I don't know if "as high AC as possible" is the case, since that would preclude "using a 2H weapon" since that precludes the use of a shield (which provides even more bonus AC than heavy armor does). In my experience "a barbarian with a greataxe" or "a fighter/champion with a polearm" are characters that people play and enjoy.

What we would be comparing is a drakeheart alchemist fob with d10s and backswing vs a full plate alchemist -2 ac but fob with (d12, deadly d10) and (d10, agile, deadly d10). Seems like a fair trade. You can fit a shield on either build too.
