Need help with Create Undead Ritual

Rules Discussion

I did a search for this and didn't find that answer I am looking for. I don't understand why I am hung up on this but maybe someone can give me some closure.

When I perform a Create Undead Ritual it lists the target as "one dead creature"...my issue is this: Does it matter what the dead creature was before it died? Do I need to add traits or a template? Or do I just create whatever undead I want out of the Bestiaries and use those stats??? Considering of course the type of undead I am able to create i.e. skeletons, zombies, or ghouls.

Need some closure on this guy's.

Thanks a ton!

There's adjustments in Book of the Dead if you want to go that route, or you can just use a pre-made creature. It's all up to the GM what you can make, and they should be helping you out with the stats.

RAW only depends from what specific ritual your are using due the statement "There are many versions of this ritual, each specific to a particular type of undead (one ritual for all zombies, one for skeletons, one for ghouls, and so on)". So if you do a Create a Zombie ritual you will simply take a zombie from Bestiary and create it. You just need to follow requirements from "Creature Creation Rituals" table.

Some undeads families like graveknighs may allow you to do your own make your own GK changing some statistics of other creature. So in these cases make more sense that you take the dead criature as base for the new one.

And now I feel better about my Reanimation....thank you!

Reminds me of my PF1E necromancer who made colossal necrocrafts by stringing together a city's entire rodant population as the muscles.
