Haphazard Repair - impossible to use?

Rules Discussion

So if I am reading this right, when your innovation breaks due to an unstable action, you can not take any more unstable actions. Haphazard repair would fix a broken innovation, but it is unstable and unstable actions can not be used. Am I reading this wrong or is there a situation I am not aware of?

You're mixing two things up, I'm afraid. Haphazard repair is not used for removing the inability to use unstable reactions. This does NOT cause the innovation to gain the broken condition or reduce its hp to the broken threshold.

Haphazard Repair is for using the actual Repair action (to restore HP and remove a Broken condition) quickly.

To expand further, within the wider context of PF2 repairing items doesn't come up much (because there are few things that damage them) with the exception of shields...and I guess Inventor weapon innovations (I'm not very familiar with the class).

Haphazard repair simply ensures you have a useable weapon, even if you can't use your special abilities with it.

While the abilities that dire try damage weapons or armor are less common, inventors that choose the construct companion Repair their innovation all the time.

Haphazard Repair will mainly be used to Repair a Construct Innovation. One action for an automatic 10-25 HP, or more if you crit/have a crafter's eyepiece/etc, at the cost of a DC17 flat check.

Right, the construct companion! Of course that's the obvious use of it and I just completely missed it.
