3D Rendering of Magnimar

Shattered Star

Hello!

I've embarked upon this ridiculously crazy project of trying to visually recreate my play-through of book one of Shattered Star. One of the very silly things I did was to create a 3D model of Magnimar. There are really only two decent pictures of the city that I could fine and they are both relatively low quality, so here are two 4K shots if anyone wants to use these.

The first is a full view of the city looking out from the land towards the sea with focus on the Irespan and the other is a much closer shot of the Irespan looking through the port.

I hope someone finds a good use for these at some point :)

Holy mackerel! By chance, I was just reading City of Monuments recently — I’ll definitely be glancing at this throughout. Seriously incredible work here, The Rising Phoenix.

Wow! So, what are you using for layout and renders? Do you have an auto-populate of some sort for the regular houses?

I created most of that in Maya, but I created the landscape though World Builder. I did some touch up and color grading in Photoshop.

I didn’t use any auto-populate script, I created about 50 different homes and organized them into groups of about 50. Then I just rotated and manipulated the blocks at different angles for large portions of the city. I then added in about 75 unique buildings to stand out that have more detail.

If I get around to it, I may to create some mountains/hills for a background and do a shot coming in from the water looking inland.

Very, very impressive.

Aw shucks, thanks for all the kind words everyone :D

While it's not directly relevant to the entirety of the city, here's one more for anyone who's running Shattered Star and is looking for The Crow entrance in the Irespan piling.

Hey! I remember being there!

That work is fantastic! From someone who hasn't yet figured out rendering, I look on in awe at artists that can create scenes as you can. Any other pictures of the City of Monuments? Our party took down the previous Lord Mayor and we now own his mansion. We bought from the city after we exposed the Mayor to be part of a cult killing people and skinning them.

wow. i really hope that you have continued your work on this and four years later it's totally amazing.

:)
