Guise of Unlife...

Rules Questions

Guise of Unlife (Su): A vigilante with this talent gains an additional social identity in the form of an undead version of one of his existing social identities, such as a ghoul, vampire, or zombie. Successful Knowledge checks reveal information about the vigilante as if he were undead, and he counts as undead for the purpose of divination spells and effects. He gains no other benefit from appearing to be an undead creature, and remains vulnerable to negative energy and spells that effect the living. The vigilante must be a living creature to select this talent.

Okay I'm thinking this should be obvious how this talent works but that bolded part is oddly written.

I read this as you end up with three identities. Original social, vigilante and the undead social.

However, it seems to imply the undead one is the same as the living social one.

If so that seems pretty worthless.

If not...yay...how would the pcs race factor into it?

Thanks.

Liberty's Edge

It can be useful to infiltrate very specific groups, like the vampire society of Ustalav.
In noble circles: "I am Count Solis."
In the vampire circles of Ustalav: "I am Count Solis and in reality, I am a vampire."

So the crappy way?

I read it as a third identity as well.
You'd have: 'The Red Hawk' (vigilante)
Gerald Dean (dwarf)
and Gerald Dean the ghoul/vampire/zombie/etc. (undead with the dwarf subtype). He would look like Gerald Dean the dwarf, except for it would look appropriate for the identity; a zombie or ghoul will look like a rotting or emaciated corpse respectively. A vampire might look exactly like Gerald Dean normally looks except paler or with pointy teeth. Not sure if all options, like a skeleton or mohrg would be an acceptable choice for most GMs.

As an additional identity, I'd say it otherwise follows the rules from dual identity. I'd allow it to have a different alignment, as long as it was within one step of both identities' alignment.

Okay thanks. :)
