Methods for free or discount grenades?

Howdy!

So. I'm curious folks. (As I was pondering buildding a precog from the playtest).

What methods are there in game concerning grenades?
I know there is a soldier type that can get 1 per rest, that scales in someway to their level.
I believe technomancer has 3 hacks; though only shadow and fabricate explosive I think can give you not- cost grenades (spell slot cost and bad action economy).

Are there any other abilities?

Honestly a really fun precog concept was pulling items from other timelines of their own; similiar to that choice where they can retcon and have bought an item. Just grenades are too expensive.


Bombarding fusion is my favorite way.

Level 5 fusion, you load a grenade into it and you can throw it for free basically once per day.


Oh, that is a good one. Only once a day but useful for sure. Aesthetically pleasing in concept too. Can grow (sort of ) as you level up and drop more grenades. Thats good.

I really do wish I could more readily use some things like the mine layer or Cluster launchers.
Though I also wish grenade launchers were special not heavy weapons.

You can also use the pricing for this kind of fusion to represent other things than a literal grenade launcher. Like a crate of grenades back in the ship, from which the PC arms themselves with one per day. Multiply the pricing appropriately if they want to carry X grenades in their bandolier.


The whole issue is that grenades have fairly high damage at their level. For example a level 10 grenade does 6d6 (21 average damage) in a 15ft radius, save for half. If you can catch 3+ creatures in the blast it's usually a better action than shooting your weapon. However, to ensure that your just not constantly chucking grenades they had to balance it, and did so by making them expensive.

Most methods of getting free grenades only function once per day typically. Even the bombard option is basically once per 10 minutes (which is effectively once per combat).


I have house rules that the price of grenades is for a box of 6.

I also allow full weapon specialization for grenades.

Makes them somewhat useful.

My players never buy grenades. They loot them.


Grenades as loot are great. Though, I tend to find they're below character level and so aren't as impactful in terms of how much damage they can deal, but still nice when you have a clump of enemies.
