Kinteticst Furnace Form "benefits"

Rules Discussion

The feat Furnace Form for the kineticist says, "You gain the benefits of the fiery body spell (except the ability to cast ignition)..." This has led to questions amongst my players if you gain the weaknesses to cold and water as they are not "benefits." I can see the logic of that, but the wording is vague enough to leave me to wonder if that is the intended reading of the feat. Are you intended to ignore those weaknesses as a kintecist, or did they actually mean "effects of fiery body"?

Drawbacks, such as Weaknesses, are not benefits. That being said, the intent of the developers is unclear here.

Personally, I would not apply the Weaknesses since the feat is already Sustained. Having it effectively make you Slowed 2 just to maintain flight in this form is pretty bad on its own. Also applying the weaknesses would make the feat TBtbT (Too Bad to be True) before 16th-level.

Due my laziness I use the foundryvtt's effect interpretation:

Granted by Furnace Form

You become living flame, giving you fire immunity, resistance 10 to precision damage, and weakness 5 to cold and to water. Your unarmed attacks deal 1d4 additional fire damage, and your fire spells deal one additional die of fire damage (of the same damage die the spell uses). Your fire Elemental Blasts deal an additional die of damage. In fire form, you have a fly Speed of 40 feet

The sustain action gives you a fly action for half your speed as well so it's not that bad.

Liberty's Edge

The RAW seems to be no weaknesses, since these do not read like benefits.

The description however matches the spell so well that I think it should be "effects of fiery body".

I missed that part. Yes, that does help a bit.

And it comes online at roughly the same time as effortless impulse so you get a free movement as well as a free sustain. The weird part is that once you hit level 16, you get slower since it stops being a sustained effect
