Rules Questions

Hello!

While carefully reading some spells, I've suddenly found something very interesting about one of the common spells.

GLYPH OF WARDING
https://aonprd.com/SpellDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Glyph%20of%20Warding

Target or Area object touched or up to 5 sq. ft./level

5 square feet per level? So, just to be sure that I understand this correctly - you have to be 5th level to cover only 1 square (25 sq. ft) and in order to cover 4 squares you have to be 20th level?

Am I reading this spell right or there is some sort of errata to this?

My guess would be someone got a temporary case of dyslexia and put 5 square feet when then meant 5 foot square. Easy mistake to make if you aren’t paying enough attention. That’s just my opinion I don’t know if there is any faq or errata to clarify that.

It could mean you are making an entire section floor/wall be the trigger, not necessarily an actual zone in space. It would fit in with the more traditional use of putting it on a door, which is essentially a 2d surface when you are expecting/want the door to remain closed.

Glyphs of Warding are meant for 5ft-wide rope bridges, doors, chests, drawers, etc, or even setting a "poor man's magical trap" in the center of a 25ft wide hallway and then hope they step on it, but not warding off the entire 25ft-wide walking path/hallway with a single casting. The 5sqft/lvl is accurate. You don't get Glyph of Warding til 3rd level spells anyway, and being able to ward 1 full 5ft square starting off at level 5, and then 2 full 5ft squares at level 10, is plenty good.

If you want to ward off 25ft-wide walking paths, take the Craft Wondrous Item feat and then you can make your own Magic Traps (Scroll to "Lists of Traps" at the bottom of the page that have Proximity triggers.
