Interest check -- Adventures in Mystara (PF1)

Recruitment

Just wondering if anyone is interested in playing in Mystara. Yes, this projected campaign will use Pathfinder 1st Edition.

You have a choice between 3 settings in Mystara:
* A game set in the Grand Duchy of Karameikos.
* A game set in the Principalities of Glantri.
* Or a game set in the Minrothad Guilds.

I still have to buy a copy of the last. All three are areas of adventure.

Mystara is the setting of Dungeons and Dragons Basic (BECMI). It's one of the first settings for D&D, with Blackmoor and Greyhawk being older. The Grand Duchy is based off of Medieval England and France. While the Principalities are a Magocracy based off of Imperial Spain, with some inspiration taken from Venice. The third, the Minrothad Guilds, could be based off of Germany.

Potentially interested.

One question, why PF1? Wouldn't be simpler to use something like Shadowdark or some other OSR clone considering the source material. Just curious.

I could run it with Shadowdark.

Do you intend to run one of the adventure hooks from the chosen Gazetteer or something more homebrew?

Would definitely be interested if you chose to go the Shadowdark route.

Very much interested either way.
My preference is PF1 Core rules only, and a game set in Karameikos.
I have tried Shadowdark and... Was really not that impressed.

Interested. I will echo Albion, tried Shadowdark, didn’t like it. Prefer PF1 to that.

@Elton, in terms of theme what are you thinking? Hack’n’slash; intrigue; hexplore the realms to get a feel for the old skool; stealth and heists?

What rules are you allowing? Half-orcs? Lizardfolk? Inquisitors? Witches? Dreamscarred Press Psionics? Heh, a lot of those don’t really fit, but it doesn’t hurt to ask…

How will you handle initiatives and mapping?

Not hack and slash. More exploration.

Rules? Lets see . . . I'll reveal those when I have more interest. Yep!

Three interested seems pretty good to me :D
One of the best PbP games I am in, in terms of pace, flow and dynamics, has only two players. I can attest there is a lot less 'waiting around for each other to post' than in larger groups .

I run a L5R game with only two players.

Colour me interested also - PF1 set in Karameikos would take me back to the setting of my halcyon days of high adventure.

I'm a lover of traits in PF, so am praying to Halav that you'll include some bespoke ones for the game.

Fancy seeing you here BD ;)

I like Traits IF they make sense. And lets be honest, in most cases they don't, people just use them for mechanical reasons.

'Oh yeah, I am a barbarian from the North, coming from a savage tribe of nomad hunters and raiders. But I have huh this here, huh... Heart of the Fields trait because huh... One day I saw a farmer in the distance. And it, huh... Left a mark in my heart. Or something like that'

I'll set up an official recruitment thread for this tomorrow. Hopefully I feel better then.

I am a fan of Mr. Welch, Youtube's preeminent Mystrara video creator. I love to listen to his lore on Mystara, and would be very interested to enter that world!

I have a full blown cold, but I'm recovering and the worst is over.

Oh I agree -that's why I do think when used correctly then add mechanical content to a backstory. Crowbarring them in to get access to Perception or whatnot. I'm also meaning less racial traits and more traits like campaign/social/combat etc.

If folk just use them to gain extra mechanics then they're not worth having. In PF I like to use them as awards for certain characteristics of play or achievements etc. Regardless I digress lol.

You Sir of course are a gentleman.

Good to hear - lots of people also being hit by flu/colds in northern Europe. It's the most wonderful time of the year? :D

Liberty's Edge

Hi All...so back in the day I really loved Mystara and would like to give it a go, depending on what PF1 stuff is included.

Hi Daniel. Don't worry, I'll be including some PF1 stuff.

Everyone, I feel well enough to get some exercise today. I'll post the "official" recruitment thread this afternoon.
