What is the point of listing items on Chronicle Sheets that you can already buy? Is that not a waste an award? What is the point exactly? The vast majority items listed are already available. (As opposed to having more Uncommon items listed, items listed at a discount, or some similarly tangible benefit.)

Purchasing Guidelines
You can always purchase the following items so long as you’re in a settlement of at least 5,000 residents (and scenarios might sometimes provide additional allowances or limitations):
Any common equipment in sanctioned Pathfinder content with an item level less than or equal to your character’s level (minimum 2).
Any uncommon equipment in sanctioned Pathfinder content with an item level less than or equal to your character’s level (minimum 2); your character must have access to this uncommon equipment.
Any equipment listed on your character’s Chronicles with an item level less than or equal to your character’s level + 2.

Sometimes they are completely redundant (listing a +1 weapon when every character already has access to those starting at level 1).
Sometimes they just give earlier access (listing +1 Sriking weapon allows you to purchase it at level 2 instead of having to wait until level 4)
Sometimes they give you access to uncommon things you would otherwise need to spend resources to access (like giving access to Katana so you don't need to select home region for it or don't need to spend acp)
Sometimes they give you discount on things (pretty uncommon)
Sometimes they give you access to uncommon things you'd otherwise have no way of accessing otherwise (this is kinda rare).

As an occasional adventure writer, one of my favorite things to do is scour the recent hardcover releases for weird/cool items that people might not be aware of, then put them in the adventure. That way players learn about them, and if they show up on a Chronicle Sheet then they'll remember them and can purchase them easily.
So, that's also a reason.

As a sidebar to this, sometimes (in PFS chronicles) they give access to items that you normally only find in an AP.
Also, sometimes the items are unique to an adventure. The only way to get a Fiery Leopard animal companion is the chronicle sheet for the Fall of Plaguestone.

Is there a way for us to easily search for those rarerer elements? So that we know which games to ask Society GMs to run?
No. "Boon hunting" is generally frowned upon.
Here's a super quick inaccurate summary though:
Season 1 has lots of items that you could already purchase.
Seasons 2/3 don't have a lot of items
Season 4 tends to have interesting things on their sheets.

Related to Alex's answer, remember that PFS is marketing for Pathfinder RPG. So putting items and getting people to open up books/look them up is probably a plus for Paizo even if they aren't uncommon or otherwise hard to access.
I've seen plenty of people go, oh that item looks neat, and when I use it I'll remember this adventure now, I'll go buy it!
Was hilarious when 2 fairly early adventures both had a Ring of the Ram listed and I GMed a level 5-8 adventure and 4/6 PCs owned one though.
Probably better than just hoarding their money not knowing what to buy.

If you want to ask Society GMs to run certain modules, I recommend that you go thumb through the blurbs of Season 4 adventures, and find the ones that sound fun. Maybe this plot deals with your home neighborhood/country. Maybe that plot deals with something (one of) your character hates...
Oh, and stay away from Fall of Plaguestone. There's a whole, looong thread about what's wrong with it.
