Knight's Pennon

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So curious how multiple Knight's Pennons on the field of play work.

So if there are two on the field of play can one player reveal an appropriate ally to give +4 to the combat check? How does the each character can only use 1 of each card type on a check work with this. By revealing the appropriate ally is that character using the displayed Knight's Pennon card? If so that means to use both Pennon you'd need two separate character's to reveal appropriate allies to activate both Pennons?

Does it matter if both Pennons are displayed by the same character (over the course of two combat encounters because he could only play one per combat encounter.) Actually does the question even matter. Knight's Pennon does not say display next to a/your character. Its just displayed. Is there an implied "by your character."

Thanks,

I would say they stack. The wording, at least of the first +1, is like Toxic Cloud or Glibness. And those don't count as activating the power, just gaining the bonus. You could maybe argue that revealing the appropriate ally counts as activating the power, but it doesn't feel right that they would work differently.

Also, it doesn't matter who displayed them. Once displayed, anyone attempting a combat check gets the bonus, not just the character that encountered a monster.

The card says "when a player encounters a monster" and is therefore legal to play at that time. Even if we assume that the reveal is "activating" and not just part of the 'display' power which gives an unconditional +1 and is already activated, if other players reveal an Ally during the 'modify the check" it is now directly affecting the check and therefore also legal.

I should note, if player A encounters a mass summon, displays an Ally for his check to get a second +1 and then get hand-wiped, the rest of the players shouldn't get the second +1 bonus IMHO. I read it as the second +1 is only granted per check, and not related to the Pennon's display duration.

Absolutely, since it says :

So you have to reveal each time a check is attempted independently, and if at some point you cannot reveal anymore, too bad.

This said, a clever group in a mass summon situation would have the character having the good card to reveal attempting its own check last.

Agree on both counts. Also its a decent amount of effort & coordination within the team to pull it off.
