I have to say that although I know the world has moved on and the art is generally far better these days, I have an old fond spot in my heart for the art in original AD&D books, especially the use of cartoons and marginalia in some places.

Yeah, I like it when things feel a little messy and slapdash. It's where you get really creative ideas. It's why I cherish my copy of Dragon Compendium... wherever it is right now. XD

(This is also kind of my issue with Pathfinder 2.0's improved balance, of course. Part of me misses the mess because sometimes messes have really beautiful accidents within them.)

This reminds me of another small gripe related to art.

I wish PF2E didn't rely so much on its art to describe creatures. That's how it feels to me, at any rate. PF1E had really helpful little descriptions of a monster before getting into the meat of its statblock, and while a good deal of PF2E monsters do that as well, not all of them do, which makes it very difficult for me to imagine what that monster might look like.

By the way, I do want to say this explicitly.

The point of this thread is not to increase the amount of negativity on the forums. The point is to reduce negativity, or at least to redirect it to a more helpful direction.

That may sound kind of counter-intuitive, but to me, this is more about catharsis, about finding ways to express negativity constructively, without worrying as much about needing to "defend" our points. In my opinion, people are at their harshest and meanest when we start arguing. "I'm not a huge fan of the new APs" easily morphs into "the new APs are trash" when you're put under pressure to defend yourself.

People get more aggressive and bitter when they feel unheard, when they feel unable to express themselves. If by grousing and griping a little on this thread, a poster doesn't feel the need to start a new thread and launch a huge debate, or better, if that poster can realize that their complaint isn't really a very big deal or had holes in it from the start because they aren't put into a defensive mindset, I think that's better for everyone.

That's why I wanted to start this thread. I was tired of getting in arguments and feeling like all I was doing was making things worse or making people feel rotten or attacked.

There is too much negativity towards the game's creators on these forums right now. It's easier to feel inspired to complain than to feel inspired to compliment, because satisfaction is a less proactive emotion than anger. That said, I would encourage everyone to check out this thread, which is sort of this thread's Good Twin in my mind. Take some time to be positive. The devs and artists and other amazing creators really do deserve it.

Again, remember, assume they can see your messages. You're on a public forum they all frequent. Be measured.

My friends and I used to joke about what life would be like if we lived on Golarion.

But without the sexyness? A life of all adventure and no reward would be absolutely intolerable!

What do you mean "without the sexyness"? That Anadi Seeker on page 59 of Kindled Magic is a stone cold fox.

Removed a post judging other posters' GMing style, quotes of the removed post, and a few others related to the topic that were personally harassing. Different GMing styles are just that, different, not inherently better/worse than each other.

As this thread has taken a bit of a turn, the original poster has opened a New Thread reframing the discussion.

As such, I'm locking this thread and directing you all to the url above.
