Hi people,
I don't know if this has been answered yet, but I couldn't find any info related to it.
So my question is what it was asked at the topic title:
What happens if you end a combat, and you have used 9 of the 20 charges of the weapon?
1- Could I take one of my batteries from the backpack with 20 charges and take 11 of those charges to fill my weapon battery?
2- Should I have to wait until the battery is over to reload? So I just change one battery for the other one.
Maybe is a silly question, but I swear i tried to look for the answer and i couldn't find a clue.
Thanks a lot in advance!
(Excuse my English, I'm not a native speaker)

1) No. There is a spell that does that though called Transfer charge but since that needs the same kind of battery (2 20 charge batteries) It wouldn't make any sense to use a full battery to charge a half used one rather than swapping them out. You would instead use it to use the 10/20 charge battery to fill up a 10/20 charge battery so you have a full battery at the start of combat.
2- Should I have to wait until the battery is over to reload? So I just change one battery for the other one.
Unless you are really, really, short on funds you should have 4 batteries that your gun takes. After every combat swap it out to a fresh one. I very rarely see people reloading in combat.

also note that humanoid foes tend to have weapons with batteries as well as spare batteries that... well they won't have much use for when the party is done with them.
But BNW, it is really difficult and time consuming to track down the dead enemy's next of kin in order to give them the spare batteries. Don't you think that's better left to the lawyers?

the looting the battery of your enemies has ended up with my players having a small stock pile of batteries on ship, none are Lawfully aligned so social responsibilities be damned.
There are a couple weapons which would require a reload in combat, like the Serpent laser rifle, which is one of the worst weapons in my opinion. 2 shots per battery.
You can reload your weapon whenever, you just may need to keep check of your charge levels.

The serpent laser is a joke weapon. It was made by the Apsis consortium to hopefully increase the demand for batteries.

In world they would make a lot of sense for people who only plan on shooting to scare off a burglar or shoot a space deer.
As a niche market some of them are good for spellcasters, being a lower item level and or cheaper. Only needing two shots before reloading is no problem for someone who only shoots twice a combat anyway (mixing in the occasional haste spell or magic missile), and only moderately inconvenient for someone without the +hit to make full attacking a viable option.

For what it's worth, while many weapons don't need reloading in your average 1-3 round combat, there are no guns in this game that wouldn't need reloading by the end of the longest continuous combat encounter I've had happen, if you were firing every round. And thats before you bring Boost and Overcharge into it. So reloading in combat may not happen most days, but it does remain a valid question for things that aren't outliers like the serpent rifle.

This reminds me of how my players keep a crate on their ship of all the random low level weapons and armor they've salvaged from enemies. Its too weak to be worth using, and too cheap to be worth selling, so just throw it in storage. Maybe someday you'll need to do something like pull a Seven Samurai and arm a whole village/space station/whatever.
( No, I don't *actually* keep track of every tier 1 laser pistol or light armor they throw in it; if it ever matters it will matter on a GM judgement call level. )
