So, for those of us who would rather die than *watch* announcements, can anyone fill us in on the “big news”?

"Revenge of the Runelords", a new high-level mythic AP centered around the return of Xanderghul, announced for Oct-Dec 2025.

We'll have more to say about "Revenge of the Runelords" in the coming months, particularly once we hit Paizocon.

That said, this was less of an "announcement" and more a "Runelords 101" class where me, Erik, Greg, Michelle, and Bill talked all sorts of Runelord stuff as a retrospective type thing. Think of it more as what you would see in a panel at a convention called "History and Future of the Runelords" I suppose.

Big question: Will the AP have modifications in it to play it without Mythic?

The big question here. I'd like to know this as well.

There will also be a Runelord-related Mythic Destiny. Suitable for characters who want to become Runelords, or who might be reincarnated Runelords or possessed by dead ones.

Oooh. I'm glad to see Paizo making good on the promise to make more mythic destinies.

Super excited about the announcement. I'm just finishing Return of the Runelords with my group now. Looks like I can queue up the song that I used for Xanderghul's theme song all over again - it sounds like it might be even more applicable now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbZuY36ClDA

Not "built in," no, but that's a good thing to give advice for in the Player's Guide.

In 2nd edition, it's easier to strip out the mythic than in 1st edition. For monsters and magic items, it's kind of a matter of just removing the abilities and features that are granted by mythic power. But there's not gonna be room to do anything like a "dual stat" presentation.

Mythic adventures have a heavier lean toward tougher encounters overall, so if you aren't playing with mythic PCs, you as the GM will probably want to be more permissive on letting them stop to rest and catch their breath, since we skew more toward the Moderate/Severe/Extreme encounters in these adventures.

Hopefully the boards will be able to provide plenty of real-world advice too!

Hah, I called it, it's the return of Xan-Xan! :D

Most excellent, I've been craving Runelord content. Although now I'm worried about Sorshen. I hope nothing bad happens to her, she's one of my favorite characters from the setting.

I haven't really looked at the mythic rules, but from what I've gotten through internet osmosis, they are not the system breaking terror they were in 1E. I'll get to them when the time comes in a few years to play this AP (we still got to get to Return of the Runelords as a 2E conversion, currently still on Strange Aeons). If necessary they can be removed and the AP run as as normal. Luckily in 2E it is very easy to adapt encounters.

Just gotta say, I love how the meme has become real; we've been making jokes of "Revenge of the Return of the Rise of the Runelords" for years, and now it's come to pass! Kinda.

I really, really hope we get stats for the Alara'hai, and hopefully also the Alara'quin, in this AP! They're some of my fave magic items in the setting. I'm a sucker for sets of themed intelligent weapons.

A few of them, but from the office of expectation management:

Spoiler:
The swords of sin do not appear in this adventure path at all.

A while back I was asking for a sequel to Rusthenge and I think k people got confused with what I was asking for.

I could care less about resolving Rusthenge’s major plot point, it was the hint of Runelords political stuff that most excited me about the one off adventure- and I see Revenge of the Runelords jumping well into that direction as a potential resolution to the story of small island adventurers with big dreams.

While Rusthenge and the Kindred Coast don't play a part in Revenge of the Runelords... Revenge of the Runelords WILL set the stage for more shenanigans there. Wasn't able to talk about that until now though, obviously...

Spoiler:
Well, that's a tad disappointing, but I understand. They are kind of a handful and I imagine trying to work all of them into an adventure couldn't be easy. Still, color me incredibly interested in any product that stats them up in the future!

Pathfinder AP 2025 is just my year.
All the AP themes are some of my favorite things.

Demons
Vampires
Greek
Runelords.

And the best part my year starts and ends with the Big Bads I've been most interested in fighting.
Treerazer and Xanderghul.

Okay, so it's been a while since the Runelord has been around, what kind of culture shock can we freeze him with? Y'know, like if I explained the concept of a VTuber to someone born before 1980 (hell I may be on the older edge for that myself)

I feel like the Runelord of Pride would actually be quite at home with social media in all its forms. Hell, he'd probably integrate his whole peacock spirit cult into his own platform within a year.

Same for me. Now that I took the mantle of GM, my 'winner' character from Rise of the Runelords has got a future planned as a somewhat recurring figure in the new adventures my friends are going through. And being buddy-buddy with Sorshen is part of those plans, since they've got a lot in common.

I was going to make a joke about a Peacock streaming service, but didn't wanna spoop myself.

...Why do I get the feeling the twist will be

The Twist:

The Pride Runelord is in fact still very dead.
What you've actually been fighting is a Magical AI clone whose body is a particularly powerful illusion.

...And that as a result, an alternative means of beating him will involve convincing him "Your not the real Pride Runelord"... and the AI will be so narcissistic that this revelation will make it kill itself out of the belief "If I'm not the real deal, than I have no business living!".
