Unchained Eidolons and Slam attacks?

Rules Questions

The Unchained Eidolon Slam Evolution says this:

D20 wrote:
Slam (Ex): The eidolon can deliver a devastating slam attack. This attack is a primary attack. The slam deals 1d8 points of damage (2d6 if Large, 2d8 if Huge). The eidolon must have the limbs (arms) evolution to take this evolution. Alternatively, the eidolon can replace the claws from its base form with this slam attack (this still costs 1 evolution point). This evolution can be selected more than once, up to the number of the eidolon’s limbs (arms) evolutions.

And either due to stupidity, or tiredness, but more likely both I cannot seem to fathom out what the bit in bold means

Does it mean either

A) 1 Pair of Arms can make 1 Slam attack

or

B) 1 Pair of Arms can make 2 Slam Attacks?

You pay to replace both claw attacks from a single limb evolution with a single slam attack at higher damage. But there is also nothing stopping you from then paying to just split that 2-limbed slam back into 2 slams for an extra point. Obviously you should still need the number of limbs making the attack so you can't exceed by just paying 1 evolution point up to your level cap on attacks with only 2 (or even less/no limbs).

"The eidolon can deliver a devastating slam attack." 'a' is singular, therefore the evolution grants one (1) slam attack.

The part in bold has nothing to do with how many attacks you can make, only with how often you can select the evolution.

Can I select 2 Slam Evolutions for every 1 Limb (Arms) evolution or 1 Slam evolution per Limb (Arms) evolution?

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

You can take the slam evolution.

And then if you take the limbs evolution again, you can take slam a second time.

and so on and so forth.

The exception is essentially just for the avian type of eidolons (or if your subtype also would give it but no arms), where you get claws (from your bird feet) but no arms. If you're that type, your limit of slam attacks is # of times you have taken the Limbs(arms) evolution +1, otherwise its just # of times you have taken the Limbs(arms) evolution.

"up to the number of the eidolon’s limbs (arms) evolutions". Count the amount of 'limbs (arms)' evolutions you have, including those granted by the subtype: That's how often you can select the 'slam' evolution. So 1:1 ratio.

Unless you care for a specific flavor, the slam evolution is total crap and you should never take it. It had some use in the original Summoner because there RAW you could make take it with the limbs (legs) evolution, but that was more of a loophole, and unchained fixed it.

I agree but as an Inevitable Eidolon I am limited to it unfortunately

Wow, there're actually just two natural weapon granting evolutions that thing can take. *repels in horror*

Most inevitables use actual weapons, only two use slam attacks without any manufactured weapons so it is fitting. Shame that spamming out natural attacks is better than using a weapon.
