Sashah hangs back a ways from his sneaking allies. He says a prayer to Mystra (casts Sanctuary). He then pulls out a book from his pack and begins reading as he casually walks.

Nanbu and Saphina step closer to the hut. They notice that the latch on the door is weak. When they are about 5' away, Saphina steps on a twig which breaks with a snapping sound.

Then five humanoid creatures burst out of the hut. Their skin is sickly yellow and there is a look of hunger on them. They reach out and charge towards the party.

Nanbu, Saphina and Sashah can act first. The zombies are 5' away from Nanbu and Saphina and not engaged. The rest of the party is about 20' away. We'll just theatre of the mind this for now.

”See Sashah! We totally should have gotten some holy water!” The halfling draws her shield and rapier while stepping back just a few feet staying firmly between her enemy and the others. With a lamenting sigh she adds ”Guess we’ll have to send these souls back to the grave the old fashioned way.”

it changes nothing but I added my Init modifier to my banner. Sorry for not having it there b4. Free action to draw rapier and standard action to equip shield. Not moving away just repositioning.


Nanbu blasts one of the zombies, tearing away a chunk of flesh from its shoulder, exposing rotting flesh.

Saphina braces herself for combat.

Sashah pulls out a thick leatherbound book from his pack and incants a short phrase as a small bolt of fire emerges from his outstretched hand. The bolt zips toward the zombie that Nanbu blasted.

dmg: 1d10 ⇒ 4

As the bolt collides with the zombie Sashah grumbles back, "Yes, yes. you were right. Focus more on them."


The zombie is burned by Sashah's bolt. With surprising speed, it closes the gap between itself and the warlock and swings hands with sharp claws at Nanbu. Its claws tear into the warlock.
Zombie 1 attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Two of the zombies rush towards Saphina and strike at the little halfling. The halfling manages to push away the creatures attacks with her shield.

The remaining zombies rush towards the rest of the party. One goes for Skyreaver and the other towards Adrian. One slashes at Skyreaver, drawing blood but the other just punches at Adrian's armour.

Nanbu smiles when he notices Skyreaver's magic, then draws his own club, intricately carved in a dark wood. He whispers some soft words and the wood seems to swell and grow into a wicked looking greatclub! Cast shillelagh like Skyreaver! :)[/ooc]

Then with a nasty grin, Nanbu swings on the zombie before him!

Saphina peaks around her shield after she felt both zombies batter into n her shield in unison. Just as she suspected they were drawing back for another wave of attacks but before that could happen she makes a quick slash of her rapier trying to take off a limb or something making the double attack harder to pull off.

NICE roll on that burning hands Rakdon!


Rakdon steps up near Saphina and unleashes his spell. It scorches the two zombies and they writhe in pain, their dry skin crackling.

Zombie 2 save: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8
Zombie 3 save: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4

Nanbu's club lashes out and strikes the head of the zombie.

Despite the head of the creature being at an angle it is still standing!

Saphina stabs at the still burning zombie and runs her rapier through it. It still refuses to fall though. They try to attack her but in the smoke and confusion they can't strike the wily halfling.

Sashah's firebolt catches the zombie facing Nanbu, but it just won't die!

Nanbu grunts as the zombie tears at his chest and swings again, holding the club tightly with two hands!

Adrian's Greatsword strikes the zombie, and the divine power of his blow brings down the undead. It gives a sigh of relief as it falls, as though grateful from being released from the curse of undeath. A sudden stench of rot fills the area.

Rakdon's spell strikes behind the two zombies. While they are faster than regular zombies, their wild jerky motions make them just as vulnerable. The acid burns their skin and the badly damaged one falls, but then stands up again. Green light flickers in its eye sockets.

Zombie 2 save: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Zombie 3 save: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4

Nanbu has figured out how the creatures move and tries to bring the one facing him down again.

The two remaining zombies launch their attacks. One on Nanbu and the other on Saphina.

Nanbu lets out a roar in frustration, calling upon the power of some ancient being! Cast armor of Agathys! Gain 10 temp hp and the next time I get hit, my attacker takes 10 cold damage.

Rakdon's acid splash burns the zombie's body but it doesn't seem to notice the attack.

GM, who were you referring to? I marked down the 7 hp damage from the zombie that hit me, if that was aimed at me. On my turn, I am casting to give me a buffer and a damage aura. Probably should have done that first. :p

Ahh, that was from the first batch of swings... Gotcha!


Will just finish off the combat as you guys have this pretty much in hand.

Skyreaver brings his club against the head of the zombie and crushes it. The one facing Nanbu reaches out and touches his armor. It freezes and the cold flows all over its body. It finally collapses to the ground and the green light in its eyes fade.

Combat over

Inside the hut smells of death. Whatever furnishings in this hut are all rotted or destroyed. Half a dozen long iron chains are fixed to the ground, each ending in manacles at their opposite ends. There are several animal carcasses in here as well as the severed remains of a couple of humanoids.

The large hut is 20' away from the small one.

Would an 18 passive Investigation offer any information about what happened? Perhaps, if these zombies were some of the missing people?


From the clothes and the state of their bodies, it does seem like the zombies are some of the missing locals. All of the clothes are common and unlikely to be those of anyone from Alastar's household.

The zombies appear to have been chained. It seems obvious that someone has been feeding them but not for a while. When the party members came near they broke their rusty chains and charged out.

Nanbu nods several times as he notes each clue, Nanbu thinks these are some of the common-folk that went missing, but Nanbu do not see rich man's servant.

Looking out the door, he continues, Perhaps, other hut has more knowledge to give.

After looking at the others to gauge their demeanor, the Chultan guide heads out toward the large hut. It is clear that he is hurting, but seems driven somehow to continue on, despite his own condition.

Saphina moves forward quickly ”Nanbu, you are hurt, let me take the lead. Trust me, I won’t let ya down. ” She continues cautiously toward the larger hut. At the door if nothing else happens she will listen at the door for any sound from inside.

Nanbu turns and looks at Saphina with a smile on his face. His eyes are crystal blue now and frost rimes the vines hugging his chest, Little one, Nanbu will walk alongside you. Your skill with that shield is noted and Nanbu will allow you to take the lead.

Seeing Nanbu's wounds mentioned, Skyreaver will call him over, then wave her hands and begin chanting. As she does so, motes of light pour into his wound, and when the light fades, the wound is greatly diminished.

Nanbu breathes deeply of the healing magicks, Nanbu deeply thanks the Cutter of Heavens. Nanbu hopes to find some of the missing, still alive.


As Saphina said, Skyreaver took 6 damage early on in the battle

Saphina steps to the side and says I don’t hear anything. I’ll need some help with door though.


The door is locked. Saphina attempts to use her thieves tools to unlock it and she hears a satisfying click. She then attempts to open the door; as she does so, a needle flies right at her.

Con save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 ;)

Fortunately, it is primed to strike a human at chest height and the needle flies right over the head of the halfling.

Inside the hut, the functional décor of this hut consists of a small table with a few chairs that takes up the center with a small desk and a bed tucked into either of the rear corners. Much of the air here is stale, and it looks as if the occupants haven’t been here in quite some time.
