How does Pathfinder gear interact with Starfinder gear? (What does the Archaic trait actually DO?)

Playtest General Discussion

Since SF2 is supposed to be fully compatible with PF2, I'm trying to get clarity here. My Control-F skills show me that items with the Archaic trait are not effective against modern counterparts. But it doesn't actually say HOW that is true.

Does this have any game effect? And if it does, what is it?

It used to in a field test but that was unpopular, so now I think the archaic trait is just "Use Runes for this Instead of Upgrades" mechanically, and I believe there was word they might reincorporate it as a rules variant.

Also note that for official playtesting, it is requested to not use Pathfinder Second Edition ancestries, backgrounds, classes, equipment, and feats that aren’t explicitly included in the playtest.

Huh. That seems to fly in the face of the text in the book, itself:

"All of the classes in this book work alongside those in the Pathfinder roleplaying game, and we encourage trying one or more of these classes out alongside Pathfinder classes to see how they work!"

I mean, I get the desire to focus the playtest on the new stuff, but why include that line IN the playtest book?
