I am going to be playing kingmaker with one other player.
I had an idea for a character but I'm not sure how to build it.
Idea: inventor, who is a stage coach driver, with a construct companion, who is the horse.
I do know the companion has to large in size in order for it to pull a cart.
(Note: the books available are the following: core, apg, gng, som, game master guide, and lost omen- character guide, world guide, & gods and magic)
Thank you.

Yeah, at least at the start of Kingmaker there aren't exactly roads for stage coaches to travel on (for the most part). Know if you were running away from someplace else and starting over, that could work. But I wouldn't work the stage coach into your build or expect to go places with it. Thematically is doesn't really make sense.

The river kingdoms are not a great place for a stage coach. Perhaps he was a stage coach driver in Galt, but escaped the chaos of that country and is starting over?
Mechanically, it's hard to say much without knowing the other character.
The other character is a pistolero gunslinger.
And the story is that I will be the driver and he the shotgun. At the very beginning, we wrecked the coach and wandered into the starting town. So we technically do not have one at the moment.

Now that we established the Setup and the characters - what Kind of advice are you looking for?
1. What class feats do I take? Do I simply take all of the companion feats?
2. Are there any skill feat tax? Skill feats I have to take.
3. How fo I play this build? I have never played an inventor. Although I have played a summoner.
4. Is it feasible for the companion to be the face tank or frontline fighter?

1. The feats that enhance your combat powers on the companion are go-to picks. Beyond that it depends. Are you riding it into battle? If so, you'll want construct shell but probably also Megavolt. You'll be sharing MAP so you need a non-strike offensive option for it.
2. Quick Repair. You may find Magical Crafting necessary for Kingmaker.
3. Depends on what you were looking for, but I think the concstruct'd biggest advantage is you its disposability. You can repair it in minutes, and don't have to feel guilty about it getting hurt like an animal companion. Try to have it draw aggro, send it ahead to trigger traps, and what have you.
4. Front line, sorta. Your companion should really be the tip of the spear, but you've got ok hit points and shield block to help. Face? No way. Your stats are spread too thin to afford charisma. I don't have the impression Courtly Graces will often be relevant despite the statecraft.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
@Captain Morgen:
Facetank means just going in and tanking by getting everything to the face :P
@OP:
Largely what Morgan said, it depends a little on what you want to do, be careful about companions being the main tank - you can easily repair your construct but its HP and AC are usually well below a PC build for the frontline
Also: You said you are playing with two people and an adventure path
that is going to be *really* dangerous
you should cosider talking with your gm to either give you help in the form of npcs, free archetype or dual classing or any combination of that
combat in pathfinder2 is hard, fast and lethal, you both have martial classes and melee and ranged covered, that is good
but you will need some sort of healing and neither gunslinger nor inventor have natural reliable sources for that
and, just so you can tell your friend: while a good class, a gunslinger is not an easy class or the most consistent in damage - they have high highs but also deep lows compared to other and the action economy can really hamper you if you are not prepared for it

There is searing restoration that could be a source of healing. It is lesser that a medicine check but at least there is no skill check for it to go off.

It's also your only real option for a second level class feat, so you might as well take it.
Haphazard Repair seems like an ok option at level 1 if you don't like Explosive Leap. (Which I do, but to each their own.)

haphazard repair seems to be a once per combat legendary quick repair which might not be a bad thing. However explosive leap seems to be very situational, all be it a very cool ability.
