers on the long road from Absalom to Osirion...

You can receive this extra gold only once, off one check. If you have multiple qualifying skills, pick your best one to make the check.

Alignments: I allow any alignment. I also allow evil characters to suffer natural consequences for playing the alignment Stupid Evil, up to and including their party members staking them out in the desert at mid-day on top of fire ant mounds.

HP: Max at first level. For following levels, you can either roll (do the rolls in your application), or take half-plus-one HP per level. A barbarian would get 6 + 1 (plus Con modifier after that) per level, for example.

Traits: Stick with two. You can reflavor stuff all you want to get the mechanical benefit of trait X in a way that applies to your character.

More backstory stuff: This is not a campaign with HUGE amount of social roleplay, but it does have some moments. I don't expect that you need to soliloquize about your character's thoughts and dreams when he or she is running screaming from a mummy, but I do want your thief/fighter/wizard to feel like an actual character. You should have at least one paragraph in your application for each of the following: Backstory, Personality, and Physical Appearance.

Iiiii think that's everything. If I've missed anything, I'm sure that sharp-eyed applicants will remind me!

Oh yeah, recruitment will close Monday the 16th.

Scarab Sages

i'd need to tweak the character but could easily level up Vorthos to meet these criteria he's a Mindchemist his backstory and character sheet are posted

Woot! Let me see what I can crank Shaggar to with 6 levels and cash!

EDIT: Traits? How do you want to do HPs?

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

See, I knew I'd forget something. Thanks, Shaggar.

*goes to edit*

De nada!

Any objection to a ranger having an animal companion? I know having too many 'familiars' kicking around can be a pain for a DM at times. I'm thinking about giving Shaggar a hyena.

Scarab Sages

hehe shaggar wants a mini me :)

lol

I do, I really do. :D

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

Given that we'll only be a party of four, I'll allow it. An effective table of four-and-a-half PCs is not so bad. :P

(I GMed a scenario at my local PFS the other day where when you counted out all the animals/etc on the board, we had an effective table of eight. Never again.)

I'm like 90% sure I'm gonna submit a local halfling thief named Javi theWasp.

Let me do some considering, though.

While not officially a pathfinder, he is sometimes hired on as a 'pathfinder resource' when they need a certain set of skills.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

That would be an acceptable way to work in why he is on this mission, yep.

Cool. And his backstory is going to tie Javi to the society pretty well. :)

Interested. I'll have to give the module some thought to come up a good concept.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

Oh, and I'd prefer completed sheets to be formatted in the Pathfinder stat block format (like so), but as long as it's easy to read (Shaggar's is fine regarding formatting, for instance), it does not have to be exactly like that.

Scarab Sages

will edit Vorthos into that format soon

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

Thank you. I also noticed you are WELL over your encumbrance with Vorthos at the moment-- I counted at least 100 pounds of gear. Something to think about when you do your leveling up.

Scarab Sages

haha yeah he had a tendency to go hey here ill trade you extracts for being my personal mule with the people i played with
(muleback cord should solve most of this)

Dotting with interest. Not sure what I'm submitting yet, though.

Scarab Sages

updated just need to give it a look over and decide on gear

Liberty's Edge

I'm interested! This is the level 5 ranger I already use for PFS. I've thoroughly enjoyed playing him thus far. I should be able to tweak him up to level 6 and drop in his back story (with a little modification there as well for your story). I'll create it under a new alias and submit it officially later tonight.

Grand Lodge

As stated in the previous thread, I'm Tarondor and I'd love to play!

Apologies, Dien. I should have run this past you before. Since there is no official Gnoll PC build, I modeled Shaggar off the 9 RP ARG Gnoll build found here: John Mangrum's Gnoll

If that's not acceptable, please let me know.

I am presently considering a Paladin for this module (Undead Scourge). Do you foresee any difficulty in the campaign for a Paladin (or feel, as some do, that having a Paladin in the group is too restrictive)?

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

Shaggar- That looks fine regarding the gnoll mechanics.

Tarondor/Terramor- Just in case it wasn't clear, this is not applicable for PFS credit. You're welcome to apply with Terramor, it just won't get you anything other than the fun of playin', and he should be level 6 if you want to play him in this. Go ahead and post some level 6 stats if you like.

Rigor- There's definitely undead around in this campaign, I'm sure everyone's shocked. ;) I personally love pallies and I'm never going to say that it's too restrictive to have a paladin in the group, but I will slightly spoil things by letting you know that theft may be one of the party's most useful tactics. It's up to you if you WANT to play a paladin, knowing that.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Oh. Well, Terramor's a complicated guy to run in PBP anyway. Is it okay if I just whip up a 6th level character of my choosing, then?

I'm thinking archaeologist bard, maybe.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

Totally fine to whip up a 6th level, yep. Go ahead and use the character creation guidelines posted above!

Pallies are one of my favorite classes too. I suppose part of the decision might be influenced by how restrictive you play the Paladin code. For instance, some GM's have no issue allowing Paladins to act in accordance with the usual rules of engagement when fighting evil; using ambush tactics against evil foes, stealing from thieves who have no right to the property in question, or executing a clearly deviant creature or captive when there is no chance for redemption, and/or no access to legitimate law enforcement to do the job. Other GM's take a much stricter stance and feel that Paladins must always announce their presence, never steal, even when stealing back stolen property, and always take villains alive when possible.

I am fine with all the interpretations, anywhere on the spectrum, but knowing where a GM stands is generally important and useful to know before committing to playing one.

Time for some stats:

4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 6) = 18 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 6) = 23 = 18
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 6) = 13 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 2) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 2) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 5) = 14 = 12

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

Niiiice stats.

I was about to say that pallies have to be run as LG before I remembered this is not a PFS game and I am the GM and all the power is miiiiiiiiiiiiine. *evil laughter*

-coff, that is to say, I'm a fan of the whole 'paladin must follow the code of his/her god' take on things. A theoretical paladin of Calistria, for instance, would consider it a holy act to deceive and trick someone, and Calistria would be down with that.

So.... it would depend on your god, basically.

(I'm NOT a fan of GMing that actively tries to make paladins fall.) If you go paladin of Iomedae, Iomedae would be stricter about the codes of honorable warfare, and obedience to the law, than a paladin of Pharasma, who would be more concerned with if the paladin were associating with a necromancer... but either way I would run with the whole 'you get a tingly feeling from your god that this is not a thing you ought to be doing' way to address possible alignment infringements.

Cool. Sounds like we're on the same page. I am assuming what you are saying is that Paladin's can be dedicated to any god, and that their alignment must match that of their deity?

Paladin of Pharasma actually sounds like it would be pretty interesting... and fit well with the Undead Scourge. Hmmm...

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

Yep, pretty much. Arguably the paladins of evil gods are no longer called 'paladins', but that's just semantics.

Inquisitors of Pharasma are fun too. :3

Javi the Wasp is written up (if hastily). Mechanics are to come, but I have a quick write-up on who he is on his profile. Here's a snapshot, though.

At an inch or so over two and a half feet tall, Javi's small… even for a halfling. Despite his diminutive stature, he moves with a quick surety that speaks of speed and power. His clothes are a mishmash of colors and patterns, some items looking expensive while others are clearly rags… some of them even fit. Surprisingly, a well-worn mithral breastplate peeks out from beneath his shirt, and the handle of a scimitar sticks out over his right shoulder, mirrored by that of a shortbow over his left. His skin is a dark tan, and his eyes and hair are a brown so dark they appear black. And his grin is never so big as when he's in the middle of doing something stupid and/or dangerous.
    .
Javi is a daredevil and an adrenaline junky. He's competitive, brash, and has the arrogance of those lucky or gifted enough to survive lives as risky as his. He's also a mercurial little guy… quick to laugh and quick to anger. He tends toward be sarcastic and flippant. All put together, Javi can be a bit obnoxious, and grates on many people's nerves. But if you can look past all that, he's a surprisingly decent little guy. Buried under the dislike for custom and law is a nugget of a good heart… embodied by the holy symbol of Sarenrae that is buried under layers of rags and clothes.
    .
Javi is a semi-reformed thief and budding follower of the Dawnflower. Due to some interesting circumstances from his youth, he's also an Osiriana resource for the pathfinders… when a 'certain set of skills' is necessary for the job.

Oh, and Ima roll dem dice!

4d6 - 4 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 4) - 4 = 16
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 2) - 1 = 14
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 2) - 1 = 6
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 3) - 3 = 14
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 6) - 3 = 17
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 2) - 1 = 11

I can deal with that. :)

Mechanics to come based on these.

dot/rolling for interest..

4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 2) - 2 = 17
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 2) - 1 = 9
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 5) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 4) - 1 = 13
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 3) - 3 = 17
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 6) - 3 = 14

I have trouble imagining how a True Neutral Paladin would behave.

Clip

"I have no feelings regarding anything, but I am very passionate about that lack of feeling."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

dien, I am thinking of an Aasimar; do you allow the variant ability table?

Variant Abilities: 1d100 ⇒ 88 = Holy Weapon 3 rounds per day
Physical Features: 1d100 ⇒ 39 = Hands leave contrails. Cool.

dien wrote:

Great! Thanks! I'll try to have a fully updated version of Shaggar - fluff included - by the end of the weekend.

This is my submission for Seferneru, an Osiriani fighter who once dreamed of being a monk. He is a tough fighter with a two-handed weapon, an Osirion patriot, Living Monolith and a health-nut.

This guy was waiting for the right adventure to be submitted since almost a year ago...

Let's see that Profession check
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 x25 = 300

Background:

Seferneru was born from a family of serfs working in the white-walled palace of Sothis where the reigning Khemet dynasty lives. As he grew up he knew that his future held a life of servitude in the name of his Ruby Prince, and he was ok with that: he spent countless hours in his youth enchanted by the engravings, frescos and paintings upon the walls of the palace, and grew up convinced of the greatness of the nation of Osirion.

As he got into puberty and teenage years, he became stronger and fitter – a career in the army of the Ruby Prince seemed like the best bet for him.
At the age of thirteen happened the defining moment of his life: a delegation from Jalmeray came to the Ruby Prince court, escorted by the masters of the Diamond Crane monastery. Seferneru was amazed by their composure, the perfection of their movements, their total mastery over their own bodies. That was the road he wished to follow.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. He was too old to start the training, the elder monks said; his family wasn’t able to afford a proper gift to the monastery for them to accept their son; and finally, training in the Diamond Crane temple meant swearing to serve the maharajah of Jalmeray instead of his own country.

Seferneru was disappointed for a while, but then reacted. He enlisted in the Osirian army, learning the armed fighting style of his people, but always trying to follow the self-imposed rules of healthiness, control and precision that he learned from watching the monks. He grew up tough and disciplined, a model soldier, rising in the ranks of the Osiriani army.

His greatest hope was to die in service of Prince Khemet and be deemed worthy of being resurrected, thus becoming part of the elite Risen Guard. But his destiny held for him an even bigger honor.
Impressing in his dedication to his country and his battle prowess, he was brought in front of the Sphinxes, immortal guardians of Osirion. These magical creatures offered him the possibility to become a Living Monolith, turning his flesh into the stone of immortal warriors of the past, all in the greater glory of Osirion. Never he had hoped for such an honor: the Living Monoliths were actually as disciplined as the Vdrani monks, and completely faithful to the Prince! His dreams were coming true. Maybe one day his stone body will still defend, ageless, the white walls of the Royal Palace.

After the ritual, not much has changed. He is still a honored member of the Osiriani army, but now his skillset and power has greatly increased, making him perfect for special missions in the name of Ruby Prince. When the Prince learned of the Pathfinder expedition, sent Seferneru to Amenopheus, the Sage who supervises the Osirion faction of the Society. He was immediately deemed a perfect fit for the expedition after a few tests for the Society, issued a Wayfinder and sent back to his native Osirion.

Personality:
Seferneru lives by the saying “treat your body like a temple”.
When the others adventurers feast upon roasted boar meat and ale, he orders rice, fish and boiled vegetables. When not adventuring, he keeps in shape by training and exercising.
Slow to anger, very composed but ruthlessly efficient when given a task, he is a soldier at heart, at ease when he has orders to follow.
His devotion goes to the Ruby Prince and the nation of Osirion first, then to the Sphinxes and Living Monoliths, and only last to the Decemvirate and his fellow Pathfinders. He will help them, fight for them and take orders from a respected leader, but only to the extent that these orders do not go against his most glorious nation.

While the most extravagant among adventurers would call him boring and unfunny, he is actually a pleasant and dedicated companion, not too wordy nor quick-witted, but intelligent and well-educated.

Appearance:
Seferneru is a towering man, well over six feet and heavily muscled: he moves with the grace and power of a great feline. His posture is perfect: even when resting, sitting or lying down, he is perfectly composed, never unseemly or disordered. When he stands still, he is almost unnaturally immobile. When he gains momentum, he looks unstoppable like a rolling boulder.
His skin is the light tanned brown typical of Osirion, but it assumes sort of a greyish, opaque quality in the right light. He doesn’t seem to shave, and yet his face and head are completely and absolutely hairless at any moment. In the middle of his forehead is embedded a beautiful ruby jewel resembling a scarab.
Where other adventurers wear elaborate and outlandish outfits, under his breastplate (engraved with the Ruby Prince scarab) he wears only a simple linen chiton.

Javi is pretty much finished and ready for review/comments. I haven't spent all his gold, but I imagine that wont' happen until (and if) he gets accepted and is preparing with the rest of the group.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts, Dien. :)

4d6 - 6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 6) - 6 = 18
4d6 - 4 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 5) - 4 = 15
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 4, 6, 1) - 1 = 14

WOOT! I can work with this.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Holy Carp! I guess so!

I would like this to be my first Pathfinder game. I want to create a CN Lamashtu worshipping human cleric. I have some questions about this though.

1) Is this concept alright with you, dien?

2) Does anyone know of a good free character creation program? I tried sCoreForge, but it won't open on my Mac.

3) Will elements from Ultimate Campaign or Mythic Adventures be used?

EDIT: Skill points? How many do we get?

I actually changed my mind on the concept. Archeologist Bard seems to be more appropriate, wouldn't you say?

Stats rolls:

This could work.

Wow... nice rolls, Shaggar and Werepox!

And while we're at it, I'll go ahead and pre-roll Javi's house-rule Sleight of Hand starting gold.

Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33 x 25 = 825 extra gold.

Questions:

Aasimar variant abilities: Sure, why not.

Free character programs: Nope, don't know of any, sorry.

Ultimate Campaign/Mythic Rules: I'm not terribly familiar on what content comes from what book. I am definitely not using the Mythic ruleset though; regular Pathfinder. If you have a specific something from Ultimate Campaign that you wanted to use, run it by me.

What we've got so far, in order of completeness:

Seferneru, Rocky Balboa I mean fighter, [Airon] - on my first glance the app looks complete, will go over it more closely. Fun concept.
Javi the Wasp, halfling rogue, [Eben] - on my first glance the app looks complete, will go over it more closely, yay halflings

Vorthos, Mindchimist alchemist, [Oberon] - your statblock is lacking your skills. Backstory and personality are rather light
Shaggar, gnoll ranger, [Stormraven] - level 6 application needed
Riken Urtheson, human fighter, [pebcakerror] - level 6 application needed, with personality/backstory/etc

Unnamed possible aasimar paladin, [Rigor] - application needed
Unnamed possible archaelogist bard, [Tieflingwizard] - application needed
Unnamed possible archaelogist bard, [Tarondor] - application needed

If I missed anyone, let me know.

This is Tarondor's submission. Hope you like it!

Javi:
Javi, is your weapon attack reflecting that Power Attack is always on? That's the only way the +11 damage is adding up to me.

No questions other than that. I like the backstory and personality.

Seferneru:
Have yet to see a living monolith in play-- this is a cool concept and backstory that I think makes for interesting potential in the setting. Mechanically everything looks legal to me.

Scarab Sages

i will expand my back story might change one or two items around im kinda modelling his personality on sheldon from big bang ill get skill posted now

Yes. Sorry. I didn't realize i had left that toggled in HeroLabs. He'll most likely usually use it anyway, but I'll probably adjust it back to standard for ease of reading.

Let me know if you end up having any more questions.... this is the only halfling I've ever played. The availability of their speed racial option and Risky Striker really made them the tiny linebackers i always wanted to play. :D

Here's the link to my character in progress: Abram

Most of the crunch is done, but I haven't had a chance to type up his backstory yet. I have one in mind, but I won't get a chance to spell it out until the kids are in bed for the night.

Okay, not Mythic ruleset. But what about story feats, backgrounds, or the more character options from Ultimate Campaign? Here are some links to the specific sections on d20pfsrd.com so you can look over them.

Story Feats

More character options, including backgrounds

Also, I spent a good while after work, working on my character. 52 skill points. I had to set up 52 skill points. And to those who are wondering where I got 52 from, well 40 as my base after my class choices and my +1 Int modifier.

Here's my breakdown:

Classes: Bard (archeologist) 5 (so 6 + 1 x 5 is 35)/Apsis Agent 1 (4 + 1 is 5). Then I had 6 more points from my human racial traits. So now it's 46 points. Then I chose 6 more points for favored class. And the final score is 52 skill points

So, now going on the house-rule starting gold addition.
Craft (Traps): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 x 25 = 600 extra gp.
So I start with 16,600 gold. Nice.
