Searched lots of online stores that have the 2nd edition but have yet to find any that list the 3rd edition.
Right, confusion over the word edition. The Super Powers Companion with the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition oval logo on the bottom half of the cover is the book you want. This is the third version (edition) of the Super Powers companion overall. This version is on its second print run (also called edition) which is causing the confusion.
The book you want has a cover with a black bottom half and a top half featuring a flame wielding lady fighting an ice wielding one. The links are to the correct books/PDF's.
The second edition does not say Adventure Edition on the cover and the cover image is a fire wielding lady fighting flying demony things.
The correct book/pdf should be going for about $40 hardcopy and $20 PDF.
The correct book/pdf will also mention SWADE which is the currant rule set.
Did that help?

Ok, I thought I answered a-g, and this was the support. I'm not sure what you need to move forward. I guess I out. Thanks
Oh you did! That is entirely my error, very sorry.
Now let's see....
a) Concept:A Vampire who led the undead rebellion. Captured by the US government, he was frozen in liquid helium for future research. He was recently thawed. his savior unknown. He wakes up alone and to be unleashed on a world decades older than what he remembers.
b)Black hair, super-white-ass skin, gaunt, welcoming but creepy-ass smile. Arches his eyebrow alot.
c) Very, very hard to 'kill'. able to temporarily leach powers from other mutants if allowed to feed on them. Anyone fed on will probably become dead or another subservient undead.
d) Attempted to start undead revolution earlier in history
e) Deep inside a underground government facility deep in the desert.
f) he was captured in "The Turn of New York". The Turn happened when more were undead in New York city than were alive.
I'll need to think up an appropriate ending battle, that I can add later.
Ok Capone can satisfy f.
If I am interpreting e and a correctly then you will have been imprisoned (unconscious?) since the mid to late 1920's. Correct?
You would have no knowledge of the invasion or anything in the modern world.
This is very interesting.
Consider yourself recruited. Make your way to the Evil Lounge (aka discussion thread) and start working on mechanics. This will be a fun build to see.

I think I'm clear on the SPC book. I'm still a bit confused by the fact that SWADE is included in a lot of titles. Is the SWADE current rule set we need called Savage Worlds Adventure Edition Core Rules (#SWADE), with a picture on the cover of a woman with red hair running on a snowdrift with some ruins in the background?
I assume we need this for the basic rules and the SPC for the super power rules. Have I got the right of it.

Poor Wandering GM |

Yes the book with the woman with read hair in the snow by ruins.
It says "Savage Worlds Adventure Edition" In an oval logo with a black banner reading "Roleplaying Game" underneath that.
Yes you are exactly correct.
SWADE for the core rules.
SBC3 for the Superpower rules
NE players guide for the setting information.

Poor Wandering GM |

I am working on a submission, but working under a time crunch at my job. I hope to have something roughed out later today or Sunday.
Are we all starting with Rank 1 characters? Or are we allowed some advances?
Sorry Rank 1. I am kind of surprised there wasn't a "Start at seasoned and regret it" option like Veteran of Weird West. I've toyed with creating the NE version "Veteran of Star City" but there are only 4 years of the invasion timeline to play with and the invasion really does create a year zero so finding non-hamhanded way to make pre-invasion problems that still matter and more importantly are interesting was more than my little brain could manage. I'm open to ideas but this big an option would take buy in from the other players/candidates and that might be a tad too difficult.
A new song fills the Lounge

Poor Wandering GM |

Are you still looking?? Was thinking of playing perhaps a magical character...
thanks
Maybe, but the big silver ball is starting to drop so you will have to be quick-ish.
Do you have access to:
1. The Savage Worlds Adventure Edition core book. AKA SWADE
2. The SWADE edition of the Super Powers Companion. This edition has a fire based super fighting an ice based super on the cover and says Adventure Edition towards the bottom of the page.
3. The Necessary Evil players guide or main book.
If you don't then I don't think there is time to get your character converted from an earlier edition.
Let me know.
~PWGM

Poor Wandering GM |

Thanks for the offer, but it seems you are pretty much there already so I will bow out. Looks like a great game though!1 Bestof luck
You sure? There is a lot of noise but we only have 1 player finished and confirmed. I expect a troupe of 4-6 once the dust has settled.
But either way thanks for poking your head in.

Poor Wandering GM |

Good plan though we just confirmed our 2nd player.
From what I understand the Hero Lab info might not be the current edition of the Super Powers Companion. Check the Super Sorcery power, if it costs 2/level it is the old edition. Correct edition will show a flat 4 points for this power.
I'm operating on secondhand information about Hero Lab having issues. I don't use it so I could be talking out of my hat.

ok..here are the answers to you questions.
a) What is your concept? Give me a one or two sentence description of your character.
I was thinking about an Egyptian wizard who was awakened just before the earth was invaded. He was quietly building a cult that would carry his schemes into the world, but before that could happen, the K’tharen were defeated by the V’sori and with the surprise attack by the latter his well laid plays of domination were shattered.
b) What do you look like? Hair/eye color? Height and Weight? Costume? Think of what your mug shot would look like.
He is a tall imposing figure with noble bearing and fair of face. His actual visage is much different, showing a shrivelled corpse-like creature with eyes like burning red coals.
c) What can you do? What separates you from the masses? Brains? Training? Acidic blood? Magic tea cozy?
Magic…plain and simple. He is the last practitioner of ancient Egyptian magic. It was this magic which sustained him through his mummified sleep over the centuries and now fuels his supernatural powers.
d) What have you done? What separates you from a random survivor? Describe a typical crime. There is a reason you could not be at the welcoming ceremony with Champion. If you are a hero give me an example of your heroism and tell me why you were not incinerated for standing with Champion?
In the years since his awakening, he has gathered many to his cause. Through magic and rhetoric, he had created a rather wide spread following of cult members. Known simply as The Brotherhood, the various cells of the cult carried out terrorism, kidnapping and other low-key crimes to fill the coffers of their leader. The attack by the V’sori however ruined his plans and now he is practically back to square one!
e) What have you been doing lately? How have you spent the last two years under V'sori occupation? Most importantly tell me about your capture by the V’sori. Yes you have been captured, no this cannot be negotiated.
He has been hiding from the V’sori for the most part. As his cult crumbled, some gave up information on who he was and his various bases for better treatment by the new rulers of the planet. He has barely kept one step ahead of these invaders and is looking for allies to help fight back, and to save his own life!
f) What have you seen in the world? Detail a hero or a villain or an ordinary person you have ran into, worked with, fought, or just heard about. Maybe a member of Alpha Squadron you tangled with. Maybe a criminal mastermind you worked for. Maybe a taxi driver or whoever ran the newsstand near your old lair. Make them interesting. Think of yourself as pitching a 1 or 2 issue special series for the Necessary Evil comic book we are all creating.
The main enemy of his cult were a group known as the Nova Magi. These mystics and investigators combed the world looking for ancient ‘evils’. Their leader, Nelson Martin is still alive and working for the V’sori to hunt him down. While only a fraction of the Nova Magi still live, Martin has turned them all into slaves of the V’sori.
The only help he had been able to consistently count on is from an elderly Egyptologist by the name of Asmar Farouk. Farouk was one of his first converts and has been a loyal follower ever since. Farouk has some small political pull with several governments and uses this knowledge to assist his “Master”
g) What is the greatest thing in life? What is your desired end state/goal. Tell me what is important to you.
To be worshipped as the living god that he is! To have lands, and riches and slaves to do his bidding. At the moment he would be happy with some allies to protect him until this ‘alien’ crisis is over.

![]() |

As it so happens, Farouk was conned by Martin into setting up a meeting. Martin, appearing lost and on the run, 'stumbled' onto Farouk and asked for help. According to his story, the Nova Magi had all been hunted down and killed by the V'sori and now they were closing in on him. He went on about the enemy of my enemy is an ally and such, and the desperate Farouk fell for it and said he would set up a meeting between Martin and Rekhmire. This was all a lie, as Martin had sold his organization out to the aliens for the chance to take down Rekhmire. In the chaos of the fighting, Farouk escaped while Rekhmire was captured.
For a long time, Rekhmire was held on one of the V'sori ships in orbit around the earth. Being outside of the 'heka-sphere' severely limited Rekhmire's abilities, casting him back into his state of suspended animation.

small note: you were never taken off planet. Or at least you have no memory of being taken into orbit. You were forcibly severed from the heka-sphere through means you do not understand. (player note. Nullification beams and nullifier enabled restraints.)
Exactly what I needed. Wrap this info into your other background and slap it on your sheet so it doesn't vanish and head on in to the Evil Lounge.
Remember to tip the band and dive on in. Once your character is finished poke me to give it a review in the meantime ask me or anyone else whatever questions you have.
Be seeing you.

As happens from time to time a couple of players have journeyed to that to undiscovered country, from whose bourn no traveller returns. Or at least found better ways to spend their free time.
Therefore I, your kindly GM, am reopening this recruitment thread for folks interested in a Savage Worlds Necessary Evil Game.
Game details: It is still early days (think early 1st book in Pathfinder AP terms) so you will not have missed out on much. If I may say so I feel the best part is just beginning.
So if you are interested then I kindly ask that you post your answers to the following questions. They are partly housekeeping, partly to give me an idea of you as a player, and partly to assist me in world building.
Evil, Not Psychotic
Necessary Evil is all about playing the villains of gold/silver age comics, as they smash headfirst into a very modern alien invasion. While these villains may be murderous and megalomaniacal, they don’t tend to be mindless killers without purpose. The super-villain you make up should at least have the potential for working with other super-villains. While playing a completely anti-social psychotic does have its charms, it does not usually make for good team game-play. Take some time to consider why your villain would cooperate with other villains, especially under the circumstances. Your villain could certainly murder his fellow compatriots at a later date to serve his own goals, but for the time being, he ought to realize he’s more powerful with others by his side.
But I want to be a hero!
Good for you! The game can easily support heroes as well. Just remember that you were not a very famous/effective hero. They are dead. Your backstory is yours but you must never have been seriously considered for membership in Alpha Squadron (the Avengers/JLA of this setting). The language in this thread is villain-centric but know that you heroes are welcome too.
Questions are a burden to others; answers are a prison for oneself.
a) What is your concept? Give me a one or two sentence description of your character.
b) Do you have, or will you pledge to get if selected, access to: The Savage Worlds Adventure Edition rule book (AKA SWADE), The Super Powers Companion Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (AKA SPC3), and the Necessary Evil Players guide? I can help if you are not sure where to get these.
c) What do you look like? Hair/eye color? Height and Weight? Costume? Think of your mug shot/wanted poster.
d) What can you do? What separates you from the masses? Brains? Training? Acidic blood? Magic tea cozy?
e) What have you done? What separates you from a random survivor? Describe a typical crime. There is a reason you could not be at the welcoming ceremony with Champion. If you are a hero give me an example of your heroism and tell me why you were not incinerated for standing up for Earth?
f) How familiar are you with Savage Worlds as a system? Note familiarity is NOT required. It is not a highly complex system but it does have its rough points. I and the other players are more than happy to lend a hand.
g) What have you been doing lately? How have you spent the last two years under V'sori occupation? The campaign starts the players as prisoners of the V'sori invaders. Were you a prisoner? If so what was the V'sori attitude to you? Indifference? Interest & Interrogation? Experimentation? How long were you in captivity? If you remained free how did you manage that? Friends? Luck? Blending in to the general population?
h) The game is largely set in Star City and you will start there. Is this your home? If so how long have you been active as a meta-human in the City? Do you have family or friends here? If home is somewhere else where is it and is getting there important to you?
i) What have you seen in the world? Detail a hero or a villain or an ordinary person you have ran into, worked with, fought, or just heard about. Maybe a member of Alpha Squadron you tangled with. Maybe a criminal mastermind you worked for. Maybe a taxi driver or whoever ran the newsstand near your old lair. Make them interesting. Think of yourself as pitching a 1 or 2 issue special series for the Necessary Evil comic book we are all creating.
j) What is the greatest thing in life? What is your desired end state/goal. Tell me what is important to you.
k) You are a member of the Omega resistance movement led by Dr. Destroyer (Think Marvel's Dr. Doom). What do you think about this? Are you a willing member? Blackmailed? Given the choice of joining or being sold out to the V'sori to provide a distraction? Maybe you were part of a cell that was destroyed? Have you met Dr. Destruction?
And finally a few words on character generation.
First a full character is NOT required to apply. Just the answers to the questions. That said I know folks will want the detailed info.
Most of what you are looking for in on the Campaign page of this game under the "Character generation guidelines, setting rules and advice" spoiler. But here is the quick version.
Standard SWADE creation rules. With More Skill Points, Born a Hero, and Larger Than Life setting rules in effect. Free SPC style AB Superpowers edge for everyone. See books & Campaign page for many more details.
Restrictions on origins:
No aliens. Atlanteans/Humans or Hybrids are fine. If you really want to play something from off world then make your case but it will not be easy.
No Robots. Cyborgs are fine. You may even think you are a robot but there is meat in there somewhere.
There is is. The door is open. The music is playing, and the dance floor is paved in good intentions. Welcome.

Proposed concept...
b) What do you look like? Hair/eye color? Height and Weight? Costume? Think of what your mug shot would look like. Some people might consider Phillipe a beanpole considering he stands over six feet tall but only weighs about 160 pounds. However, as Phillipe is usually sitting in a wheelchair his actual build tends to be overlooked. When he does have need to get around without the chair, he's walking with a cane. With light brown hair and blue eyes (because of his condition, the whites of his eyes are a bluish-grey as well), he's what most folks consider above average in looks. As a graduate student, he dresses in typical student fashion with jeans and t-shirts for the most part. His t-shirts tend to have some form of 'geek humor' on them, and his jeans tend to be dark colored with silver studs on the pockets.
c) What can you do? What separates you from the masses? Brains? Training? Acidic blood? Magic tea cozy?Marine Biologist; walking brick when transformed.
d) What have you done? What separates you from a random survivor? Describe a typical crime. There is a reason you could not be at the welcoming ceremony with Champion. If you are a hero give me an example of your heroism and tell me why you were not incinerated for standing with Champion? So far, Phillipe has been hiding as much as possible. Living in a small island nation, there wasn't a lot of reason for the V'Sori to pay attention to. Once his mother, working for one of the early resistance cells, managed to cure him, he got out and about a bit more. It was only when he was caught in a crossfire between V'Sori, K'tharen and the resistance that his powers manifested.
e) What have you been doing lately? How have you spent the last two years under V'sori occupation? Most importantly tell me about your capture by the V’sori. Yes you have been captured, no this cannot be negotiated.Since his powers manifested, he has spent time in hiding learning his powers and the lay of the land. Recently, he arrived in Star City, ostensibly to study/work, but mostly to connect with the resistance and help take his home back, no matter the cost. He was captured because his mother turned out to be working for the V'Sori and hoped to use him to bargain a better time for herself.
f) What have you seen in the world? Detail a hero or a villain or an ordinary person you have ran into, worked with, fought, or just heard about. Maybe a member of Alpha Squadron you tangled with. Maybe a criminal mastermind you worked for. Maybe a taxi driver or whoever ran the newsstand near your old lair. Make them interesting. Think of yourself as pitching a 1 or 2 issue special series for the Necessary Evil comic book we are all creating.
g) What is the greatest thing in life? What is your desired end state/goal. Tell me what is important to you.Loyalty, freedom, friendship and happiness.

GM SuperTumbler |

I had initially misunderstood the nature of the campaign and had been thinking of villains like a killer zombie or something. Then I was reading Necessary Evil and it said Gold and Silver age villains against modern alien invasion, and I thought, well the best silver age villains are either megalomaniacs or apes or both (looking at you, Grodd). I didn't feel up to playinga megalomaniac, so I thought I'd pitch a monkey. Had a character already called Ninja Monkey with a similar background, but never got to play him. The group already has a ghost ninja, so that part seemed redundant. Thus was born: (Let me know if this idea is too stupid for the tone of the campaign). (Also rules wise I figure he is just a human with distinct appearance).
Gun Monkey
a) What is your concept? Give me a one or two sentence description of your character. Gun Monkey is a chimpanzee who was the subject of experimentation by (insert government agency or supervillain). He has a bad temper and really likes guns.
b) What do you look like? Hair/eye color? Height and Weight? Costume? Think of what your mug shot would look like. Gun Monkey is mostly black and gray, with some brown grizzle on his chest. He has golden eyes. He stands 4 ½ feet tall when fully upright and weighs about 100 lgs. He doesn’t wear a costume, but usually wears camo cargo pants and a tactical harness. He likes hats.
c) What can you do? What separates you from the masses? Brains? Training? Acidic blood? Magic tea cozy? Gun Monkey is good at jumping, climbing, biting people, sneaking, and shooting guns. Due to the experiments on him, he is tougher, smarter, and stronger than a normal chimpanzee, and he heals somewhat quickly. Still not that smart, though.
d) What have you done? What separates you from a random survivor? Describe a typical crime. There is a reason you could not be at the welcoming ceremony with Champion. If you are a hero give me an example of your heroism and tell me why you were not incinerated for standing with Champion?
Gun Monkey was a henchman. He isn’t that interested in crime, but he did what he was told by his creators. He has been an accomplice in robbing some banks, shooting some politicians, and blowing up the facility where he was created. He is an ape. He doesn’t get invited to a lot of ceremonies.
e) What have you been doing lately? How have you spent the last two years under V'sori occupation? Most importantly tell me about your capture by the V’sori. Yes you have been captured, no this cannot be negotiated. He has spent his time hoarding guns, stealing food, and hiding. He got captured because he was trying to steal some oranges on the street. He hadn't seen oranges for a while.
f) What have you seen in the world? Detail a hero or a villain or an ordinary person you have ran into, worked with, fought, or just heard about. Maybe a member of Alpha Squadron you tangled with. Maybe a criminal mastermind you worked for. Maybe a taxi driver or whoever ran the newsstand near your old lair. Make them interesting. Think of yourself as pitching a 1 or 2 issue special series for the Necessary Evil comic book we are all creating. Gun Monkey hasn’t seen much of the world, and a lot of what he has seen confuses him. He doesn’t understand money. He does understand anger and revenge. There was a man who called himself The Hunter who thought it would be a good idea to hunt Gun Monkey. They spent some time playing deadly games before the invasion, but Gun Monkey won those games. He has a fondness for children, be they birds or humans. He likes to strike up relationships with them. He definitely does not like the (Insert Criminal Scientist) who created him. Lots of bad memories there.
g) What is the greatest thing in life? What is your desired end state/goal. Tell me what is important to you. Strawberries, figs, a watermelon. Those are pretty great. Seeing the keepers come to give Bobo a shot was pretty funny back in the day. But Bobo isn’t around anymore. Gun Monkey would like more than anything to be left alone, and these V’Sori will not leave him alone.

Thorne & Tumbler
Well that is amusing. You both seem to have overlooked the “reopening the recruitment thread” post sitting just before Thorn’s first post. It has updated questions and build info. Also the group does not have a tech or aquatic themed member. Combat power they have in spades, skills might be a little thin. Just a word to the wise.
The questions you answered are still mainly there I just added a couple more as my understanding grew through play. Please give that post a look and update your answers.
Thorn It sounds like you will be doing the alternate form thing. Correct? If so I find it amusing because in my previous ill fated run at this game the first replacement player also went the alternate form route. Hmmm marine biologist, interesting. Are you considering Hybrid or Atlanian heritage? We do not have an aquatic themed super, and we are on an island.
Tumbler Sorry, I must not have been clear. Allowed heritages are Human, Atlantian, or Hybrid. Monkey would be a bit of a stretch. I’m also having trouble seeing what Gun Monkey would bring to the group. Combat skill is not something they are short on. What besides gun does monkey bring to the table? I should warn you just as I warned Doc Toxic that there are investigational and social encounters. Functioning in society will be important. Also question g, there is nothing stopping you from leaving the city. Sure the V’sori would love to get you on a dissecting table but they won’t move mountains to do it. They have won and you are not a threat. If you want to live out your days somewhere warm and full of fruit the V’sori will not even notice you. So there may be some issues with Gun Monkey.
Not that GM doesn’t have promise. An animal themed gun oriented super could fit . Especially if they had the technology chops to get some of the alien guns working for them. Almost a Rocket Raccoon vibe. Still have the non-human and motivation issues but a good core is there.

GM SuperTumbler |

My thinking was just that an evil monkey minion of a supervillain would be fun, an evil Gleek whose master was worth killing.
I guess I misunderstood the parameters of the campaign. And I was honestly trying to create something simple to play as my experience with the Savage Worlds system is not as comprehensive as I would like.
I'll ponder something else.
And I'll note that in Discussion I did ask what would be useful to have and there was pretty much no response.

GM SuperTumbler |

I think you must have edited while I was responding. Was definitely going for a Rocket Racoon vibe in the sense of being an experimented on animal. I don't see him as having a tech vibe but being more of a hit-monkey expy. He isn't smart at all.
He is very vengeful, so for motivation I would just need something that the aliens have taken from him.

Laird_Thorne |

Whoops! I do want to apologize, because I did miss the revised questions. I’ll have them up in the morning.
While I’m at it, I may revise slightly. Would a Black Manta/Iron Man type fit in? If not, I’ll stick with the Alternate form. :)

Dave Finsterman |

And I'll note that in Discussion I did ask what would be useful to have and there was pretty much no response.
Sorry, didn't want to cramp your style, but I realize now I could have been more helpful. If you're looking to fill a niche, the group is currently rudderless, imo. It's a concern I voiced early on, that a collection of villains makes for a poor team. We need an operational mastermind, with an introduction as simple as, "Dr. Destructo sent me to make sure you all don't screw up." We can respect that and for my part, Dave is a complete dufus who will happily follow so long as his basic needs for food and attention are met. There are leadership edges that can support this kind of character, and Super powers like Healing which I think we're still short on. Your character trapping could be anything.

Dave Finsterman |

g) What is the greatest thing in life? What is your desired end state/goal. Tell me what is important to you. Loyalty, freedom, friendship and happiness.
Those sound like nice squishy things for Heroes. Dave totally sympathizes with this internal longing, or at least he sympathizes with not having any of those nice things and feels contempt for those that do. But we're villains, as odd as that seems.
Also, I get nada for quoting Seinfeld here? Tough crowd.

A power armor jockey would fit well. Due to the loss of most infrastructure it would be good for you to be able to upgrade/repair the suit yourself. And remember this is the broad picture phase. Details come later.

I think I have something that would fit... :)
Milt
HADES Armor
a) What is your concept? Give me a one or two sentence description of your character. From a broken home, Milton Garavon has had a knack for visualizing and mentally imagining how technology works. With an interest in marine biology, even before the invasion he was founding a biotech company to fund his exploring the ocean depths. To aid in this he assembles an early version of the HADES suit (Human Augmentation Diving Enhanced System) with the intent to create several to aid in deep sea salvage and rescue. With the V'Sori gaining control of the world, that dream was crushed and Milt found himself persona non-grata at his company and in Star City itself.
b) Do you have, or will you pledge to get if selected, access to: The Savage Worlds Adventure Edition rule book (AKA SWADE), The Super Powers Companion Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (AKA SPC3), and the Necessary Evil Players guide? I can help if you are not sure where to get these. Already have all of the above. :)
c) What do you look like? Hair/eye color? Height and Weight? Costume? Think of your mug shot/wanted poster. Some people might consider Phillipe a beanpole considering he stands over six feet tall but only weighs about 200 pounds. With light brown hair and blue eyes (because of a genetic condition, the whites of his eyes are a bluish-grey as well), he's what most folks consider above average in looks. Always more comfortable in casual clothes, he dresses in jeans and t-shirts for the most part. His t-shirts tend to have some form of 'geek humor' on them, and his jeans tend to be dark colored with silver studs on the pockets. Sometimes he even adds a sports coat to his ensemble.
The armor he wears is a blue and silver scheme, calling back to it's origins as a tool for undersea use.
d) What can you do? What separates you from the masses? Brains? Training? Acidic blood? Magic tea cozy? Milton Charles Garavon grew up with a life of pain and injury. His mother died giving birth to him and his father became an alcoholic to cope. His father was a functioning alcoholic though, so for years Milt suffered and wound up rebelling due to it. He wound up running with a crowd that gave him the power and respect he lacked at home. He ran with the wrong crowd for several years, doing whatever it took to survive on the streets and avoid going home for a beating. His life changed the day he turned seventeen and was part of a robbery gone bad.
Luckily for Milton, the judge took pity on the boy who had, according to all accounts of the witnesses just been an observer. As punishment, the boy was given a choice; the Military or Jail. Milt wisely chose joining the military and that put him on a fast track to success. After scoring in the top percentile of the military's aptitude tests during basic training, Milt was given an opportunity to work in the early stages of the DARPA exoskeleton research project, first as a test grunt, but then after pointing out a problem with the design and providing a solution, part of the design team. After four years in the military, Milt found himself on a fast-track to a degree in bio-mechanics and robotics. In college, Milt discovered that he had a unique (apparently) ability to visualize and see new uses for existing systems and even imagine adaptations and improvements at the same time.
After another four years, Milt had founded a new company (which he based in Green City for its advanced tech potential) specializing in bio-mechanical solutions for everything from disabilities to warehouse logistics. While working on the suit, Milt discovered, quite by accident, that he could shift items he was touching into an 'extra-dimensional closet' surrounding him. He discovered this when testing a new variation on an exoskeleton, one that Milton had in mind would assist deep sea salvage crews or rescuers in operations far beneath the waves. With a bit of refinement, Milton could see that the HADES suit (Human Augmentation Diving Enhanced System) had a lot of potential in several areas, the key was figuring out the right way to use it.
e) What have you done? What separates you from a random survivor? Describe a typical crime. There is a reason you could not be at the welcoming ceremony with Champion. If you are a hero give me an example of your heroism and tell me why you were not incinerated for standing up for Earth? Instead of being at the ceremony with Champion, even though he was invited, Milt was occupied with recovering from a deep sea rescue in a decompression chamber.
It's only recently (since joining the resistance) that Milt has been able to reassemble/rebuild the HADES armor, so until now, he hasn't given the invaders a reason to worry about him.
f) How familiar are you with Savage Worlds as a system? Note familiarity is NOT required. It is not a highly complex system but it does have its rough points. I and the other players are more than happy to lend a hand. Fairly familiar. Read and observed the variations, gotten to play a little. Quickly became my favorite system even if I don't get to play. :)
g) What have you been doing lately? How have you spent the last two years under V'sori occupation? The campaign starts the players as prisoners of the V'sori invaders. Were you a prisoner? If so what was the V'sori attitude to you? Indifference? Interest & Interrogation? Experimentation? How long were you in captivity? If you remained free how did you manage that? Friends? Luck? Blending in to the general population? ...
h) The game is largely set in Star City and you will start there. Is this your home? If so how long have you been active as a meta-human in the City? Do you have family or friends here? If home is somewhere else where is it and is getting there important to you? Star City is Milton's second home, and he hasn't been back there long. Before the invasion, Milton had a bio-technology company based in Star City. With the V'Sori arrival, that company was one of the first casualties of their "war". His original home is Harbour Island in the Bahamas, and he would do a lot to ensure his friends back home remain out of the way and safe.
i) What have you seen in the world? Detail a hero or a villain or an ordinary person you have ran into, worked with, fought, or just heard about. Maybe a member of Alpha Squadron you tangled with. Maybe a criminal mastermind you worked for. Maybe a taxi driver or whoever ran the newsstand near your old lair. Make them interesting. Think of yourself as pitching a 1 or 2 issue special series for the Necessary Evil comic book we are all creating. ...
j) What is the greatest thing in life? What is your desired end state/goal. Tell me what is important to you. Freedom. Kicking the V'Sori back into space where they belong.
k) You are a member of the Omega resistance movement led by Dr. Willing in a "The Enemy of my Enemy Is My Friend" sort of way.

And I'll note that in Discussion I did ask what would be useful to have and there was pretty much no response.
Sorry about that. I was trying to let the group come forward then but I re-thought that idea and stepped in.
I do encourage any of the other player to pipe in as Dave has if they like.
After further thought...
A tech, aquatic, or magic themed person would fill gaps in the group and that would be nice but what is actually needed in a character is engagement and interest and neither of these come with point costs. This is why I am reluctant to really put the kibosh on Gun Monkey. I hate to tell a player "no" because it is a hit to that critical engagement and interest.
That said I am worried that GM is a one note character. A literal combat monkey unable to function outside of action sequences. I am worried that you will get bored if there is nothing to shoot.
Anyway I am rambling. Let me know if I can be of service.

Technical: Missed question i.
Plot:
Question e. Why were you invited? It does not seem like you were active as a metahuman combatant in the Phony-war. Invited as the head of a major company? Any reason is fine. Your answer will help me get a better idea of the guest list.
Question h. What is/was the name of the company? Did it survive the Invasion?
Question g. How are you blending in? What neighborhood do you live in? Do you have a job?
None of these really need answers, except question i. Its just stuff to think about and maybe add some depth to the world.

I don't know Savage Worlds super well. Is there a way for him to be good at technology without being actually all that smart? Like he has observed his creator at work and gets technology, but it is more of an intuitive thing?
This is possible. You could have a low Smarts with high tech skills. Likely you would be using Super Skill for this because buying skills higher than the associated attribute get expensive.
How not smart are we talking.... Can GM talk? Read? Do math? Use a computer? Drive?
Also how far from human is GM? If they walk into a mag-lev car do people think. "Dam that guy needs to shave." or is it more "Holy &*^#$ that Monkey has a gun!". I am wondering where you see GM falling on the Unusual appearance/Ugly/Alien form spectrum.

First, I appreciate your apologies Poor Wandering GM and Dave Finsterman. No worries at all. My feelings aren't hurt. I'm just trying to find a character that is playable (by which I mean simple) on my side and useful to the group on your side.
I would prefer something that leans toward a concept that isn't fiddly, so more like really good at normal stuff rather than able to do lots of weird stuff. That is just for me to keep my sanity navigating the system.
I'd be just as happy with a Skill Monkey (though that name isn't as much fun).
I think the answer to how far from human is Gun Monkey is that I don't totally grok the setting. Like are we in a setting where Ben Grimm in Thing form can wear a fedora, trench coat, and his blue speedo and no one looks thinks anything of it? Or is it more realistic? My initial thoughts were that he was pretty much an ape in form, more like Hit Monkey, but I see now that doesn't fit the setting.
I was seeing him as smart but with a very non human perspective. I don't think he can read because he was never taught to read. And he doesn't really understand computers.
The root of the concept is that he was the subject of experiments in a super villain's lab. We can go from there in different directions, I think.
But I can also start over with a more normal human.

E) Why were you invited? It does not seem like you were active as a metahuman combatant in the Phony-war. Invited as the head of a major company? One of the first individuals, among several, to benefit from the use of the original HADES exoskeleton was Alfred Neumann, son of Senator Harrison Neumann. Alfred and his team were on a rescue mission for a Navy sub that had sank on the edge of the Marianas trench. A sea quake struck in the middle of the rescue stranding both subs with additional damage. Milton used the HADES to dive to and repair the rescue sub. One of the team lost a limb which Milt’s biotech division helped replace with a hi-tech prosthetic. The Senator wanted to thank Milt personally and make sure he got the recognition he deserved for the heroics.
H) What is/was the name of the company? Did it survive the Invasion? MG Technologies with the subsidiaries of Poseidon Oceanic and Hermes Biotech along with a couple of other minor divisions. 90% of the entire organization succumbed to the aftermath of the invasion. What did survive was a scrap/salvage company which also handles trash and recycling.
Working on, thinking about G and I… :) should have something in the morning.

RE: Being non-human(or atlantean/hubrid) in public.
Before the Invasion Ben Grim could have rocked *rim shot* that speedo down main street and no one but his fan club would have noticed.
After the invasion. If here were seen by a V'sori patrol he would be immediately attacked with the intent to kill or capture. A human police patrol....maybe they would "not notice him" or maybe they would turn him in. Walking in public would be problematic as someone would likely sell him out. Leading to the aforementioned attack.
Remember the big heroes are dead, the populous is afraid and being squeezed. Many people & most of the authorities are cooperating either out of fear or greed or both. Turning in a meta human gets you a good bounty and better treatment from the Invaders and quislings.
There is actually a plot hook in GM. There was (is?) a supervillan called Dr. Devolution who was known to experiment on folks. GM could be the result of his work. You would look like and even think you were a Monkey but you would still be human. You wold be looking at thew Alien Form hindrance and all the shoot on sight that comes with it, but we already have one player taking that hard road {Shout out to Doc Toxic} so the option is there. It is a MAJOR hindrance and may lock you out of parts of the plot but it is workable.

What I'm hearing is you kind of grinding and grating to work GM in. It sounds like he would be a pain in your ass, and as a forever GM (Game Master, not Gun Monkey) I can't do that to a fellow GM.
How about a character who is all skills. I'm not sure yet what the powers actually are. I'm thinking of a guy who can access the Collective Unconscious, or the Universal Mind, something like that.
Basically, some element of humanity, all of humanity, is resisting this invasion, and somehow this schmuck has access to all of it. He has Hawking's understanding of physics, the best sniper in the world's sniper skills, etc. He can't do anything truly "super." But he is the best at anything a human can do through tapping into all of the best humans.
I don't even know how possible it is to build this in Savage Worlds.

Laird_Thorne |

I would say the Genius Power, lots of Super Skill, Super Attribute, and at least Super Edge (Jack of all Trades).
If you want to go that route, I can go with Brickhouse instead of HADES. :) I'll still have a bit of tech skill, but more focused on Marine Biology/Ocean related things. I was playing around with a build for HADES, and seemed to get ridiculous at points. I think a more focused Brick might work out well. Some of the background stuff will be the same, but definitely some differences.

.....

hmmmm..... <pours a fresh cup of tea>
Ideas for .....
Hindrences:
Hard of hearing (voices in your head, likely minor)
Edges:
Jack of all trades
Charismatic
AB: Gifted or Psionic. Goal here is Warriors gift at Seasoned. May be available at start due to setting rule. Need to ponder.
Luck/Great Luck
Danger sense
Superpowers: Case could be made for virtually anything but these leapt out.
Ageless w/Very old. Not actually old but you can tap a great deal of experience.
Awareness
Boost/Lower trait, Any Trait, Power, self only
Deadeye.
Melee attack.
Fearless
Genius
Interface,
Mind shield/E resist Psi
Object reading; Only info known by several living people.
Scan.
Speak language
Super Attribute/Edge/Skill
Mechanically I see you taking many skills at d4/d6 and using Boost Trait to pump then a die or two to d8/d10 levels. And using the Boost/Genius rerolls and bennies as needed to succeed. You are likely the second best (blank) in the room but it won't matter which room.
I like the concept and I can see this working. Not positive on the details. You would be using gear for fighting with Deadeye and Melee attack helping with the damage. You would not be going toe to toe with heavies but with some creative thinking you would be a major threat.
What do you think?

Well if you are still thinking power armor then some techno skills would be wise as you will be repairing the suit. Also the McGyver an/or Fix-it edges would be useful and they have skill requirements.
