I must admit I'm puzzled by the interaction between Plant Banner and Banner tactics: Why do you lose the ability to use these tactics when your Banner is planted? I've tried to see a pattern in there but haven't found any understandable one.

I would have far prefered the Banner trait to only work in your Banner Aura, so you could use Plant Banner and Banner tactics but just need to be close to your Banner while doing so. Losing a portion of your abilities just because doesn't seem right.

Edit: Actually, there's the same issue with Commander's Steed. That's now 2 feats that are incompatible with a bunch of Tactics and feats. I find that very problematic, especially because you don't realize at first that there's a negative interaction as it doesn't make any sense.

I'll be honest, I completely missed that Plant Banner shut off everything with the Banner trait, but you're so right. Plant already had the glaring vulnerability of allowing enemies to steal your banner as a single action with no check (since it's an unattended object now), but with this on top I really don't know if the Temp HP and extra aura range is worth it.


Yes the point that Plant Banner already puts in risk that your banner could be stolen and the fact that it doesn't give any really significative advantage up to compensate up to level 15th doesn't hypes me to much.

Instead they could make a Pass the Banner feat to allow to transfer the banner to an ally (not only to the steed).

Also currently if your banner was being stolen and an ally kill the thief and take back the banner it cannot Plant your Banner for you. What's mean that it have to give the banner back to you to it work again. So for now I simply ignore this feat.

Same for me at first, so I was taking it on the playtest Commander I'll play on Friday. But now... it just feels so wrong.

There's the same issue with Commander's Steed where your steed can move the banner on the field but you can no more use some abilities thanks to that.
Also and more importantly: I don't get why some tactics have the Banner trait and others don't. It looks like an unnecessary limitation as you can build around anyway by choosing other tactics (Pincer Attack instead of Strike Hard! for example).

Yeah same, whether or not any given feat does or does not have the banner trait feels very arbitrary and I can't really spot any pattern to it.
