Sometimes you try to build something a little different and it doesn't work out. Sometimes an option doesn't pan out like you thought it would, and sometimes a new splat book comes out with the absolutely perfect ability for your character that you can't get.

The Mnemonic editor is incredibly limited. This item only takes you back one level (the level you're on and the one before that) . More often than not, its earlier decisions that aren't working out. In starfinder a large number of really cool abilities have a pretty meh pre requisite, meaning that if you undo the thing that isn't working you're still left with it's even less functional pre requisite.

It feels very weird that an organization with access to skilled members from all over the cosmos are stuck with whatever tricks they picked up their first mission.

Proposal: Allow characters to spend their downtime and some Achivement points retraining

Ability Score Increase: 10 AcP per ability score
Archetype: 10 AcP per Feature
Class Feature: 10 AcP per Class Feature
Class Level: 15 ACP per Class Level
Feat: 10 AcP per Feat
New Language: 5 AcP per language
Racial Trait: 20 AcP per trait
Skill Rank : 5 AcP per skill
Spell Known :5 AcP per spell swapped

Swap species? 50 AcP + Any AcP cost of the race you're swapping to

not sure if this should be a thing or not, but snagging a xenodruid for the otherwise banned reincarnate isn't any weirder than anything else starfinder get into.

All retraining occurs at the same time, (just like leveling, you can lose an ability and it's pre requisite at the same time) but must result in a legal character, ie, you can't get a character through retraining that you couldn't get leveling up organically. Its for fixing something that isn't working not providing an advantage.

Not to focus too much on the specific suggestion, but yeah we need a more expansive way to change characters.

Org play is unafraid to allow a lot of those things with PFS2 so we should dare to enable players in SFS as well.

Agreed; they can fine tune the prices if they want, but it would be really helpful to fix some of my older characters

I would like to to see better retraining options as well. I like the idea of being to retrain feats and such during downtime (in lieu of earning money) but I would be as happy if they just opened up more options to retrain with AcP.

As for retraining species, there is one in-canon option (but not starfinder society legal) offered by Oracles of Oras. I keep hoping that Starfinder Society will have an Oracle of Oras appear in a high-level adventure where the team can do a favor for the tree and offer a Flux Fig as the justification for a boon that would allow that character the option of a free retrain to another society-legal species.

Hmm

PS Note -- I am in no way advocating for the greater legality of flux figs (even though I wrote that magic item.) I just think that they make a great justification for the ability to retrain a starfinder player species. I always intended that item as more of a GM tool than a player one, allowing a player who was unhappy with their original choice the opportunity to shift to something that works better for them.

Reincarnate is already in universe, if not society legal either. So it's not exactly unprecidented as something society may have to adapt to.

"Why is the 34 year old human male now a 10 year old Ysoki female?"

"Really bad car crash, our HMO was druish, and the universe has a sense of humor? "

( Our characters were using a very badly faked ID, but in starfinder it's certainly possible...)

Asteroid Farmers insurance. We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.

“Funny, she didn’t look Druish…”

The challenge is that retraining is in 2e. There is no built-in training in Starfinder.

I have no opinion on the suggestion.

There is a limited retraining option in the downtime rules.
