Hi all, just cracked open my books and am looking to start a 2e DnD Campaign based in Cormyr. Might have a bit of Dales and Anauroch, looking at Basic DnD Races and Classes with the Splatbooks allowed. I'll have a list hopefully, of Books I am using. Or at least a website to reference,
I hope to build an intriguing story around the party and Cormyr specifically.

Hey Critzible, this sounds intriguing - what is the plan, a trip through iconic FR modules, or more of a Sandbox endeavor?
And if I may inquire - why 2e and not AD&D or OSRIC? :)
Semi SandBoxy. I am more comfortable with 2e, it's the system I started on. I can allow 1e Classes like Monk, Cavalier, etc. Though still gonna go with 2e.
Gonna mix some pregens with other events. As well as converted systems.

I also kinda started with 2e back in the day - after a short time with BECMI.
My question was mostly curiosity - to be honest I am perfectly fine with 2e Core rules only (no alternative rules like proficiencies, no splatbooks, etc). I feel like some of the added stuff (like the OP kits) brought on imbalance, unnecessary complexity, etc.
Pregens is a great idea.

Shout out to For Gold and Glory - they did a pretty good job with AD&D2e, in my opinion.

I am sticking to the Core Rule Book Races
Classes
Warrior: Fighter, Cavalier, Paladin, Ranger, Harper
Priest, Cleric, Druid ,Crusader, Mystic, Monk, Specialty Priests
Magic-User: Mage, Specialist Mage, Elementalist, Dimensionalist, Force Mage, Mentalist, Shadow Mage, Alchemist, Artificer, Geometer, Song Mage, Wild Mage, Spellsinger
Thief: Thief, Bard, Ninja, Trader, Shadowwalker, Monk(Alt)
Clerics, Crusaders, Druids, Mystics, and Monks are given special powers and can use a Favored weapon.
Also, all classes can use a dagger and a knife.
I will probably do all stats are at 10, and you roll 1d8 down the board. Plus will do Comeliness.

Cavalier is in the Dragonlance, Trader is Dark Sun, Assassin is Grey Hawk, Monk(Alt) is Grey Hawk, Others are Tome of Magic and Skills and Powers, Spells and Magic,
Harper,Spellsinger,Shadwowalker is the Realms-specific splat books
have a website with a lot of this on it. So you don't have to pour through your library

Thanks for the information about the classes. I always want to play my very first RPG character and Invoker.

If you are doing stats rolled in order, it would be best I think to wait till I have stats to see what I would want to play.
BTW: 2d6 average roll 7 + 6 average stat 13
1d8 average roll 4.5 + 10 average stat 14.5
1d10 average roll 5.5 + 8 average stat 13.5
Personally I'd take your 1d8+10 but it's really all up to the dice roller.

Personally, I think it would be fun rolling stats in order and playing whatever class the dice rolls turn up to be. I've been playing for so long, I'm comfortable playing any race & class. I really like the 2d6+6 due to the chance of getting an 8 or 9. The PCs aren't superheroes, imo.
I, myself, would stick with PHB classes & races If i get the chance to play in your game.
Just my 2 cp.
Funny what you rolled for the 2d6+6. Three 10s and three 7s. Lol.
Another suggestion: maybe go with the official AD&D Living Campaign rules for character creation.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I will simply echo most of roll4initiative's words here :)
For me - definitely stick with PHB Classes and Races only. No optional rules (no proficiencies, etc), and no 'Completes' kits or anything. That would be my preference. I am not against kits 'per se', but there are some who are stronger than others. I prefer when they are introduced already as part of the game - 'After your many adventures in the High Seas, you have now unlocked the Buccaneer kit for Rogues' or... 'After many endeavours in the arenas, you have now unlocked the Gladiator kit for Fighters' - stuff like that.
I do really like the randomness of die rolls to define ability scores and class, but I am always a bit on the fence about it when it comes to 2e, because 2e is very unforgiving with 'middle of the road' ability scores.
For example, there is a huge difference between a Fighter with Str 15, and another with 18/76. So perhaps being able to adjust up and down somehow might be interesting.

I am sure we can find some pregens around the www ;)
And I am only suggesting it because I feel like pregens are a good way to get right into the action and learn a new system.
Maybe just do a prequel one shot kind of thing, so people can test drive it, see if they like it?
No strings attached so on and so forth.

I haven't found any so far.
